Disappointed at the rumours that Ole is set to be named permanent manager. I just see nothing to be gained from making that call now. I’d love it to work out for him. I really would. But, there’s still so much for him to do to prove this isn’t just an extended new manager bounce, which was inevitable following the low point we were at when Jose went.
Fair enough if he finishes the season in a way that leaves the board with no choice to appoint him, but we could still finish with absolutely nothing and no CL football to go into next season with. Making Ole boss could soon prove to be a very clumsy decision. In fact I’d go as far as to say, if it is indeed announced soon, I expect us to enter a poor spell. I have my doubts as to whether Ole is the man to pull us through such a spell.

3rd February 2019 at 6:51 pm #32763Men against boys – some players need to be demoted to the bench! Some just on a journey on that pitch – feel for Unai Emery – good guy.

3rd February 2019 at 6:55 pm #32764Just wanted to give some credit to Pogba – the guy is knuckling down and that ball to Rashford was textbook. Every striker’s dream to receive that type of service.

3rd February 2019 at 7:02 pm #32766And huge credit to the Premier League is Sergio Aguero. Just a Fabulous servant for Man City. He still deliver at TOP LEVEL considering the number of years he’s been at the club. A real testament.

3rd February 2019 at 7:07 pm #32767Whoever eventually finishes in 4th place I will be amazed if it’s Arsenal they’re great going forwards but they just can’t defend.
Agree with the Ed why rush into a decision on Ole now I can understand United not wanting to pay circa £50m for Pochettino even though he’s probably the best choice for United and they can afford it but there’s no need to rush into a decision now.
I think Ole’s done a fantastic job galvanising the team post Mourinho and the results prove that but when the ship hits stormy waters as it will at some stage because it happens to every Club I’m not sure he will be the right man to steer the Club through them.

3rd February 2019 at 7:10 pm #32768Agree Nil 219 goals for City what a signing Aguero has been and how do City replace him?

3rd February 2019 at 7:14 pm #32769Nine. So right. How do you replace him? Hard to think of anybody. Dybala may be? Would he come? Would we pay?
Rashford. Only joking!
Neymar…ha ha!
Its not easy._____________________________

3rd February 2019 at 7:18 pm #32770Agree, Aguero has been a brilliant player for City and one of the best ever in the PL. Very difficult to replace. Dybala is a good shout. I thought it felt like Guardiola didn’t really fancy Aguero early on but he’s made it impossible to even consider replacing him just yet and Jesus isn’t up to the job IMO

3rd February 2019 at 7:23 pm #32771On the point of Rashford, he’s really come of age recently. To be fair to him, he was performing really well for Mourinho too this season but he’s playing with less fear under Ole. Aguero and Kane aside, there aren’t many better strikers around on current form and I have a feeling he may just push Lukaku towards a Utd exit. He’s still only 21 which is easy to forget.

3rd February 2019 at 7:48 pm #32772Ed, Rashford is a number 9 credit Ole for playing him there but he makes Lukaku redundant really now.
Be interesting to see what happens with him but Rashford can go on to be an absolutely outstanding United player if he’s played through the middle.
Great news for England too but it gives Southgate a headache.

3rd February 2019 at 7:51 pm #32773Ed, in fairness, quite a number of players seem more relaxed and the key being having the freedom to express themselves. Seem a more friendlier bunch of players too and respectful. Matic is naughty though!
A lot of credit though seemingly should be given to Mike Phelan who is providing a wealth of experience and guidance.
I don’t really know the background of what happened with Cardiff, but so far, this has been a happy homecoming for Ole a great fit in a lot being restored from what was lost since 2013.
Cheers
P.S. Slight bias in him being a Liverpool fan ha 😛

3rd February 2019 at 7:59 pm #32775Big difference Nil managing Cardiff and the squad Ole had to work with there and the squad he’s working with now.
Plus he’s ex United and knows his way around the place and as you rightly say you can’t underestimate the job Phelan is doing there either.
Apart from the fact that the job was too big for him that was one of Moyes biggest errors sacking Phelan and some of the other United backroom staff.
United’s problem now is that whoever they appoint they can’t really afford another short/ medium term mistake their getting through Managers faster than Chelsea now.?

3rd February 2019 at 8:00 pm #32777Nine/Adlab,
you notice though Gents, we’re citing One Striker out of a team than a pair and in the now modern culture of the Prem, I don’t see a lot of Teams employing 2 out and out Strikers.
Ours referred to as the ‘Front 3’ is an idea stolen from Barcelona ha!
Our 2013/14 team employed a 4-4-2 of Suarez and Sturridge.
Jesse Lingard is probably the closest to be pairing up with Rashford if Lakaku’s not on the pitch, though I would make the point in forging the 2 together as part of a 4-4-2 if I was Ole Solksjaer.
Something for a number of years Fergie was accustomed to.
Cheers

3rd February 2019 at 8:06 pm #32778Liverpool’s front three are the best there is in the PL imo Nil and very close to the best in Europe too. But that’s just me.
Hazard Higuain and Pulasic sounds quite tasty though if Real don’t spoil it.?

3rd February 2019 at 8:06 pm #32779Nine, you’re right mate.
Personally, if I was a United fan, I wouldn’t underestimate at all the job Phelan is doing and to me is essential to the Dynamics. Ferguson has a new role reinstalled casually (it seems in reality), but he’s obviously worked with Phelan before and knows him for a number of years as Phelan was once a player.
The Reservation in bringing somebody else in like Poch or Zidane is that they’re likely to bring their own Backroom Team.
It can make a big difference overall to the whole philosophy, everyday routine and communication.
Personally, I would just leave the set up like it is and give Ole the full reigns in the Summer.
Cheers

3rd February 2019 at 8:08 pm #32780City play a “front three”
Sane, Aguero and Sterling
Sterling, Jesus Mahrez
Sane, Aguero, Bernardoand variations on that. This is the current way which Jose was unable to do.

3rd February 2019 at 8:10 pm #32781AnonymousIt wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see the Utd board appoint Ole now. The lads in charge have demonstrated time and time again that they just have no idea what they are doing. Ole may end up being the man for the job and Utd could have titles ahead with him in charge but it would be more down to luck and money than the proper choice by Utds owners.
As ye say, there’s absolutely NOTHING to be gained by appointing him now. It won’t improve their chances from here on. They are already getting results but it seems that they just want to deny themselves the option of making the same choice later on when they have a lot more information.
I mean, maybe the rumours are only that.

Utd need to lose a couple to see the reality…..odd as that sounds_____________________________
