I’m not defending her award in any way. She might be equally undeserving for all I know or care. But that doesn’t IMO make the footballing ones any more or less deserved. I’m talking about the football ones in isolation rather than comparing to other industries. In terms of sporting achievements, I just think awards should not be given out for almost achieving something in a game where winning trophies is the ultimate goal.

31st December 2018 at 8:27 am #30532According to Pep De Bruyne is a doubt for Thursday night. The lad has only made 6 PL appearances this season and has been a massive miss for City. Hope he makes it I always want to see both sides at full strength for these really big games.

31st December 2018 at 9:52 am #30536AnonymousJust seen Kane’s dive.
Really Poor effort. Can see why he was caught and rightly booked.
Must try harder next time._____________________________

31st December 2018 at 9:53 am #30537Anonymous“Perspective? You might find understanding what’s actually being said in its entirety helpful!?”
No, I actually gave too much context.
” written in the stars”
You’ve used this phrase before in the past, with Liverpool and it’s turned out to not be. Whatever I’ve said after that is a carry on in the subject matter. I wasn’t trying to quote you out of context with regards to the clauses or complexities of it.
BTW, I just saw Kane’s dive. Now if you want to talk about bans. He’s even pretended to be hurt to get a player booked/sent off. Not that I like what Salah did for the first “penalty” (second was an actual penalty). What Kane is at here.. He just needs to be kicked while on the ground really. Where’s Roy Keane when you need him? You probably think I’m joking.
“does anyone else disagree with the honours given to Kane and Southgate”
The whole thing is a joke. So will commentators actually have to say “SIIRR HAARRYY!!!!” when he scores? That’ll sound completely retarded. I hope he never scores another goal, ever. The whole knighting thing is a load of bollox isn’t it? Ok I am Irish, that may sound like bias, it’s not. I would have the same level of disdain if we did it. Just get rid of the monarchy already. This is all needless pomp. They provide nothing and prance around with their billions living out Pride and Prejudice.

31st December 2018 at 10:07 am #30543Calm down Micky… considering Salah didn’t get a ban for his first fosbury flop, there’s obviously no way Sir Harry is getting one… even though BOTH deserve it!!
My problem with penalties these days is they’re so easy to “win”… forget what the rule book says, I know everybody likes to quote the “letter of the law” in these matters, but quite frankly, all three of Liverpool last penalties were as soft as shite. (Only using these as reference as they are fresh in peoples minds!).
Can’t stand the current notion/tactic of players simply looking for a cheap way out when they’ve run out of ideas in the box… they all turn into ballerinas the moment they cross that line… really is a joke these days, and yes, EVERY TEAM does it, including my own…

31st December 2018 at 10:17 am #30546Nine at 8:27.
Pep said that about Fernandinho for yesterday’s game at Southampton. I’d be very surprised if he’s not playing on Thursday – my view is, he didn’t play yesterday because they didn’t want to take a risk with the Liverpool game up next.
City, like a lot of clubs, play the injury situation very close to their chests._____________________________

31st December 2018 at 10:26 am #30547gj, hope so mate as a neutral I would like to see both sides at full strength. Shame KDB has missed so much of the season he’s pretty much irreplaceable bit like Fernandinho. Tbh from a neutrals perspective I would prefer a City win on Thursday just to keep the title race interesting. HNY. Cheers 999

31st December 2018 at 10:45 am #30550AnonymousChucky, our last penalty actually was one. I don’t remember a 3rd off hand. I’ve taken another look at the one I’ve been critical of Salah on and ya, the way he flops down is embarrassing. there is more contact in there that i’d originally credited though and for context, I’ve been in a argument with fellow reds about it, telling them very firmly that Salah just dived. I still don’t want to see it as a penalty because I can’t stand the drama and every awarded penalty like this, only fuels more of this shite.
harry kane’s is a million times worse though. zero contact and he’s also trying to get the player sent off/booked. Salah was at least hindered whilst trying to score. The only thing on Kane’s mind is to get the decision and that is not playing the game, that is gaming the rules. So, I wouldn’t ban Salah for the first, the other Salah one wasn’t soft at all in my opinion. The player has clattered into the back of him to try and make him miss. It’s an open and shut case. kane though, I would ban him. I’m sure you lads will disagree and claim bias. When you do that, remember that I was originally saying that Salah deserved to be banned and have only changed my mind upon reviewing it.
Cheers paxton, good to know. I mean he will have initials after his name though right? Will the commentators have to say them? If so it’s just gonna be awkward.

31st December 2018 at 10:51 am #30551Nine, certainly with you on that one pal.
Can’t say I’m too optimistic, not with the way ‘pool are playing – they really are awesome at the moment – no real weaknesses apart from, maybe, the lack of a playmaking MF. The offensive side of the their game is now built on power and pace (since Coutinho left) and it’s working a treat for them; they just overwhelm teams.
I’m hoping Klopp plays it a little more circumspect on Thursday, trying to protect his points advantage.
My City team would be Ederson: Walker, Stones, Laporte, LB (God knows): Fernandinho, Silva (D), De Bruyne, Sterling, Aguero, Sane.
LB position is a problem at mo with Mendy out and Delph banned. He may opt to play Laporte there and bring in Ottamendi or Kompany.
In truth, although a win would be great, I’d probably take a draw now if offered; 7 points behind with 17 games left is not insurmountable._____________________________

31st December 2018 at 11:14 am #30560It might suit us that city have to come at us but it’s such a tough place to go
A draw be a great result but even if we lose, there is no way anyone thought we would be four points clear of city after we had played them twice
Thursday will really show us what we are made of. This is going to go right down to the wire
Not one Liverpool fan is over confident even if we were ten points clear. We have been burned so so many times
We have had so many disappointments that no one should get carried away.
So many games left. City will come back into this.
Ferdhino has been a huge loss. I fully expect Kdb to start. Such a difficult game and a draw be like a win for me as no way did I think we be ahead of city now

31st December 2018 at 11:18 am #30561Mak, I’m sorry if it offends you if I think this might be Liverpool’s year to win the title in future I’ll drop you a post to ask you what I’m allowed to think and post on here.
As for predicting EL and CL wins for Liverpool they should have won the EL in 2016 and would have probably won the CL in 2018 but for Salah’s injury and Karius’s performance in goal so I wasn’t far away on either.
I’ve made my thoughts on the title race very clear in what I have posted and I’ve always been consistent all the way back to Chelsea’s first PL title win in 2005 it’s not over until the fat lady sings and it’s only won when you’re 7 points clear with two games to go.
If Liverpool were to win at the Etihad she will be practicing her scales though!?

31st December 2018 at 11:24 am #30563Micky… Salah vs Castle and Sir Harry vs Wolverines were both equally guilty and equally embarrassing. No debate from me on that. Lovern’s reaction to the gentle shove against the Goonies was a complete over reaction and unless his neck was about to grow 48 inches in the next half a second (which I think we can agree is highly unlikely) there was no “goal scoring opportunity” missed.
Salah’s “incident” against Arse, in my eyes was a case of Salah realizing he had missed the opportunity and subsequently pulled a Vardy, namely slowed right down, got his legs “tangled”, and fell over the second he felt contact. He went fishing for a peno, and in my eyes, whenever an attacker goes fishing for a peno then it shouldn’t really count. Call me an old fashioned bastard if you want, but that is going against the “moral” of the game completely, namely it’s about scoring goals, not “winning” penalties._____________________________

31st December 2018 at 2:17 pm #30573The honours system has now been devalued to such an extent that they’re no longer worth anything. I mean to give one to Southgate for example is actually embarrassing. At the World Cup, England beat Tunisia and Panama, lost to Belgium (twice), beat Colombia in penalties, beat Sweden but then lost to Croatia (one of few decent teams they actually played). It’s a national embarrassment and to bring out a DVD to celebrate it called “Daring to Dream” is even more embarrassing.
It’s very simple. At the end of each year, you look to see if anyone deserves an honour – if there are no outstanding candidates, you don’t give out any honours for that year. Or the year after that if there are no candidates then. Only when someone actually deserves one should they get one. But honours are only issued now to people who are basically flavour of the month. But that’s where we are with it.
