Come on Paxton. Give it a rest with the Chelsea racism stuff. It’s obviously a very small section of the fanbase and Sarri rightly spoke out against them recently.

27th December 2018 at 12:40 pm #30154Nine, I never seem to recall Ferguson losing 3 out of 4 league games in a title challenging season and bemoaning injuries. Is Pep rotating enough? Also, if some of these players that are back aren’t quite ready yet why are they playing? I obviously don’t want to help City, but why isn’t he giving some of the youth players s chance?? What they might lack in quality they’d sure as hell make up for in passion and drive – something City could certainly do with at the moment.
Had City won their previous games I doubt many would have praised Pep for it and said “incredible results despite the injuries”. Yet he loses these games and the narrative is “oh but they have injuries to big players.” Sorry, that doesn’t wash with me.
There has been somewhat of a halo placed around the head of Pep in the media. He has all the resources he wants at City and is being paid a fortune to deal with tough situations. Regardless of whether City comeback over the next few games, he’s failed this recent test. And for the record, I could a arguably criticise Klopp for not using some more of the youth at times this season. If Liverpool suddenly lost some big players to injury part of me would ask, “why weren’t they rested more?” “Why wasn’t some of the youth promoted?” I think we all know the reason – managers just don’t want to take that risk in such a competitive environment. Yet, if they did, they’d soon see the wisdom in it, like Ferguson did. Indeed when Klopp was forced into fielding Origi a few weeks back, the response and impact was immediate. Yet, he’s no where to be seen again now because Klopp has reverted back to the “safety” of the established players. Also look at where developing players has got Pochettino.

27th December 2018 at 12:51 pm #30156Going to suggest utter chaos would have rained down upon the universe if Salah got banned for the next two matches (against Arsenal and City)… but it was a bit “soft” wasn’t it?

27th December 2018 at 12:51 pm #30157AnonymousFair enough. Sarri has spoken out about Chelsea fans being racist, that should consider the matter closed and Chelsea fans no longer racist. I’m sure kick it out will agree there is no longer a conversation to be had.

27th December 2018 at 1:15 pm #30160Paxton, that’s obviously not what I meant. All our clubs have a minority of idiots. I just don’t see the point in dragging up the same club’s every instance of trouble. Very little was said on here about the Spurs fan banned for throwing a banana at Aubameyang and I’m sure nobody thinks Spurs fans are racist because of that. Digging up every incident for one club on a general football forum is doing little to help the site. I really value your opinions on football and think you’re a great poster so I hope you take it in the spirit intended. Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year

27th December 2018 at 1:43 pm #30162Mikus, it’s well accepted in football mate that it can take previously injured players a bit of time to play their way back into form again especially those who have had long periods out through injury I think Klopp said something similar in relation to Salahs form in the first part of this season. Have a look at the Michael Antonio interview on Sky today where he says the same.
To be fair to Pep I haven’t heard him bemoaning the injuries. But he will certainly have to earn his corn if City are to get back to City challenging in the title race.
Football is all about opinions mate and if you don’t buy the injuries at City have impacted on their form that’s your opinion and I respect that even if I might have a different opinion to you.
I expect both Liverpool and City to win their respective games over the weekend which will set up a very interesting game at the Etihad next week that City will need to win imo if they are going to get back into the title race. Cheers 999

27th December 2018 at 2:03 pm #30164Nine, no worries mate. I don’t doubt the injuries will have had an impact, just saying that Fergie showed where the bar is when judging management and in the context of resources.

27th December 2018 at 2:08 pm #30165Mikus, you won’t get any disagreement from me there mate I think Fergie was probably the best Club Manager we’ve ever seen and we’re unlikely to see his like again. Cheers 999

27th December 2018 at 2:53 pm #30166Just for the record Salah DID dive as he has done a number of times. Just that the media fail to report it.

27th December 2018 at 3:45 pm #30168AnonymousI think you are correct, Sean, Salah conned the ref. Definite contact, but the reaction was simulated.
Shame really as he is a cracking player.
Lots of players do it, and in all teams too.

27th December 2018 at 3:58 pm #30169Chuky, the remark was made in response to Paxtons comment on City;s fans not knowing where they came from. I was reminding him that most City fans do remember when we did not have the money and other teams did. As to full backs, City did spend a lot on full backs but Mendy our LB has been out most of the season. Walker has been less than impressive all season, we have no other natural defenders apart from Danilo

27th December 2018 at 4:16 pm #30170Just a few thoughts on Salah. Look, I don’t doubt it looked a soft decision. But if that was your player, you know if they go down, they’ll probably win a penalty. There’s no point in trying to claim the moral high ground if everyone else is doing it and getting the decisions.
It can be incredibly difficult to judge whether contact was enough to bring someone down, particularly if they have momentum – like many things – knowing something and proving it are two completely different things. I do worry so much about VAR next season, I think it’s a pandora’s box rather than a silver bullet. Could an in game referee panel *prove* that Salah dived yesterday? If there’s anyone to blame yesterday, it’s the Newcastle player for trying to grab him. If Mo Salah is running in to your box with the ball, it’s already too late – your team has failed to defend properly – so any defending after that is always going to be last ditch and increasingly risky.

27th December 2018 at 4:59 pm #30172Every club gets penalties they shouldn’t and conversely doesn’t get penalties it should get. I was very near the incident at the game yesterday, and my instant reaction was that it was VERY soft, and having seen it again on TV, I was obviously right. But we haven’t been given a penalty in the league at home for 425 days, and there were many times in that period where we should have definitely been awarded a penalty, and in instances where it would have affected the ultimate outcome of the game. I think we can all agree that the penalty yesterday did not affect the ultimate outcome of the game. So yesterday went in our favour…I hope one goes in our favour at the Etihad next week as well!!

27th December 2018 at 5:31 pm #30173AnonymousEmery has now been charged with kicking the water bottle into the crowd. Should get a two match ban as this one actually hit someone.

27th December 2018 at 5:45 pm #30174AnonymousHH – it may not have affected the result yesterday but it may have affected the next two games had salah been rightly banned for both of them.

27th December 2018 at 5:47 pm #30175You know what, Sir Harry does, Dele does it, every single player in a Spud shirt does it, but what really makes a poster look like a complete tit is coming up with some utter bullshit about the how, why’s and wherefore’s. The clip of Salah diving is posted here for all to see.. it was a dive, pure and simple, and if you can’s see that, then for the love of all that is Spud related, I hope you don’t drive a car because you are obviously as blind as a bat!!!
Oh, and while I’m at it, Double B, we all know where City came from, we all know where you are, and we all know how you got there. If you’re offended by a bit of bantz when a City fan has the audacity to say on a public internet forum “we need to buy some more players because the hundreds of millions of pounds worth we already bought are rubbish”, the that’s the price you’re going to have to pay!! (See what I did there? 🙂 )
