Spot on, Steveo. We are becoming Liverpool of yesteryear. On the bright side, that bodes well for where we’ll be in 20yrs! ?

23rd January 2020 at 8:17 am #61300Anonymousi read (can’t remember where) that poch has met with senior united staff and said he’ll take the job on the proviso that woodward has no dealings in the transfer market.

Sounds like he’s aiming to do some damage to that checkbook! π

23rd January 2020 at 8:40 am #61305Adlab you made some good points in your analysis of United’s problems and then spoilt it all with this silly piece of nonsense.”plus the transfer approach of signing players ad hoc just because City expressed an interest.”
Surely you can’t really think United sit there waiting for City to express an interest in a player and then say right let’s sign him cos City want him?
All Clubs chase the same players especially the elite Clubs it’s a very small pool they all fish in and if there was any sort of truth in what you say United have done you a favour on multiple occasions.?

23rd January 2020 at 8:52 am #61309It does look like Ole will go probably at the end of the season but that doesn’t solve United’s problems because they go deeper than that and I think they will need to take Edwards responsibility for the football side of United away from him and leave him with just the Commercial side of the business to concentrate on at the same time appointing a DOF. Whether he would accept that now of course is open to conjecture.
The big challenge for United now is who to appoint in the Summer because it’s unlikely Ole will go past this season and after 4 wrong appointments in 7 years the next one has to be the right one. Maybe it is Poch but he won nothing at Spurs in 5 years and whilst there may have been some factors that held him back from doing so that’s a question mark against him that the owners will have to wrestle with Allegri is another name who has been a continuous winner but he inherited a very good Juve side and speaks little English so both are still a risk.

23rd January 2020 at 9:19 am #61315AnonymousI’ve spoken in length about Utd, so I’ll avoid that here but Ed, if Utd’s value has been going up like you suggested it had then I’m lost for words. I don’t understand how Utd could be selling a lot of merchandise, whilst being such an awful team, with horrible football.
I mean are they really bringing in new fans all the time with this tripe? Is their obviously massive fanbase THIS loyal to the brand? The matchday fans have finally had enough, so surely the people watching at home would have kinda had enough before then? it’s always the matchday lads who can weather the storm a bit better, with regards to loyalty to the club, of course though, they are also more organized and (no pun) united. So if they’ve had enough, you will really hear about it. You will see it on your screens.
So the they marched out last night from what I gather? Good on them. They shouldn’t accept such mediocrity.
If the owners are so happy to see the value of the club increase with this shite, are they not asking themselves what it could be if the club were managed properly?
Seriously, just fire them all from top to bottom. By this I mean all the head positions, not literally everyone. Utd are where they are now because of a gross lack of proper talent, from top to bottom, with regards to the running of the club. Fire them all.
Liverpool went through this before and I honestly don’t know if I could go through it again. I think I’d stop supporting the club. By that I mean I’d just take a back seat from football, not go off and support another π .. It’s meant to be enjoyable, not some kind of experiment to see how much you can take before you snap and smash all your Man Utd mugs.

23rd January 2020 at 9:20 am #61317AnonymousAs for when Ole will go. No way he lasts the season. Woodward and co will need a fall-guy once again and to leave Ole in there will be to have more and more questions asked.
Ole will be gone within a few weeks.

23rd January 2020 at 9:32 am #61319Yep, here you go Mak https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-latest-value-increase-17606500
Almost depressing to see. I mean, it’s more about investor confidence than fan loyalty, but you’d expect some correlation between the two. The latter will surely erode before the former though. Utd, as embarassing as we are on the pitch, are stupidly good off it in terms of securing commercial partnerships.
Not a great thing to see though as a fan. You want the board to have a reason to take action, not have a reason to look the other way

23rd January 2020 at 10:12 am #61327Mak…one thing for sure…I would take a back seat like you if I did not enjoy what was being served, In saying that I have watched some dire City teams but just that odd spark there was something there. Nowadays, say last 10 years everything has changed for the better. I feel sorry for any Utd Manager having to serve under the management and philosophy they have on how to build a team. I also feel sorry for the talented youngsters they have, they are in a situation that will not help them develop, too much responsibility for them and the experienced players they have look less interested or not good enough Funny game football

23rd January 2020 at 10:56 am #61338AnonymousThe kiss of death. Just changing the manager will change nothing though. You could put Klopp in there at Utd and they’d still not reach their potential.
Ed, that’s an absolutely insane leap in value. I mean, I expected it to be a small amount and even then, it’s impressive/depressing, whichever way you wanna look at it.
When Utd do actually get it right, they’ll be unstoppable. Nobody will be able to compete with their financial might. The only reason teams can now is because it’s essentially being set fire to and thrown at a wall, hoping that something sticks.

23rd January 2020 at 11:21 am #613519s-There is a very simple solution to Utds probs,we have to take it easy & slow, and realise & accept that there are/is no quick fix.Instead, focus medium to long-term plans, and accept the fact that our cycle is finished, and that our era of dominance its over.Nobody has the right to win all the time,no matter what you are called.

Try telling that to some former cyber chums (I miss him!).
This is also another advantage of supporting a club who never win anything. Don’t miss the apple you’ve never tasted.

23rd January 2020 at 11:30 am #61356Money has been spent, without doubt, but without any clear strategy or without any thought process. And therein lies the problem-money! Nobody has any plans/ideas on how to build a team @ United, just spend/waste/spunk the GDP of Greece/Portugal on every player. Why dont they do what Lamps is doing @ Chelsea,I will never know.

23rd January 2020 at 11:35 am #61357Adlab-No matey,Poch is not a winner, but to be completely honest, primarily with ourselves,we Utd fans are not expecting trophies right now, just a fight for the CL & some bloody decent football now & again.Having said all this, our 3 best players are injured,so no much chance of things improving.I just hope & pray we dont qualify for the EL,we need to focus on rebuild, but most importantly other teams deserve it more,Wolves,SHU,Spudies,Everton, for example.

23rd January 2020 at 11:37 am #61358Ed. In the earlier post I was implying that Poch is NOT a serial winner. Perhaps my nuance?
In terms of signings I was referring to Sanchez, Fred and Maguire all of whom were linked to City before Utd stepped in with very big offers. What Utd need, and of course is easier said than done, is a top creative midfielder. Fernandez is according to all reports just that….so they should go hard for this type of player. That alone wont make them into a top side but it would certainly help.
I still dont think they were as bad as the result and press suggest. They just didnt take their chances early on. That has been us in many games but we have KDB.
