Saw the Jam and the police when they toured together, had a good introduction to live music as my best mate at schools mum used to have a spare room that she rented out to university students, the entertainment secretary of the local uni had the room for 3 years, top lad who got us in to some amazing gigs.

Hamsters as we’ve talked about before were fantastic, was also a Yorkshire covers band called Engine, who were also fantastic live…..Pagan

Pagan, missed Engine what a shame. Yes I remember us talking about the Hamsters they played some great Hendrix stuff. The Hamsters Bassist was in Clapton’s touring band.

Hamsters, never knew what you were going to get, a ZZ Top set, a Hendricks set or a general blues rock set. Not only great musicians but everyday music lads, would talk about it at the bar, influences, equipment whatever.

Always thought your handle was to do with the band, now I know it’s not I’ll confess, I did have a 999 pin badge, but used to wear it upside down….Pagan

Was going through a lot of the old TOTP videos from the 80s and somebody commented making a sound point about possibly 1989 being some kind of black hole. A new wave struck and stuff from Stock Aitken and Waterman for example effectively disappeared. I think he was right – never really saw after that, anything for example from Duran Duran, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, etc.

In 1990/91, that would have been deemed as old-fashion against the new stuff coming through.
