6th February 2018 at 6:25 pm #14956See your point, but I’ll try and rephrase it a bit… it’s not just about going after players, it’s the type of players you go after. If you go after “Superstar” players, you’re going to pay superstar wages, and have to deal with superstar ego’s…
Granted, your mob have won a few pots, but how long can you keep repeating this cycle?
And I wouldn’t say this is strained chummy, if anything it’s an actual debate!

6th February 2018 at 8:13 pm #14960Chucky, is that Pedigree Chummy?
Putting it into perspective Chelsea are having a poor season and are still point ahead of Spurs.?

7th February 2018 at 8:41 am #14964That’s the thing about perspectives, everybody has one.
I could very easily suggest that having finished 3rd then 2nd in the last two years, being down in 5th would suggest my Spuds are also having a poor season, so Chelsea’s decade worth of double the salary spend and triple transfer fund to end up only 1 point in front of the Spuds is not exactly a stellar performance!
But I won’t…. π

7th February 2018 at 2:14 pm #14976We’ve gone well of beam Pagan.
Chucky’s point was re the current Chelsea players was βitβs not as though many of them didnβt jump ship quick enough to sign on to HMS Chelseaβ¦ ”
As I said swap HMS Chelsea for HMS Spurs and the same will apply to all the Spurs players bar Harry Kane and he may eventually go too.
Players have a short career and if a bigger club comes in for them ie Hazard at Lille and offers them better opportunities to as Chelsea did for Hazard to A) be more successful and B) earn more money they will likely move on whether that club is Chelsea, Spurs or Shrewsbury.
It’s the way the game is and to a certain extent always has been. Dalglish from Celtic to Liverpool for instance and Coutinho from Inter to Liverpool to Barca.

7th February 2018 at 2:58 pm #14978Goose…. Dirty Sanchez’s weekly dosh of 600k a week was worked out from the weekly salary, combined with his signing on fee’s and supposed image rights… all added up over 4,5 years and then divided by 234 weeks… it came to something like 576,000 actually… but it’s all rumors and nonsense… and cash!
Golide… I rephrased that, what I was implying (badly) is that if a club is offering really double stupid salaries, then players are more likely to move there as it’s all about the cash, rather than the club.
I never buy for one minute when a player suddenly becomes a fan when he signs for a club (any player or any club). You’re 100% right about players moving onto bigger clubs, that’s how the game works, but when you’re talking about salaries that are quite incomprehensible to us mortals, I reckon the mind works differently to a degree. A pint of milk is the same whether you earn 20k a year or 600k a week.

7th February 2018 at 3:18 pm #14979Chucky, Bale from Southampton to Spurs to Real. Salary or ambition? Bale obviously earned a lot more from both moves and whilst I’m sure it was important ambition was probably his greatest motivation.

7th February 2018 at 4:52 pm #14987Couple of quick observations on Spurs and Chelsea’s squads and their worth. Firstly they might only be a point above Spurs at the moment but Chelsea won the PL last season. And in the last 10 years or so I don’t think any team has won as much as them. They have won everything. It’s probably fair to say that given a choice 99% of Spurs fans would jump at the chance of winning half that ammount of trophies regardless of the cost of the players transfers etc, ie when it’s your team that is benefiting you don’t give a rat’s arse where the money is from! Secondly regardless of what Conte signed up to there is a common denominator with the any manager falling out with Chelsea and that is the owner. He has little patience and Its either his way or the highway hence the high turnover of managers. It might not sit well with everybody but its his club and in any dispute there is only going to be one winner. However you cannot dispute that the system does not work. Jim
