As far as i understand it was the same ref yesterday who didn’t send off Klopp who sent off Santo. The only reason for the inconsistency is that he got stick for not doing anything about Klopp against Everton, and Klopp was disciplined by the authorities, so the ref had to act this time. It’s a little unfait to accuse him of inconsistency now, when his bosses told him he’d made a mistake agaoinst Everton last time. So what does he do? Ignore his bosses?

20th January 2019 at 10:40 am #31719AnonymousIt’s a bit of a let-down to not have football for the next 11 days. It’s good for the lads to get a rest but is 11 days too much? We want them to come back from it sharp. On the plus side though, Klopp gets time to do more than just watch the lads recover. He gets to train them and the mistakes have been creeping in.
I said that we’d suffer as a result of Gomez getting injured and I honestly hate being quite THIS right. We’ve let in half a seasons worth of goals in just a few games. To people who have watched all of our matches this season, Gomez’s importance is self-evident but to the average neutral, he’ll have gone completely under the radar and massive shadows cast by Alisson, Van Dijk and Robertson. If you non-LFC fans want to have a piece of information that is on the money and not yet completely in the eye of the media yet, it is that Gomez is one of the best CBs in the PL/EU/World. (is it much more of a statement, since the PL is the best league in Europe, which is by far the largest pool of top talent on the planet.)
There I said it. I imagine that I’ve gone further than Sean, Hightown, Oz and the others would but I mean it. Like Robertson, Gomez was playing to such a high standard that it was really only a matter of time as the footballing world realised it. there’s always going to be big latency when you’re talking about a player who has no big tag come before him (like a huge signing on fee etc).
We could have dropped points yesterday and no doubt we’ll have these kinds of situations ahead. I a,m getting very impatient about the return of Gomez and not just because we are losing everyone else!… That isn’t helping though either.

20th January 2019 at 11:10 am #31721AnonymousReally enjoyed the Chelsea – Arsenal game, the Gooners were really up for it and looked a bloody good team, top 4 is well in reach for them.
I don’t get the Chelsea X1 as good as Pedro, Willian and Hazard are they are not natural goalscorers, where were Moratta or Giroud. I can only assume Sarri is trying to make a point by not playing them , I rewckon he’s playing a dangerous game , how long will Roman give him ???_____________________________

20th January 2019 at 11:29 am #31722Mak, Gomez is good, very good in fact, but don’t forget he has only really done it for half a season. Let”s not get ahead of ourselves!
Btw, how good was Hendo yesterday? I thought he was superb yesterday…and no, I’m not trying to start a Hendo-watch!!!

20th January 2019 at 11:49 am #31724There’s 4 teams in the race for those final 2 places for the CL next year. Spuds are obviously in pole-position by virtue of having the points on the board but no Sir Harry and Sonny for the foreseeable future is going to have a big impact. Would like to think we’ll have enough against certain teams in the Prem, like Fulham this afternoon, but I have a feeling we’re in trouble in all the Cups… it could very well be we’re simply left in the race for the Top 4 by the time those two come back…
As for the footy yesterday, Pool aren’t winning the neutrals over with Salah’s antics (nor their constant claims for dubious penalties, I saw 3 in the 15 minutes I watched and they were all softer than a bowl of Angel Delight, no need for it lads!), and thought the Goonies were okay, nothing brilliant, but Chelsea were very, very poor. Stick somebody on #5 (like the Goonies did with Ramsey) and Chelsea are a mid-table side at best. The tactics have been clearly shown on how to stop Chelsea… whether the oppo’s are good enough that a different matter.
Hopefully they’ll both be back for that double header in the Prem with the Goonies and Chelsea in March, that’s the race for the Top 4 there…

20th January 2019 at 12:03 pm #31725Another good and important result, but if forced to bet I’d put my money on City for the title. Liverpool’s squad is fully stretched and I can’t believe we haven’t brought in any new defenders in this window yet.
We are now at the stage of the season when the squad depth of City will make the difference. Liverpool can’t cover more than 2 or 3 players missing whereas City can field two full teams.
Now Fabinho abd Milner to be added to the missing list.
Still a great position but not sustainable.

20th January 2019 at 12:07 pm #31726Think it was only due to that same ref being told off for not sending klopp to the stands that caused him to send off the wolves managers.
Hate diving, and salah was right in front of me – he shoukd have been booked. Was a dive from Zaha in the first 5 mins too but seemed to be missed from the highlights.

20th January 2019 at 12:22 pm #31728Banjo they were two clear handballs mate. People are looking for ways to have a go at us. No one likes what salah is doing. We have had one dubious Leno. Rest were pens but you won’t see that
I agree Beni. We haven’t dropped any points to the teams outside the top teams. That’s an unreal stat and sooner or later we will drop points to one of these teams
Alfie , Alonso has escaped 3 red cards this season.
Henderson was excellent yday Hightown. Huge win. Fabhino again was brilliant and had been for two months now. Great signing

20th January 2019 at 12:31 pm #31729Also banjo absolutely no neutrals are on our side from what I can see.
Everything we do is analyzed to bits. We hardly get any credit at the minute but that’s fine as we haven’t done anything
We are an excellent side now with a brilliant tactically astute manager who is still questioned
Huge pity we have come up againest a side like city. We have 60 points now. We have dropped 9 points. It’s a remarkable record yet we may need to be only able to drop another 3 points if we want to win the league with 15 games left. It’s just our luck.
I can’t see city dropping many points. They have had our blip and we haven’t. They will win by at least 5 today. For us to even up there with them is huge huge progress

20th January 2019 at 12:35 pm #31730I’m not sure whether Klopp has ever favoured a senior head or just somebody with a vast amount of experience in defence we could bring in like a Kalo Toure just to add steel or just be the glue that keeps it together.
Always been a fan of Laurent Koshielny. I like Gomez, but he is still new to the circuit and developing. We in my view need experience.
Milner sacrifized himself yesterday and took the punishment. Who knows what may have happened.
I can’t complain at all in waiting till the 30th. Think of it as a mini Winter Break for us and some time to recoup or rehab. We get through the next 2 or 3 fixtures with wins before Bayern Munich, we’d be in good stead. Can’t see City winning every single game even with a great squad depth as theirs.

20th January 2019 at 12:39 pm #31731Sean agree there mate.
I’m not really bothered about praise from others. 3 points is what matters. I’m not sure why one moment from Salah though is accentuated and paid so much attention to.
There’s plenty of other things too talk about. The irony too is that we didn’t even get anything for that dive, so don’t get the uproar.

20th January 2019 at 1:55 pm #31738Fortuitous, but they all count. The Terriers had quite a decent spell before that strike.
Thought at one point looking as the Shirt Strips that they were Man City 😉 😛
