OK I’m confused. Maupay has just come on which begs 2 questions, why didn’t he start? And why did maupay not replace simms when he came off 20 mins ago? Instead dyche brought gray on and played him through the middle, really strange.
Not that maupay is a world beater or anything but he is experienced in prem and simms was useless . Can only assume maupay been injured.

13th February 2023 at 9:44 pm #204299Just looked at sky commentary timeline on sky sports and dyche was asked why he starts simms over maupay before game, his answer “simms brings a presence and energy”

Why do others have to get involved and make things 10 times worse? Jeez.

13th February 2023 at 9:55 pm #204303Some real sparkle at long last.
3 points and a more familiar performance. For games, we’ve been bullied and today these players were kicking lumps out of ours, but we took our chances when needed at most. We look more confident, more purposeful and more like LIVERPOOL!
YES! Newcastle here we come! 🙂

13th February 2023 at 9:57 pm #204304Everton are atrocious. Wouldnt get carried away with that win. Need to build on that but always enjoyable to beat Everton

13th February 2023 at 10:55 pm #204305Yes we’ve been here before this season with the team digging out a performance only for it to fizzle out again over the next games. In recent years I think the fear factor of our attack allowed us to press less as the opposition tended to keep back somewhat. So we really need to get the attack working well again as I’m not sure we have it in the tank to press so much in every game for the rest of the season. Diaz will help but Klopp really needs to find a fluid and effective system up top.

14th February 2023 at 5:22 am #204306Sean you are right Everton were really bad but they were just a few inches from taking the lead. Just think if they had everyone would be calling it a Dyche masterclass! Although I felt confident we would score we were moving the ball very quickly which hasn’t happened enough this season.
Bajcetic was excellent fully deserves the plaudits. Hard to image he is only 18 in his breakout season. Was also nice to see Robertson bomb forward like his former self.
Interesting that Nunez spent most of thr time on the left with Gakpo central. Wonder what will be our starting front 3 wil be when Jota, Bobby and Diaz are fully back?

14th February 2023 at 5:47 am #204307Been saying for a while I still fancy Liverpool to be in the race for a CL spot. If Liverpool could beat Newcastle this weekend coming, I’d actually make them favourites

14th February 2023 at 7:24 am #204308We would need to go on one of those runs when we just blow everyone away like in previous seasons. The trouble is we haven’t looked like doing that at any point of this season. Last night was a nice win and could be a catalyst to send us on a run but I bet many thought that after beating City. Newcastle is a big match as I think the top 3 is now looking settled so only one spot up for grabs.

14th February 2023 at 7:30 am #204309Threeps, gakpo was dropping in with the two wide players well advanced but like the old front 3. Something you have spotted in the past that we were not doing with Nuñez through the middle. That was gakpos best game.
Ed, not many Liverpool fans will get carried away by one game. Let’s see how we get on on sat. We need to get a proper run going now but have sone tough games on the way. 3 out of out next 4 games are away. Just can’t see us getting top 4.
We don’t need to buy another forward player for a while now. I think Bobby should go in the summer. Absolutely great servant. On his day fabulous to watch but his time is up now as we have enough cover

14th February 2023 at 7:32 am #204310I don’t think you’d need one of those runs Threeps. You’re not up against a City (of that time) for a CL spot. Both us and Newcastle (and especially Spurs and below) are capable of letting other teams in. You’d be 3 points behind Newcastle if you beat them and win your game in hand. You only need to be slightly better than them over the remainder of the season if you can do that.

14th February 2023 at 7:35 am #204311No, there’s nothing to get carried away about Sean, I get that. On the other hand, there was probably not much to get carried away negatively either considering where you were only last season but many did get carried away after a few bad results. It’s too early to either write Liverpool off or suggest they’re back. Still so much of the season to go.

14th February 2023 at 8:15 am #204312You’ll finish above us, for sure, no form at all, our 2nd best player now out for the season, Sonny not showing up at all, Perisic has been pants since the WC (and with Wee Ryan injured, Ivan the Terrible won’t be dropped), Zorro already looking like a mistake (okay, one game, but bloody hell, was expecting a bit more than that for all the aggro he caused!), our back up goalie until April (boy, did he look rusty against Foxy Ladies!)… fancy Pool for 5th at least.
Getting very close to writing this season off, assuming Conte will be off, very probably Harry will be off and Poncho most likely coming in (and probably bring back Dele!)…
Nevermind, we flirted with “doing something”, back to mid-table for us for the next decade at least!

14th February 2023 at 8:31 am #204313Ah that’s it Ed. Absolutely disgraceful over reaction from sone quarters on our season. Our game in hand is Chelsea away which is always tough
We see how we go but we need to build on last night

14th February 2023 at 8:32 am #204314Everton were awful and what was Pickford doing for the first goal but you can only beat what’s in front of you and that was a much better performance from Liverpool with players still to come back I wouldn’t write off their chances of a top 4 finish.
As for Everton it will be tough for them to get out of where they are given the players available.

14th February 2023 at 8:33 am #204315Ed, if we beat Newcastle then that’s 2 wins in a row. That in itself is a run we’ve not seen much this season! I think to truly cement 4th a run of 5 or more wins would be needed, or something like a w7 d3 sort of thing. All season we get a good result only to drop points the next match. Admittedly those immediately above are not pulling up trees either, but they have more points on the board already.

14th February 2023 at 8:37 am #204316Also we need to beat Newcastle if we are to have any chance of top 4. I think we just want to see significant improvement for the rest of the season.
As mikuis, says we have had a few false dawns this season so we really need to build on this
