This will go
Right down to the last few gamesWe haven’t had a blip yet. It’s how re over after that blip will determine how we finish

agree on your point re Leadership. We’ve added to the squad and addressed the key areas where it was needed for us to become more solid such as a new Keeper, a Centre Half and Defensive Midfielders. Sure, we could always do with extra cover as full-backs go, but we have Leaders in our team and Winners.
Plus I’ve noticed there’s synergy between our players that has made us click and flourish. Look for example how well Wijnaldum plays when he is supported by Fabinho.
Also, Keita and Mane work so well along with Robertson, Trent, Gomez and Van Dijk. The maturity is visible, but that’s not surprising because of these players already knowing each other and experience.

30th December 2018 at 9:44 pm #30506Just read some of the recent posts on this thread with some interest.
At the moment, Liverpool are playing, without doubt, the best football and are playing with a swagger and a confidence. From that perspective, I do fear the worst for Thursday. Even more so because our defence is nowhere near as good as their’s at this stage.
Having said that, I do think Klopp will play a more conservative match, trying to protect the points lead, which may play into our hands.
The result today should give us a bit more confidence, as said previously, we looked back to our best in patches.
A draw wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. With 17 games still to play anything can happen as it has to us over the previous four games (before today).
The pressure is all on Liverpool but they’ve passed all tests so far and don’t look like letting up._____________________________

30th December 2018 at 10:06 pm #30508gi blues,
good point on the thinking of Klopp protecting the lead – you might be right. I’d be happy with draw.
There is a point in reference to 08/09 and 13/14. Rafa fielded his team with air of caution to the point where our defence was almost immaculate having just lost 2 games all season. But we were held at home by examples in Hull and West Ham and in those days, we struggled to break those type of teams down.
We were relying too much on United to slip up and of course that wasn’t to be.
Rodgers was a little too attack-minded and should have been more calculated when we faced Chelsea at the Bridge as all that was needed was a draw.
I’ve read elsewhere online on how Klopp won the League with Dortmund, and he has proven experience. Being at the helm now for over 3 years, I think he’s finally found the balance and his game is not just centred on gegen-pressing, but knowing how to defend and protect the lead.
I’ve noticed this time round narrow 1-0 wins and this reflects on our defensive record so far.
Cheers

30th December 2018 at 11:47 pm #30511Sean@9:33pm you’re right I did. Third time lucky? 🙂
If Liverpool were to win at the Etihad I think it would be an enormous task to pull 10 points back. If its a draw pulling 7 points back would be tough but not impossible and if City should win and reduce the defecit to 4 points it will probably go right to the end of the season.
Massive game now on Thursday night.
But whoever wins the title they do it over 38 games and it’s deserved. Cheers 999

31st December 2018 at 12:05 am #30512AnonymousSean, I get like that too as you know. Adlab, you were being seriously bitter though. You’ve been spamming about Salah/Liverpool getting penalties and being lucky but the fact is, the penalties haven’t added a single point to us. Another fact is that we’ve had 2 penalties at Anfield is a year and 1/3 or so. How many have you had round yer way in that time? It’s a lot more than 2 and I’m not even looking.
We’ve passed out City , what 2 weeks ago? You’re bitter because of this but the thing is, were we bitter to you while you were ahead of us? The only negative thing said about City that I can think of is about FFP and that is just about keeping things competitive. City have been financially juicing and maybe it’s too much to take that a team has temporarily passed you guys out, who’s playing fair?
It certainly reads that way. Sorry if this reads harsh but I’ve just been catching up and I see that things haven’t been great since I signed off earlier. I thought I’d give my 2 cents.
At least the build-up of tension on here will improve the quality of the rather uninteresting match between our clubs, whenever it is. I think it’s soon 😀

31st December 2018 at 12:21 am #30513Anonymous“some times it’s written in the stars and I’ve got a feeling that’s the way it may be”
Nine, there have been a few times now where you’ve said this about us and it’s not happened. I know one was last season in the CL. I’m almost certain that you said the same in 13/14 and maybe even the Europa League.
Even if we beat city, it’s far from done but I will change my own position on it then. You just cant be sure though. Newcastle lost a 12 point lead before. City were just amazing against Southampton though, in spells. That team is back and they won’t lose many more games this season, if any. So, as far as I’m concerned, we’ve got to beat them.
It may sound like a contradiction but ya, I agree that as things stand Liverpool are favourites. 7 points is a great advantage and I expected us to be chasing them, so before I think “oh they could only be 4 behind…”, just imagine if we were 4 behind heading into it. We’d be saying “win or it’s all over”. We know that one of us can achieve a 100 point season.
Nine, just to make a little point of perspective. You say that Utd are not out of the race for 4th and you say it because Utd are back looking dangerous again. They are 8 points behind. You can understand why Mizeroool (I couldn’t help myself) don’t want to get too excited because there’s a long ways to go yet eh 😉

I think we’ll see a very different match to the 0-0 before. Maybe a whole new kind of 0-0? 😛 No, really, I think we’ll see Klopp employ the high press like last season. It’s the best thing to do and it’ll give us the better chance at getting all 3 points.

31st December 2018 at 7:13 am #30520On the topic of New Year’s Honours, does anyone else disagree with the honours given to Kane and Southgate, and Chris Coleman a few years ago? Personally, I have 2 problems with it. Firstly, I don’t agree with current players being honoured unless they do something absolutely extraordinary (win a World Cup, multiple Ballon D’ors?). Secondly, awarding honours for failure? Sure, getting to the Semis is an impressive achievement but they still failed. This isn’t anything against Kane or Southgate but the concept of almost rewarding failure

31st December 2018 at 8:09 am #30526Apparently Keira Knightly’s award is at least partly based on work for charity. I’m actually more fine with that than the football examples, assuming it’s charity work out of the ordinary. As I said, I haven’t really read up on who else got them. But purely based on sporting reasons and, specifically, football reasons I don’t like the idea of rewarding failure.

31st December 2018 at 8:19 am #30529Makaveli@12:21am Mak, if you’re going to quote me then at least use the full quote so it’s in context.
“It would be squeaky bum time if City closed the gap though especially as Liverpool have been there before but some times it’s written in the stars and I’ve got a feeling that’s the way it may be.?
I think the Ed may be right and City could close the gap on Thursday but we’ll see.”
“My subsequent posts clarify exactly how I see it “If Liverpool were to win at the Etihad I think it would be an enormous task to pull 10 points back. If its a draw pulling 7 points back would be tough but not impossible and if City should win and reduce the defecit to 4 points it will probably go right to the end of the season.
Massive game now on Thursday night.”
“Teams have won the PL previously with big leads and teams have seen big leads eroded and lost the PL title too so it’s difficult to firmly predict the outcome but right now Liverpool are justifiably odds on favourites and it’s theirs to lose.”
Perspective? You might find understanding what’s actually being said in its entirety helpful!?
