It’s a good point Mikus but you’d have expected the likes of Everton and West Ham to start closing the gap with the money they’re spending. I think that gap is as much about the likes of them and maybe even Leicester underachieving this season than the rest pulling away

14th January 2019 at 2:12 pm #31308Whoever United appoint they are just two or three players from being a very good team and challenging for the title again and they are a wealthy Club and much less burdened by FFP than anyone else of the top 6.
I can see things getting very interesting next Season City are under the microscope with UEFA re spending even if they escape sanctions which is likely to reel in their spending , Liverpool are resurgent under Klopp and I can see United competing for the title next season whoever they appoint but after arguably three wrong appointments Ole would be a risk even if United won the CL.
Spurs are getting closer and if they have a smart Summer transfer window in their new Stadium they could go closer.
Arsenal and Chelsea are currently in transition but if they get some breakthroughs in the transfer market we could see even more Club’s involved in the title race next season and a much closer top 6.

14th January 2019 at 2:33 pm #31312Ooooo,easy lads with the CL and United in the same sentence.Making the 4th and a decent run in the FA Cup it`s the aim.

14th January 2019 at 2:38 pm #31314Oh it’s extremely unlikely Mav. I think people are just using the CL as a yardstick in terms of what’s the absolute best Ole could achieve this season which would force Woodward’s hand, and winning the CL would undoubtedly do that. I doubt we’ll even get to the next round, never mind win it!

14th January 2019 at 3:05 pm #31316A good win yes. DeGea saved them and Spurs finishing was poor. But..three points is three points. I hope they appoint OGS as manager. Hes not the long term solution despite the good run of results. Much is a reaction to getting rid of Jose. Still a long way to go!

14th January 2019 at 3:23 pm #31318DDG definitely saved us but that’s why keepers exist. Spurs didn’t have a shot on target all first half and only started to dominate the game after the hour mark which you’d expect when playing at home and chasing a game. Lloris saved Spurs on a number of occasions too and Utd could have easily had the game wrapped up by half time had we taken our chances.
Adlab it’s definitely a lot about the Jose effect being removed from the whole club. As you say, and as Utd fans are well aware, there’s a hell of a long way to go before we can truly say we’ve turned a corner. The very fact Utd fans are already writing off Ole for the job long term tells you we’re not getting carried away one bit, albeit we’re enjoying every minute while it lasts.

14th January 2019 at 3:39 pm #31319With Jose in charge United would have been spanked yesterday,no doubt about it.The world of football is much better off without him!

14th January 2019 at 4:19 pm #31320That’s it Ed, it’s a bit like the Arsenal situation. On the surface you’d think Arsenal are now doing vastly better under Emery…but they’re only 2 points better off this season than they were at this stage under Wenger last season. And he hasn’t solved the form of Ozil. Now things may still improve for Arsenal in the longer term, and the change in manager was needed, but clearly there’s a lot more work to be done (particularly in terms of recruitment) to really start kicking on and moving upwards.
As for the likes of Everton & Leicester underperforming this season to put pressure on the top six, that may be partly the case, and I certainly think there is a dearth of good managers. But sadly wage bill increasingly dictates on where a club now finishes.

14th January 2019 at 6:28 pm #31322AnonymousThat was a very costly game for Spurs last night, the lose I can take as on another day we could have won 9-4 .The injury list is now past stupid ,we started last night without our 1st 2nd amd 3rd choice DMF. now add Disco to that list and we are down to Winksy, good luck lad. Sonny off, Harry out, will Levy get his cheque book out ?? I feel our season hangs in the balance , will the club live to regret the lack of signings I reckon so.
One thing I saw last night surprised me, Utd had a break in the sun while we played Chelsea but it was Utd that looked done in on the hour._____________________________

14th January 2019 at 6:32 pm #31324TBA, us tiring on the hour mark was a result of our much more intense start to the game than what we’ve been used to under Jose. You have to remember, Spurs players are used to playing high intensity pressing football whereas under Jose, we almost always stood off and only pressed when a goal down. By the sounds of things coming out of the Utd camp, Ole is looking for much more intensity in the opening stages and it takes a while to become accustomed to that

14th January 2019 at 6:40 pm #31325Disappointing to see another instance of racism in football at the weekend. This time, believe it or not, a fan accused of racially abusing one of his own players. Some of these people don’t deserve to attend football games

14th January 2019 at 7:14 pm #31327AnonymousEd , don’t want to pee on the party as things do look a lot better for Utd onder OGS but I still believe you need 5/6 top, top players to compete at the highest level . Talking of fitness that was Spurs 13th game in 33 days that’s how fit ( or injured) Poch has the Spurs lads , it took a season to get there though.

14th January 2019 at 7:16 pm #31329What a strong bench! Aguero, KDB, Mahrez, Gudogan, Delph, Otemendi! (and Muric).
Hope we can win and change for the next game.
Would have started KDB?_____________________________

14th January 2019 at 7:17 pm #31330Utd have the players. They just needed a bit of direction and to let the players express themselves. Pogba and Rashford look totally different players now.
Spurs missed some great chances but utd had chances in the 2nd half. It was a great game
