21st January 2019 at 9:54 am #31810Chuckles, yep itβs a tricky one diving, but it has to be made a red card offence, and if itβs clearly a dive on VAR then theyβre off….Pagan

21st January 2019 at 9:56 am #31811That’s the point Peggy, clear dives with no contact, fair enough, but where is the line drawn where there is contact but the player fancies his chances for an Oscar? We’ve seen plenty of those over the years…

21st January 2019 at 10:11 am #31812Chuckles, we are then faced with the choice when using VAR
There are going to be mistakes, but do you want the 50-50 ones to go in favour of the diver or not. It may need a few mistakes but it may be the only way to put an end to it….Pagan

21st January 2019 at 10:50 am #31813AnonymousA new rule needs putting in place for diving, at the moment if the ref sees it it’s a yellow but a huge % of divers aren’t seen and they cheat their way to penalties, sendings off and bookings. If the ref missed the dive the player should receive a retrospective ban, 3 matches for the first offence,6 for the second and so on. Would managers crack down if that was the punishment for diving ? I reckon so.
And yes Spurs players dived yesterday and I feel gutted by it._____________________________

21st January 2019 at 10:51 am #31814Officials and VAR can work together to try and eliminate diving. I wouldn’t label Mo Salah as some sort of a ‘serial’ diver. If that was the case, you see him in every other area of the pitch feigning injury. But it doesn’t excuse him trying to ‘buy contact’. Just let the Ref do his job.
I would be concerned based on that in favour of the Defender and a classic example was Raheem Sterling yesterday. I felt the Huddersfield defender won the ball fairly but it was the expense of unable to quickly pull himself away to the point of collision so Sterling is impeded and his standing position lost.
Something like that possibly down to Referee’s decision or there needs to be a clear definition whether or not that type of challenge would constitute a foul.

21st January 2019 at 10:52 am #31815Peggy… I can see the exact same situation we have now with the “Trail by Video” after the game nonsense we have now, except now the ref will be forced to watch it in the ground and then still do their best to wash it all under the carpet. How many times have we all seen something that was crystal clear during SKY replys be “dismissed” by the disciplinary boards a week later… we’ll still have the same nonsense except now we’ll have during the game instead of after…

21st January 2019 at 3:54 pm #31833NB….have to disagree about Sterling yesterday and you have stated “Sterling was impeded” Penalty Defenders do not go into tackles with the thought of pulling out, witness Walker, same match….he should have been sent off

21st January 2019 at 4:11 pm #31834Sterling looked a penalty to me.
The title race looks like it will come down to whether City can keep winning and Liverpool can handle that pressure.
Liverpool still in driving seat though and they seem to be getting the breaks too which is often a sign of a title winning team.

21st January 2019 at 6:55 pm #31840What breaks are they nine? The Everton game done very good fortune there. We have had a bit of fortune
Didnβt have any luck in our biggest game of the season when Kompany should have been off and he shoukd have been off after 4 mins againest burnley. The ball was out for sane againest burnley but goal given.
All the focus is on Liverpool and no talk of cities good fortune.
All the mention of cities injuries but no mention of us missing 3 centre backs and we have no right back.
Iβd be very superseded if anyone on here apart from Liverpool fans would like us to win it
I think we used up all our good fortune in 2005 lol
We are only 4 points ahead to one of the best teams the pl has ever seen. We may have to win 14 out of 15 pl games to win the league
Itβs not going to happen. We have won 17 out of 17 games againest all the teams below 6th. Itβs a crazy stat and surely one that wonβt continue
City are still firm favorites for me and I fully expect them to win the league. Our form had been remarkable but I donβt think it can be sustainable

21st January 2019 at 7:02 pm #31841It is a pity we chat about diving but there are serial divers in the league. I hesitate to name them as I will be accused of bias so excluding my own team but by reference to others on here….
Spurs
Lamella, Deli alli, RoseChelsea
Hazard (although he does get fouled a lot)Utd
Young(the granddaddy of them) Rashford sometimes but not a serial diver.Liverpool
SalahIm sure there are others but if we can pick them so can the refs?

21st January 2019 at 7:17 pm #31843Really, Adders? I mean really? Don’t know if anybody else would agree with me, but your list is missing about 6,000 professional footballers… in fact, I double dare you to name ONE player who doesn’t con the referee!!

21st January 2019 at 7:25 pm #31844Just those in our teams!
Of course there are loads more eg Gray and Vardi Leicester etc etc…Have you seen this?
The Liverpool player was sent off against Crystal Palace by referee Jon Moss, who was Milner’s PE teacher at Westbrook Lane Primary School in Leeds.

21st January 2019 at 7:40 pm #31846The issue/problem/whatever with this ‘debate’ for me, is the notion that the likes of those mentioned in your list are “divers” yet everybody else plays the game honestly. In my view, cheaters are cheaters, full stop, and as I mentioned above, show me a professional footballer who hasn’t exaggerated a foul, hasn’t claimed for a throw-in they knew came of them, a corner from a shot they skanked, hopefully you get my point!
Nil, how’s Super Stevie G doing these days? π
