29th December 2018 at 8:11 pm #30378AnonymousMav, honestly it’s not been like that for most of our games but recently the attacking flair has been stepping up to like it was last season. Shaqiri getting more time has been the catalyst for it in my opinion. i think there comes a point where having skillful players who will also work very hard become too difficult for certain types of teams to defend against.

29th December 2018 at 8:31 pm #30382Mak @ 8:06, agreed and good point.
We’re just in the lead, but can’t really place a label now other than just to at best enjoy the moment.
I can’t discount Spurs or Chelsea, and Arsenal have been different gravy under Unai Emery.
Results and fortunes can change dramatically, with ease.
I’d say positively, the challenge is:
1) How we deal domestically with the second half of the season
2) FA Cup
3) Champions League
Boost in news of OX, but we don’t have cover should for example, Robertson pick up an injury or just in general, in need of recovery. This is an area perhaps where we could be in need of strengthening.
Long way to go and so far, we’re in a great place 🙂

30th December 2018 at 8:16 am #30416AnonymousYou have to hand it to Liverpool ,that was ridiculous, unless they implode which I can’t see happening the title is theirs.
It was good to see Spurs challenging for the title for all of 4 days.
No way will Spurs have Jose he is the exact opposite of their footballing ethos, plus we don’t have the odd squillions £’s to buy lots of individuals who play like they’ve never met their team mates before._____________________________

30th December 2018 at 8:34 am #30417We still have Man City to play and the monkey isn’t off our backs just yet. If we were to be defeated, how would we respond? We have been in type of position historically and we have capitulated.
It’s not so much sounding negative – feel the opposite, but it’s keeping our feet on our ground because we are also involved in other competitions such as the FA Cup and The Champions League. It’s a very big ask for players like Van Dijk and Robertson to be delivering first class performances every time not to mention staying injury free.
I do hope though that OX could return soon for us if the rumours are true.
Some rotating will I’m sure take place and it’s up to those guys to be able to step up.

30th December 2018 at 8:55 am #30422AnonymousBricklayer, I sure hope so. I don’t think we’re away and free yet though, as we’ve to play City in Manchester. Also, we’re in a purple patch at the same time as they have hit a bump in the road. I think that can give a misleading representation of how the rest of the season will go. If we’re not far enough ahead by the time we hit a bump in the road, what if they are winning 8-9 in a row? they’ll pass us out again. So, I think it has to be about us getting some daylight between us. That’s why Man citys next 2 games are vital. If they lose them both then ya, I’ll call it. If they lose just the match against us then I may do also.. I’ll definitely think about it but jesus, we’re barely over the half way line.

30th December 2018 at 9:17 am #30423Not necessarily all in succession, but still City and United to play away, plus Chelsea and Spurs at home so these fixtures can’t be taken lightly and I’m sure points are going to be dropped.
It would be incredible if the number of our defeats were minimal, but we can’t afford too many draws as teams underneath us will just catch up and can’t see City or Spurs themselves dropping too many in succession.

30th December 2018 at 12:22 pm #30433Anonymous“Penalties not given after a dive….”
You mean not having a penalty at home in the league for over 400 days? The penalties we’ve gotten recently did nothing to the results BTW. So, what’s gonna change there now exactly? So, we’ll have to work 5% harder to close games off the old fashioned way. We won at a canter yesterday, another 2 goals wouldnt have been a problem if we needed them.As for the injuries, ya it’s a serious concern, with luck being the biggest factor but we’ve had injuries too. Not on the same level but Gomez is a huge loss. You non-Liverpool supporters might not be aware of how important he very suddenly became important to us. He’s played every bit as good as van Dijk in some and very very close to him in most games this season. That might sound like a load of bollox but it’s absolutely true. Our defence is definitely weaker without him. We also have Ox out for more than a year. We have missed him too but I think we’re starting to tick over again in midfield with Fabinho and Keita (to a lesser extent) settling right in.
We’ve not had Salah and Firmino out injured but they suffered for form for absolutely huge spells. You might not say it counts because they were still on the pitch but they were a shadow of their former selves. While you were blowing teams away earlier on, we were struggling with this. You didn’t see us telling you “watch it lads, the day may come when you’re not battering teams 4-0” It’s only recently enough that the fire in our attack has come back and it’s the mid-way point!
Even then, look at the starting 11’s you’ve put out during these times when you’ve been “depleted”
These teams all lose to leicester, Palace and everton. They aren’t exactly threadbare!

30th December 2018 at 12:44 pm #30436Yeah, I do remember at one point both Trent and Gomez out for us (think that was on the back of Burnley away).
I’m still not 100% convinced with Lovren in spite of him being with us for 4 years (or so).
Milner had to pitch in at right back and he himself has been forced to the sidelines.
We were leaving holes against both Chelsea and Arsenal away from home and were fortunate to pick up draws. In fairness, kudos to Fabinho and Keita who’ve stepped up to the plate even though they didn’t initially hit the ground running. Keita himself has been injured, but both have needed time to settle in the Premier League.
I’d say in comparison to City, you guys already have a settled and a ready-made squad with depth, but I do sympathize to a degree with their current situation of injuries.
