Nine @ 8:06, remember I think around last week on the back of your closing sentence how in one of threads we talked about Jose’s best signings.
I don’t know if these were by him mate, but just wanted to say as a fan, really enjoyed Claudio Pizzaro, Yuri Zirchov and Juliano Belletti. Even if they weren’t around for that long, they ignited the team and the league – some good times back then mate.
Cheers ๐

3rd February 2019 at 8:53 pm #32785Good win for city. Aguero is a brilliant player and one of the best strikers the pl had seen
I think Liverpool will draw tomorrow so it be down to 3 points and city with a better goal difference will be top after the utd game

3rd February 2019 at 9:54 pm #32786Dropped points in Total:
Defeat: Manchester City at The Ethiad
Drawn: Arsenal, Manchester City (Home) Chelsea, and Leicester City (Home)
In fairness to us, we’ve been solid at the back to concede just 14 goals.
Not anything deemed as easy by a long chalk, but I feel we have it in us to get though the finishing line.
Looking forward to it though, that is for sure ๐
Come On The Redmen!!!!!

3rd February 2019 at 10:39 pm #32787It took Liverpool 19 premier league games to concede just 7 goals, but just 5 more premier league games to concede 7 more goals again. Up to game 19, Liverpool were matching Chelseaโs record season of 04/05 conceding just 15 goals in an entire season. I think thatโs now gone. And remember Liverpoolโs main reason for their results this season is down to that defence – not the attack.
Liverpool need to sort this blip out and quickly.

3rd February 2019 at 11:03 pm #32788Mikus,
like yourself I’ve placed forward facts/stats in good faith ahead of our game.
That’s essentially all. I don’t know if they have any correlation at all to qualify comparison to those years you’ve stated.
To a degree, some form of credence due there was a repetition in outcomes delivering the same/similar pattern of results from circumstances. E.g. a lot was made big some years back in Liverpool not finding WIDTH. I feel for quite some time, we’ve addressed that.
The Defence for a number of years has been critical; Check out the Photo of our winning team circa 1990. That should illustrate and outline on that particular example representing defence and defensive midfield: Hansen, Hussain, Gillespie, Nicol, Whelan, Venison, Burrows, Staunton, Molby, McMahon…..
‘A’ Formula to formulate for a number of years has been a struggle for us from Souness being in charge to build a ‘Hardman Team’ failing miserably to softie softies and lads just doing what they want, under Roy Evans.
Gerard Houllier in installing Stephen Henchoz and Sami Hyppia reinstalled that solidarity.
The rest has been a pattern of history as you know. We reach up to a point in the expectation of the next level and we just collapse. That is us.
I do believe though, those efforts were never Tracing Paper, just an experience that needed just a nudge or two to get over the Finishing Line.

3rd February 2019 at 11:12 pm #32789Thing is Nil, it’s not just conceding less goals that has helped us this season. It’s the strength of that defence that has got us over the line in so many games because our attack has been compromised without Coutinho/Ox and Keita has yet to make an impact. If our current trend continues, it will be a matter of when we fall behind not if. We either address it or we start banging in more goals. Preferably, we do both.

3rd February 2019 at 11:39 pm #32790Mikus, agreed on all of that mate.
We were and have been criticised in the past in our approach and philosophy of just ‘gung-ho’ and no ‘Plan B’.
This season round, we’ve shown maturity and a measure in our overall outcome of a game.
So, for those (maybe me being one of them to an extent) wondering why we not thrashed a team 6-0 and ‘only’ 1-0? Well what was that game like?
Coutinho you are right, we haven’t replaced and it’s affected us. This brings in the thought and point of just a an orthodox Central Midfield in Oxlaid that you have to say has been a big void for us. It’s been in evidence at times scrimping and saving, but above all, HUGE CREDIT TO JURGEN KLOPP. I remain in every belief, faith and optimism.
Cheers

4th February 2019 at 12:14 am #32791AnonymousIt’s all about losing Gomez. The defence wasn’t exactly terrible with Lovren as a replacement but it wasn’t anywhere near as good and has even dropped way off with him also being injured but the key has always been Van Dijk + Gomez. They are a world class CB pair. Our real issue here is Gomez isn’t healing.
Klopp had this to say about him (talking about if surgery is on the cards) : “We will see.It is possible, probably. It is not exactly going how we want. He needs more time. We will see exactly how we do it.”
As things stand, Gomez has no set return date and this is a disaster for us. It could cost us the title.

4th February 2019 at 12:22 am #32793Mak, you’re right from a Central Defence Pairing.
Gomez is genuinely a great reader of events and is hugely missed. Upsetting that he had a few more weeks in healing. Just hope he can return on the circuit. The other guys all in all need to rally and step it up.
We cannot allow ourselves to capitulate.

4th February 2019 at 7:47 am #32795Mikus, totally agree. In the last two games we look terrible at the back.
I hope Wednesday was down to vvd being sick.
Milner at right full is a worry againest Anderson tonight.
Iโm not confident about tonight. I think city will be top come Wednesday night after they play everton.

4th February 2019 at 8:34 am #32797Cant believe the pessimism for Liverpool. They will beat WHU tonight and remain 5 points clear. The pattern is there. Why wouldnt you win. They are average at best. Mind you we lost at Newcastle and Leicester when we should have won easily…..it happens. For us it will be just too many games. This week..Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea in 7 days. This is Liverpools advantage.

4th February 2019 at 8:34 am #32798Iโve said since day dot c$ty will win it. When we went ahead by 9 or whatever it was before Christmas I still said c$ty would win it. My reason was they have far too much depth & we canโt compete over a full season. I got put on the negative & told I donโt enjoy watching us play just because when a lot on here weโre going way over the top predicting titles etc I still said c$ty would win it.
Now most are saying the same thing because we are heading into the time of year when depth matters. A couple of important players injured & off form & we start playing badly.
So c$ty should win it, theyโve spent way more than anyone else & teams just canโt compete. Iโm not saying it to be negative itโs just how it is.
People say Germany, Spain & Italy are predictable, the EPL is no different._____________________________

4th February 2019 at 8:43 am #32799Adlab your 2nd team is as good as most 1st teams mate, Iโm sure youโll cope with the cups. No one else has the depth you do.

4th February 2019 at 8:45 am #32803With that Marko chap playing, Spam-boys might have had a chance but without him, not much. Be interesting to see if the Big Unit can last 90 minutes… that will at least give Dick Van Dyke something to think about for 90 minutes..

4th February 2019 at 8:45 am #32804Regardless of who goes on to win the league, West Ham are a poor side who Liverpool will surely put away with relative ease tonight. I just can’t see them dropping points tonight. Still think City will win it in the end, though

4th February 2019 at 1:37 pm #32808Really can’t see West Ham being able to stop Liverpool tonight.
The only thing that will stop Liverpool winning this game is nerves and not defending properly and no Anoutovich won’t help West Ham.
West Ham are a funny team though and sometimes they can pull a really good performance out so you can never completely write them off but I really can only see a comfortable Liverpool victory although any sort of victory will do right now for Liverpool.
What Liverpool mustn’t do is give City more hope that they can catch them though.

4th February 2019 at 1:46 pm #32810I wouldn’t say Liverpool are in any kind of crisis yet, but the recent defensive issues are obviously highly significant and will impact on their main strategy this season. A change of tack may be needed and we may need to see more of the attacking verve/pressing we saw last season to counteract this problem. Either that or Fabinho moves into defence…though it’s to be seen how well he’d cope over a good run of games in such a position. In an ideal world Keita will take off.
