Game at Wolves mellowed a bit.

12th November 2022 at 8:32 pm #200878You’d expect so Nine but we’ll have to see how patient Boehly is. If CL money starts to look harder and harder to come by, it will be interesting to see his resolve tested, especially if someone like Luis Enrique comes on the market after the World Cup as well as Pochettino still without a club.

12th November 2022 at 9:07 pm #200879The live table simply displays stats of a Title challenging team. Impressive if the lead can be held at Wolves.

12th November 2022 at 9:11 pm #200880No easy ride though; Tricky fixtures lie ahead for both teams after the WC and Xmas.
I firmly believe more points to be dropped and we’ll probably see ‘A’ title winning team hitting more towards the 79/80 point mark than anything ranging in the 90s.

12th November 2022 at 9:19 pm #200881The World Cup gives ample time for a takeover at Liverpool, who will then spend big in January and get the title sown up by March. Sorted.

12th November 2022 at 9:31 pm #200882Potter at Chelsea. Never understand why clubs who have been in and around the top in their recent history almost deliberately try to reinvent the wheel and be over clever by suddenly choosing a long term approach, the classic case being Moyes at Utd who lasted 10 months into a 6 year contract. Expectation is going to be instantly high because of Chelsea’s recent success and stature which inevitably puts that manager under huge pressure in dealing with that and the stature of a much bigger dressing room. There’s a time and a place for Potter at Chelsea. Just not sure this was it.

12th November 2022 at 9:45 pm #200885Potter reminds me of Rodger’s at Liverpool mikuis. Maybe took the job to early
Stevo, ye full credit to Arsenal. They have done brilliantly mate. I still think they will fall away as injuries to key players would really set them back

12th November 2022 at 9:49 pm #200886Mikus, those are the big shoes that need filling in because of the stature of those particular clubs and the successes achieved.
Expectations high.
In the same breath, for those managers such as your Brightons and Brentfords, what is the next career move and aspiration for them? These individuals need to be given a chance at least when these type of opportunities arise.

12th November 2022 at 9:59 pm #200888Nil, to answer your question of where next for Potter at Brighton – I think such managers need a “bridge the gap” club, wherever that may be. They’re probably better going abroad to a CL club, Dortmund being a good example, where there is that culture still of developing outstanding young players rather than instantly dealing with big budgets/egos to deliver success relatively quickly. Once you’ve then gained success more organically that way and started dealing with bigger players, you then have the tools to deliver at bigger clubs.

12th November 2022 at 10:41 pm #200889Whilst you may well be right Mikus, I think it’s just far too early to tell. Moyes was clearly the wrong man for the job at Utd and it was made worse by the fact he was following such a successful manager, one of the best ever. Potter coming in when the previous guy was sacked is not really comparible in that sense.
If Arteta can walk into a top PL job and do what he’s doing now, I don’t see any reason to write off Potter this early. People forget just how bad Arsenal were under Arteta for a long time.
I, just as you, happen to think Potter will struggle at Chelsea and will ultimately prove to be too big a job for him. But I think to write off his chances at this early stage is silly. At least he’s achieved relative success in his management career unlike the likes of Lampard and Arteta who just walked into top jobs.

12th November 2022 at 11:00 pm #200890I’m not necessarily writing him off Ed, just think it’s going to be a big struggle for him given the expectations and budget spent. There’s a lot of talk about a long term project but it’s pie in the sky if Chelsea don’t at least maintain their CL status. As for Arteta, Arsenal had been somewhat adrift for quite a few years before he came in and Wenger had established the club as one which developed young players into stars as opposed to a big club having to deliver straight away, so a long-term project was a much more feasible proposition. Also it is often forgotten that Arteta did win a trophy in his first season when he wasn’t expected to which also helped his cause.

13th November 2022 at 7:58 am #200892Nil, I will be amazed if Bellingham moves in January next Summer maybe but there will be a host of Clubs chasing him then including probably Real Madrid.

13th November 2022 at 8:01 am #200893This break comes with barely a third of the season gone plenty of time left when the PL returns for those currently enjoying success to muck up and those who may be struggling to improve.

13th November 2022 at 8:06 am #200894Ed, ultimately Managers are always judged on results and if Potter loses games after the return of the PL undoubtedly he will be skating on thin ice.
However with a number of key players returning from injury then and perhaps a signing or two I suspect we might see a different Chelsea then.🤞😊

13th November 2022 at 8:35 am #200895“Maybe some hope for the rest of us if Wolves can pull something off tonight.”
Credit to Arsenal Wolves didn’t but I’m guessing that was tongue in cheek Nil.😊
Liverpool are now 15 points behind Arsenal although like Sean I still don’t think when push comes to shove Arsenal will win the PL although they’ve done very well up to now and 10 points behind City.
I know that Liverpool pulled a lot of points back last season but there are no games in hand this time and Liverpool aren’t at the level they were last season although that could change and they are chasing 2 teams this season.
Realistically it looks like it’s just between Arsenal and City but I think after the World Cup could be interesting for everyone.
