Interesting comments… football fan first, club fan second and all that… I love my Spuds, love the game, and as I think I may have possibly mentioned on here before, there are certain teams I love to watch lose for a number of reasons and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that at all. I’ve got friends who are Goonies and I love taking the piss out of them when I can, as they do with me.
But I am in total agreement when it comes to the numpties who take the “hatred” side of things to the next level, with the violence and other disgusting behaviours. It is just a game, and a bloody silly game at that.

29th December 2018 at 11:40 am #30259I think you’re always going to struggle to remove the tribal element from football. It is by its nature, a tribal game – it’s “us vs them”. And add to that the passion of the game and it’s not surprising that it sometimes spills out into violence. As with most things, it all depends on how much you let it control you rather than the other way around. If you put some balance in your life and detach yourself from it all, only then can you see the wood for the trees and actually enjoy it. But to many, it’s a way of life and say to these people you’re going to miss a game and do something with the familiy and you’ll effectively be deemed blasphemous and “not a proper fan” and so this culture keeps feeding itself. It’s also not in a clubs interest to change these people. They’re worth too much money and the TV coverage also reflects this – they know many can’t live without it, hence all the increasing hours of live games, of pre match coverage, post match coverage, 24 hour sports news channels, etc. That said, official viewing figures are lower than they have been because everything is now pay per view and the lesser the availability of something, the fewer people will be drawn in. I’d therefore fully expect the TV companies to start offering lower priced streaming services to get more people in, in the not too distant future.
Again, all rooted in tempting us further in and making money out of people. And we all get caught up in it to some degree, as Brian said.

29th December 2018 at 12:52 pm #30260AnonymousI’ll be completely honest, as much as I love football. I’m a Liverpool fan first. This might be something that has been in a flux as a few years ago I got really into the game and would watch a lot more than just Liverpool but right now and the majority of the time, I’ve 95% watched Liverpool. Now, that’s not to say that I take up any hatred nonsense. It’s not a contradiction to say that I don’t get caught up in the tribalism, I don’t think. besides a bit of banter, of course.
Mikus lad, you’re dead right regards the lower priced streaming services. They aren’t getting with the times at all but maybe the numbers don’t add up for them (yet). If you offer a streaming service, you’re instantly chopping out a leg from under you. Of course, you’re potentially building yourself a nice new set of wheels instead, with a whole untapped market based on accessibility to exploit and potentially dominate. Due to the way licensing is done though, they aren’t under much pressure to get out of their conservative ways. It would be a risk for them, as you’re talking about many billions at stake.
I don’t pay any money to watch us play anymore. I don’t plan on returning for the cost either. Streams suck sometimes, I missed most of the Newcastle game because of them. How much would they have to charge in order to make a Netflix style streaming service worthwhile for both them and us? The more subscribers that you get for anything, the less you can charge but i think they are comfortable where theya re now, charging more to a smaller audience pool and that’s a shame.

29th December 2018 at 1:23 pm #30262All the current streaming services are illegal and not investing anything into the game which is why there’s no investment in them as those running them have no idea how long they can get away with it and Fans watching live streaming are contributing nothing to the game and subsequently nothing to the Club’s they follow.
Sky and BT have paid over £4b to screen live PL games from 2019 and Amazon Prime will start streaming live games from 2019 and the more fractured it all becomes the more expensive and more difficult it will be for fans to watch all the games they want too.
Ultimately as things develop it will probably be possible to watch every game your Club plays providing you subscribe to the right Channels but it will become increasingly more expensive and it already costs fans more to watch CL and EL games after Sky were outbid by BT for UEFA Club games and if you don’t have Amazon Prime that’s another £7.99 as it stands.
But then again it costs me a ton to watch a Chelsea game live these days taking everything into account. I guess you get what you pay for. I’m currently enjoying Rangers v Celtic live and it’s a good watch.

29th December 2018 at 2:28 pm #30265AnonymousI’m one of the idiots who have SkySports, BT sports and Amazon Prime which means I get to watch a load of football, but at a big price.Due to upcoming surgery which may mean an above knee amputation I have been unable to go to see Spurs play for the last 5 years.
I would give everthing I own for a day starting in the cafe for breakfast, on to The Bricklayers, The Billy Nic or The Antwerp Arms followed by the game. Win lose or draw it has to be a few beers after the game and a very unhealthy curry. The cost of that day with train fares would probably be £250/300 and it would be worth every single penny, there’s nothing like being there ._____________________________

29th December 2018 at 2:32 pm #30267Obviously living in Finland, my “access” is a little bit different… all I know it cost me about 15 funny-money a month for my package “Visset”, and I get just about everything I want, PREM (including 3 o’clock games, getting ready for the Spuds!) CHAMP, LA LIGA, BUNDASLIGA, the french one, Scots one, Big Ears and Little Ears, FA Cup, Micky Mouse Cup…
No Seria A though, which is a bit weird… all on my too large TV in HD TV Sport Mode…
Personally, reckon I’ve got a decent deal myself…

29th December 2018 at 2:38 pm #30270I use dazn which is 100% legal and has nearly all LFC games plus many more (seria A, la Liga, Usa, france, just about everywhere!)and lots of other sport. They call it the Netflix of sport and at only 10eur a month it’s great value too. Only problem for you lot is it’s only available in the German speaking countries, whilst I’m ok I guess you’d need a VPN, so not sure how that affects the legality.
Sadly next season I think they lose the premier league to sky.de. shame it really is a great service.
