How can Liverpool go from being so good last season and almost winning the lot to being this bad, though? It’s just such a drastic decline. He has earned the right, surely, to have a write-off season?

4th February 2023 at 5:49 pm #203720Fair points threeps. Iβd be very disappointed in Klopp if he walked away from this massive challenge . He needs to show he has the balls for a fight

4th February 2023 at 5:54 pm #203721That’s kinda my point Sean, I don’t think he is in the right mindset anymore for such a challenge. This is the route of all the issues, handing over to others and losing the Klopp influence.

4th February 2023 at 6:00 pm #203722Liverpool fans, if Klopp did go, what would you think of Roberto De Zerbi as a replacement? Is it too early to judge him? Looks very good so far. Tuchel has followed Klopp reasonably successfully before so might be worth a go. Poch would be a bad choice IMO.

4th February 2023 at 6:01 pm #203723I donβt want any of them Ed. I really want to see Klopp turn it around and given time. For me he has a free hit of an absolutely shit season

4th February 2023 at 6:05 pm #203725Ed, its a testament to Klopp that he got so much out of last year’s team. But in some ways it’s worked against him because it made out the team was in good order when it actually wasn’t at a deeper level and now we see the reality this season. But the problem for him as a manager is he is the one who still carries the can, as all managers do.

4th February 2023 at 6:08 pm #203726For me there are two choices. Klopp either rolls up his sleeves and takes back control, stamping his authority and image on the team. Or if he hasn’t got it in him anymore which hearing about his stress and what his wife says wouldn’t surprise me then he needs to hand over. This situation, the third option, cannot carry on.
De Zebri has impressed me a lot the few times I’ve seen Brighton but it has only been a few times. You’ve also got the sale/not a sale thing going on which will always complicate a manager and staff overhaul.

4th February 2023 at 6:12 pm #203727Sean, it’s very difficult now as a lot of damage is being done to Klopp’s reputation. As I just discussed with reds on TT, the backroom staff needs sorting. But that’s going to take time, all the while Klopp is there taking the pressure with these results. The club has lacked leadership off the pitch imo.

4th February 2023 at 6:24 pm #203730Was only my suggestion Sean. Haven’t seen you linked with him. I know you turned your nose up at Tuchel for being too negative so not sure who else you could go for tbh. I know you don’t want Klopp to go but I’m just curious who you would accept in the event he did go.

4th February 2023 at 6:29 pm #203731Iβd except no one Ed. Iβd be disgusted if he was sacked mate. Sorry didnβt mean to sound like was having a go
Just very disappointed we are even discussing klopps future as some of our fans really have short memories.

4th February 2023 at 6:39 pm #203732I’m with you Sean on Klopp. He may have taken the team as far as he can. He may not. I honestly think it’s irrelevant. As long as he’s not taking you down (he isn’t, obviously) then the last few years have surely bought him the chance to try to fix this. There is obviously a point at which it must be admitted that he can’t fix it but it can’t be yet. Would be crazy to sack him.

4th February 2023 at 6:41 pm #203733Sean, dont think I have seen a pool fan comment that he should be sacked. More whether he is still able to be the driving force he was, does he still have the energy and desire or even the grip as threeps is talking about.
That is for him to answer although I would presume he would have already walked if he felt he wasn’t the best man any more.

4th February 2023 at 6:57 pm #203736Exactly Lucky. I’d love Klopp to walk in tomorrow and roll his sleeves up and make whatever drastic changes are need to be done done. Grab the situation by the horns and get it sorted. So far he hasn’t shown that at all. I don’t want him sacked at all but i also dont want this situaion to continue. If he doesn’t feel he can get it back to how it was then he should be thinking what is best for himself and the team but that should be his and his families decision, like he has always said.

4th February 2023 at 7:06 pm #203737Lucky, it was an interesting article you recently linked to about the brain drain at the club. Just again shows I guess that getting all the right ingredients together at the same time at a club: CEO, Head of Recruitment & Manager is very difficult to do. The way weve lost and recruited such people though needs to be looked at imo. The right successors have to be lined up long before you lose your current leaders. I wonder if the following was a turning point? With Peter Moore we seemed to lose someone with many years experience in different industries.

4th February 2023 at 7:18 pm #203739Mikus, that’s right there are many important factors, to bring de zerbi back in to it because its a good example, he getting a lot of credit but look at the well oiled system he came in to at Brighton and look at how Potter is struggling moving in to the chaos at Chelsea.

4th February 2023 at 9:23 pm #203740“Klopp seems to have struggled to find another way of playing.”
This is what I have suggested. Of course I don’t want Liverpool to be better than us but as semi neutral I am sure you are correct. Your front three was exceptional. Getting the ball to them as quickly as possible was right but that front three isn’t there so it needs a different approach.
