48:05… Dive of the season… I wonder what the rules say if City did score from that passage of play, could it get called back for the blatant cheat (I’m guessing it’s called “stimulation” or “unsportsmanship conduct”).

2nd February 2020 at 6:49 pm #67374What I was thinking whilst we waited for the City penalty to be awarded was if City score following the penalty claim would they still get the penalty too. Bound to happen one day.

2nd February 2020 at 7:04 pm #67381Well I told you all at HT (just got the score wrong).
Defence was bobbins – Otamendi for their second goal, wtf was he doing pushing out and leaving Sonny Jim all alone. Anyway, he’ll be off in the summer and although I thought Walker was decent today, so will he. Then we can get Fernandinho in his best position, which in itself strengthens the defence.
Going forward – that’s around 35 attempts on goal in the last two games with FA to show in the ‘goals for’ column. Pep needs to drop Sterling, end of – he needs a kick up the jacksie.
As for Spurs, defended well, in the main, but not sure how long their (already) long-suffering fans will put up with Jose’s turgid understanding of football._____________________________

2nd February 2020 at 7:05 pm #67382AnonymousVery good Threeps!
Ya Mav, that’s it man. Liverpool would have to lose 8 games?… and that is definitely not going to happen.
City’s problem is maybe one of mentality. They are likely dejected after falling so far behind and seem to be forcing it or something. Some of their play was really excellent but it’s that final ball that is rushed, or a player has run in too far, or the likes.
I wouldn’t write City off in the CL, it’ll be their main focus now and for quite some time now. The bookies for some odd reason have had City as favourites for the CL all season. I think this is madness but at the same time, I won’t rule them out as potential winners, even after today… Favourites though, not in my opinion.
Back to today though, did Spurs deserve it? I think so. It’s hard to credit a team for kinda desperately hanging on but when they got their chances, they took them. I also think Sterling should maybe have been off for the stamp (I will take another look at it later TBH). If not that then definitely for the dive. He’s trying to con the ref into giving him a penalty.
Spurs are now within range of potentially getting themselves a place in the CL next season. of course there is always the other avenue but if I were them, I’d try and do it the old fashioned way π
That won’t be easy either.I don’t agree with some of you that the PL is a rubbish league. I think it’s more competitive than ever, in terms of the classic mid-table, or previously mid-table teams.
Wolves, Leicester, Sheffield Utd, Southampton.
If you have a match against these lads, you don’t assume you’ll be going home with 3 points but that used to be the case. Add this with the fact that the classic Big 6 sides are mostly going through various early phases of development or in City’s case, a bit of a dip after some absolutely insane seasons and you can understand why there is such a big gap. Of course then, it’s Liverpool’s turn to be the freaks of nature.
It’s definitely not a rubbish league. I still think it’s the best in the world. If you put Spurs, Everton and Arsenal into La Liga, they wouldn’t be in 8th, 9th and 10th mid season. No chance. They’d be a few places higher (calm down, I;’m not suggesting that Everton could win La Liga) π

2nd February 2020 at 7:49 pm #67389AnonymousMav, we’ll have to see man. After today City look very beatable but they’ll up their game like crazy when it comes to our match. They will want blood and if our unbeaten run is still going then, they’ll wanna take it… even if their focus has shifted to the CL.
Liverpool are capable of beating anyone but to go from here until the end of the season in a winning run would be an absolutely INSANE achievement. I say no chance I’m afraid. We are already showing some complacency, or were in the 1st half versus Southampton and they nearly punished us. It’ll rear it’s head again and of course, we’ll have CL matches messing with our form too. We’ll see how we go game by game.
gjblues, not a wink man π

2nd February 2020 at 10:09 pm #67395AnonymousGJ. Joseβs football has taken us from 14th to 5th and within a couple of wins of champions league football. Since he took over weβve probably averaged a game every 3 days so he hasnβt had a chance to actually implement any changes, but at the same time has drastically improved things. Heβs yet to have a fully fit squad as well. I dont think there are many spurs fans who have an issue whatsoever with Jose right now. If we win trophies I donβt care how we play.

3rd February 2020 at 7:07 am #67397AnonymousOkay so things went against them but I still believe the City defence has been their achilles heal for years now despite their successes last season and it’s been exploited.

3rd February 2020 at 7:57 am #67398With Paxo on this one, we’ve been Arsenaling around for decades without any shiny things to show for it (apart from the spankingly nice spaceship we get to play in!), so a year or two of supposed ugly football isn’t going to do us any harm, especially if we get some pots out of it. Anyway, there aren’t many teams that go toe-to-toe with City, so I’ve no problem with yesterday’s set-up. There may have been a huge slice of luck, but we still got the three points. I’d take that as I’m sure most of you all would have too!

3rd February 2020 at 8:09 am #67399Chucky, I think there’s every chance of Spurs winning a trophy or two under Jose what we’ve seen from Spurs since Jose’s appointment imo is better organisation and game plan tactics even if their not pretty at times as well as increased commitment from the players.
Spurs were in a false position when Jose took over though and whoever took over was likely to take Spurs up the table, Spurs rode their luck yesterday they aren’t the first team to do so and they won’t be the last and City were masters of their own downfall that can happen in football and the longer it went on even before the sending off there was a sense that Spurs would get a breakaway and sneak a one nil win.

3rd February 2020 at 8:17 am #67400Puppy… we might sneak a cup or two, but with LiberoOol and Moneybags around, I very much doubt the league is a possibility, especially as there are other “large” clubs also in the process of re-building, and more than a couple of “lesser” clubs also getting their acts together in a rather impressive fashion.
Having said that, a new Spuds seem to be emerging from the ashes of Poncho’s reign, a new look mid-field and a fair bit of pace up top, something we haven’t really had lately apart from Sonny. Long way to go but I’m not that upset about the direction we’re seemingly heading towards.

3rd February 2020 at 8:36 am #67402AnonymousPaxton… Be very careful for what you wish for. Some of the football jose is capable of serving up should be tried in the Hague under footballing war crimes. If you are unlucky enough to watch 90 minutes of it, you will happily jump into a mass grave afterwards.
The silverware is a medal of honour to anyone’s survival skills. (Still the best manager we’ve ever had and am grateful, but then perhaps that’s Stockholm syndrome)
Enjoy it when its good and be prepared for when it sours.

3rd February 2020 at 9:08 am #67404Chucky, that’s true, I can’t see anyone bar Liverpool and City fighting for the title in the short term everyone else is in the rebuilding stage inc to a certain extent City themselves.
