Brian, agree with your point on Gomez.
The reason why a lot of emphasis has been placed on him is because he has excelled for us and has proved he is assured in his position. He is reliable. A real void for us since his injury in the defensive unit and Goalie conceding more goals.
Plus, Liverpool just lack over depth in their squad of good replacement defenders. Lovren’s generally ok, but he has a howler in him, and that won’t change even with his experience.
I don’t know if Klopp is keen in investing in maturity and I do feel in this day and age, a 27/29 year old player is by no means over the hill, but somebody who at the very least is ready-made and knows his trade.
Comparing this to Man City:
LaPorte 24, young, but not incredibly young. Danilo, 27, Kyle Walker 28 and Delph 29 offer a little more experience at the back.
I know certain key areas have been addressing in a solid Centre Half and a GK in Van Dijk and Allison, but there needs to be reinforcements this summer to avoid getting into a situation as we have done with a depleted defence.

7th February 2019 at 10:25 pm #33108Mak,
the point I was trying to make is that it doesn’t bring any positives to adopt a defeatist attitude, especially when this becomes habitual.
Everyone has their downs. But usually, you reach a point where you can dust yourself down and feel a sense of optimism and hope. Doesn’t our club have a slogan, Dare To Dream?
And as far as luxury of wealth and City go, FFP (so it seems) are starting to clamp down. I bet Pep and Co have been ordered to reign it in. Yes, wealth opens a door full of choice, but it’s not the be all and end all.
You look on the pitch though and that game at Newcastle: Rafa’s Boss would rather invest in buying out Debenhams than to put does in the Transfer kitty, Yet the Rabbit was pulled out of a hat and who would have though after being 1-0 up that Magpies would turn it around?
The wealth does not suggest a foregone conclusion and a David V Goliath. City were 3rd not long ago underneath a team who has Daniel Levy as their Boss (another Stingy git!).
Yet has it stopped Tottenham trying to aspire? No. And that this is all about. Sure we have had numerous broken hearts, but I forever want my team to keep trying and trying and as long as they give it their all, I’m proud of them.
Apart from them dark times around 93, 99, and 2010, I’ve never been completely deflated in hope of my club achieving Success and Silverware.

7th February 2019 at 10:29 pm #33110People say it how they see it nothing wrong with that and whatever is said on the forums don’t make an iota of difference to the players because they don’t see it.
If you really want to see negative follow Wise Fan on the Chelsea site.?

7th February 2019 at 10:38 pm #33111Threeps I just don’t think we have the squad to go the distance mate, simple as that. I said recently I think our best chance of winning anything is a cup but we only have the very difficult C/L left in that regard so maybe next season. Hope your right mate.

7th February 2019 at 10:42 pm #33112Nine, as silly as this will sound mate, I’m too scared to go to that place you’re alluding to. Simply because of Warrington Red and the stuff he writes about Liverpool.

7th February 2019 at 10:44 pm #33113Nil no grudges from me it’s just the way it is mate, money rules sport these day’s & unless you’ve got a shed load you wont be successful.
Nine it’s just showing c$ty aren’t going as bad recently in the EPL as some are making out. 1 bad game doesn’t mean they are going bad & performances haven’t been too bad. Liverpool aren’t going too bad results wise either but performances have been pretty ordinary for a while now & we’ve had our share of luck in a couple of games. Yes you need luck but when performances are getting progressively worse & your lack of depth is being exposed dropped points is never far away, as we are finding out now.
I think most predicted c$ty would win the EPL due to their quality in depth so I’m just stating the obvious there, it’s just when people say things like if Liverpool win a certain game the title race was over, despite only just being half way through the competition. I fully expect c$ty to have it all but wrapped up with 4 or 5 games to go. I hope I’m wrong but that’s how I see it going.
Chucks I just think you lot are like us & a bit short in quality back up players. Good 1st team but but thin after that._____________________________

7th February 2019 at 10:44 pm #33114Oz, I think you’re right the relevant strength of the squads will play a part and there’s no doubt City’s is stronger. Perhaps also Klopp let one or two go that he would have been better hanging on to.

7th February 2019 at 10:54 pm #33115Oz, last season City lost 2 games all season this season they’ve just lost 3 games in circa 6 weeks. I agree with much of what you say in your post above but psychology does play it’s part and Liverpool let City off the hook twice in the last few weeks.
I honestly don’t think it’s all over for Liverpool but the momentum is currently with City imo despite the game in hand. Still very difficult to say who might win it but I agree City are rightly favourite now and strength of squads will play a big part and City have the edge there.

7th February 2019 at 10:57 pm #33117Nine, I’m not too clued up on the clubs surrounding the Prem, but I do believe clubs in other divisions where there are designated Forums and Community Message Boards, people do have their ‘voices heard’ and are taken notice of.
You are right to a certain degree as far as influence on the Pitch goes, but we live in a world more than ever where so much is picked up, talked about and accentuated.
Some light-hearted poking fun and banter is there, but there as you know is also sniping. I don’t think certain mediums like Twitter help and in my view players should be refrained in setting up accounts. Otherwise, we have example like Kyle Walker the other day in which that tweet was uncalled for.
Managers in the best possible way deflect this attention (when questioned by the media) to keep a clear head, but all in all mate, the mind games if anything can be toxic.

8th February 2019 at 2:42 am #33119AnonymousNil, I’m not sure what your solution to this would be though. This has always been a bit of a pet peeve of yours but people are going to communicate how they feel about where the club is at right now. You might not agree with them and this is a forum where you can try to change their mind but ultimately that’s where it ends. You might not like that people aren’t super positive right after losing points but you’ve got to accept it.
I remember a few seasons ago, I got very caught up in us challenging and ok a lot of the time I was tongue in cheek, saying things like “it’s in the bag lads!!”.. but really, I was also genuinely super hyped at the same time. When I was being genuinely positive all the time I had some of the lads getting on my back over it. It definitely killed the buzz for me a little and it’s not good to have people trying to police forums and the content just because they don’t agree with your perspective, especially where diversity of opinion creates discussion that is worth reading.
I definitely got on Sean and Oz’s backs about what I perceived as pessimism, while different people were telling me to shut up. I wish I had a better memory cause I know we had some worthwhile and even some heated discussion but ultimately, they were right. That was the season where we ran out of juice in January or February.
I think I learned a lesson that season, amongst others.
I could have written the above better. I’m a wee bit tired, apologies. Oh and in case it’s not clear, Nil, I’m not giving out of having a go. The lack of inflection that we get with text can be nasty sometimes.

8th February 2019 at 5:48 am #33120Oz, of course City have the better depth, they have the better resources (fairly or not is a debate for another time and place!) and have used it very wisely. Between 2010 and 2012 Klopp’s Dortmund team had a similar situation of being against a Bayern team that could just buy all their rivals top players, and yet he still beat them. His quote about the bazooka and Robin Hood is one of my all time favorites of his (along with the “fits our team like an arse in a bucket”!!)
Football is going, or maybe already has gone, the way that money is the only way to success. But sometimes there’s a chance when the odds can be upset. Klopp said early on in his LFC career that he needed to turn doubters into believers. If we don’t believe, what’s the point of watching?
I’m not saying LFC will win, I have no idea. I’m certainly not one of those that will sing “we’re going to win the league” a few games before. I hope we will continue to fight however and be in the mix till the end. I believe we can.

8th February 2019 at 7:10 am #33121Ignoring the “will they/won’t they” debate (although highly entertaining!), I think the other issue that’s been touched upon here in recent about bantz is a bit off the mark.
I think Ricky Gervias said it best. “Just because somebody is offended by something it doesn’t mean its wrong.”
Chances are anybody can say anything, and somebody somewhere will be offended by it in one form or another.
I didn’t think the Walker tweet was offensive to be honest, just a bit of a laugh, a bit of banter, and quite frankly don’t understand how it be considered “offensive”. Unlikable to some perhaps, the perceived “victims” of a joke, but offensive? Not in a million years.

8th February 2019 at 8:48 am #33124Gomez is a loss true but we have played most of the season without KDB, Mendy and Kompany. Which is the bigger loss?
All teams get injuries. It happens so you have to find a way.._____________________________

8th February 2019 at 9:15 am #33125The reason Liverpool are competitive this season is because of the money they invested in the transfer market starting with Van Dijk.
Klopp originally said he wouldn’t spend big and he wanted to do it differently but then found the only way to elevate his team to a different level was to invest in the transfer market to strengthen in the areas he knew needed strengthening with the record breaking transfers on Van Dijk and Alisson.
That’s not a criticism they are both great signings and will be a big reason Liverpool win the title if that’s what they eventually do albeit the Coutinho money helped fund some of that activity meanwhile City who have admittedly spent silly money just like Chelsea did before them have now reigned in their spending presumably because of FFP spending just £6.7m net this season.

8th February 2019 at 9:37 am #33134Imagine though if that tweet had come from a Liverpool player, then what the reaction would have been? Personally, thought he was a bit of an arse tweeting that considering the picture of Harry Maguire and us drawing to Leicester, but maybe that’s just me being a tad precious.
Also, if it’s meant to be just a bit of fun, stuff like that anyway just causes a stir.
Personally, I don’t think it was in the spirit it was intended, but more of a green-eyed monster. Anyway, Klopp handled it well in the Press Conference when asked about it.

8th February 2019 at 10:18 am #33129Had trouble logging on so just Oz not Oz Yob.
Threeps to be honest mate last season was some of the happiest I’ve been watching Liverpool, absolutely loved it, that’s why I watch football it was entertainment plus & I got a couple of Rugby League mates watching us as well due to the way we played. I did often say if only we could sort our D we’d be some team. I get why we played a bit more reserved & tried to stop leaking goals but going off what Klopp said early in the season I thought would introduce the pressing all action style throughout the season again. We are tighter but nowhere near as effective going forward & now our depth is being exposed we are progressively getting worse. I hope your right mate but I can see us falling well off the pace over the next 5 or 6 games with c$ty’s depth drivingcthem off into the distance. I will still watch games but admit I’m not enjoying them anywhere near like I wa last last season._____________________________

8th February 2019 at 10:18 am #33130Adlab you can’t be serious mate, if you want to compare who’s a bigger loss injury wise let’s compare who replaces the injured players. You’ll find c$ty really haven’t got it too bad. We get a couple of injuries we are screwed, c$ty can cope just a little bit better me thinks.
