8th December 2019 at 4:07 pm #56041Mak, had it on 5 live today mate although I was dipping in and out having had some stuff to do in the house.
Enjoyed Clinton Morrison’s summary and it makes a change from Gary Neville!
Leicester have to be taken seriously in my view. They look as though they have their name on at least one of these trophies, this season.

8th December 2019 at 6:26 pm #56053Now my ‘depression’ has lifted after yesterday’s game I thought it time to give my thoughts. Congrats to United, a thoroughly deserved win. Blitzed us on the break, especially first half (could easily have gone in at ht 3/4 up) and defended well in the second.
As for us, don’t think we played that badly overall but defending was dire. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but Fernandinho, although capable at CB, is far better in the holding MF role where he reads the game so well and gives protection to the back four – I’d have played Rodri alongside Stones. Angelino is garbage and Walker needs to relearn how to defend properly.
The big question is, why have United got results against the better sides and struggle against the ‘weaker’ teams? My take is that they have serious pace up front – Martial, Rashford, James – and when they play against teams that like to attack, they take advantage and can break with speed. They struggle against sides that like to sit back because they have very little in the way of creativity and when dominant in possession find it very tough to break teams down. If United want to be challenging for the big titles once again, this is the area they will have to look to make signings in._____________________________

8th December 2019 at 8:54 pm #56060I might be seeing things different but Walker looks cuties best defender
Recovery pace etc. The defence is left wide open. Silva is not the player he was and ferdhino is cities best centre back which says a lot
Heβs badly missed. Rodri is good but ferdhino is much better holding

8th December 2019 at 9:07 pm #56061Yeah Sean, you’re right, just watching the match again (went yesterday) I may have been a bit harsh on Walker. Hopefully Laporte is not too far off now and that should make a big difference; even Stones plays a lot better with a dominant CH alongside him

9th December 2019 at 3:31 am #56065AnonymousThere is a difference between saying that the league is over and that you think a team will win. I’ll be clearer than previously, I think Liverpool will win the league, finally. I will not take it for granted though. They have to keep this form and even luck going.
The odd thing about what made me come to this conclusion is more based on other teams than my own. I know our weaknesses. I see our old weaknesses in City though and also maybe Chelsea. It’s too hard to be definitive though and Chelsea may adapt. city may sort themselves out (I don’t think they will without spending).. It’s Leicester.
Such a dark, devastating horse. Nobody is really paying attention to them, yet they have 8 PL wins in a row now? I don’t think Liverpool can keep this pace (almost 100% performance FFS) and Leicester are not actually that far behind. They are happy in the shade, steady climbing.
I look at this Liverpool team and I’ve seen matches where we’ve barely gotten a result. A few times we were 5% better, or that we had the legs and mentality to get that late goal. The neutrals on here must be sick to their back teeth of us saying “it’s not over, it’s not over!”… for me, I do believe now, truly that we’re the best team in the PL and I will even say (excuse me if this seems arrogant but it’s such a rare claim to be able to make), the world.
With that belief, I still have the worry that it might change. That’s why I personally refuse to call any competition. I’m definitely not shying away or being coy about our chances, I have just seen the ebb and flow too many times. Best now could be 4th in February.
I will say that no matter what happens though, Klopp’s time here has been a roaring success. I know ye lads appreciate the Pl the most, I don’t. If we can win it this season, the CL will go back to being my most wanted. I can’t rentirely explain why but I think 2005 had a profound effect on me. I look at back Garcia’s goal against Juve, remembering this kind of “holy ****!!!.. somehow, we’re doig this!?”
The league is different, it’s slow, steady and consistent. It’s definitely got it’s charms and it’s probably harder to win in most ways but look at all the great sides who’ve won none or few CL’s..

9th December 2019 at 6:01 am #56066Leicester travel to City on the 21st, that’s going to be a very interesting game. Whilst there’s talk of City conceding the title I can’t imagine they will not give anything other than 100%. But can City cope with a red hot Vardy? I agree with Sean, for the way they play with a high line, Walker is “cuties” best defender.
What Leicester have done this season is pretty incredible and I’m guessing no one bar their most optimistic fan could of imagined it. But for them to take the title they need to keep this winning streak going and hope for a Liverpool collapse. It could happen, but it’s not looking likely.

9th December 2019 at 6:19 am #56067Jeez lads we are not even half way through the season & we travel to our nearest rival in the near future with only an 8 point gap between us & them. Whilst we are looking very good that Gerrard slip season & last season proved the title race is nowhere near over. It only takes a VVD injury &/or Mane getting injured & a dip in form to a couple of key players & that 8 point gap could be gone in a few games.
Granted Leicester would have to keep winning but they look very solid as well.
I thought the superior depth of city is why they got us last season & strangely I think that is where we maybe edge Leicester. If they lose Vardy or another key player they will struggle but they donβt have the amount of games we have either.
It will certainly be an interesting 2nd half of the season but itβs a long long way from being over.
By the way San Diego is an awesome place, been to LA, Sam Fran, Vegas & now San Diego & itβs by a long way my favourite place.
Take care all._____________________________

9th December 2019 at 6:45 am #56068AnonymousI guess I should have addressed one thing… Pep saying that City aren’t in the title anymore etc is an old line. The problem for him though is that i think it’s actually true this time. I’ve nothing but respect for him and I know that if he can get a winning run together then he can re-enter the title race but as things stand, no, City really are out of it. It’s kinda weird to say that…
On the other side of the coin, you can’t ignore a team that’s won 8 games in a row. Just imagine if our game against them had gone the other way, or been a draw then too? We nipped that one, just as we nipped the Chelsea match and a few others. If Arsenal were able to go on and be the invincibles, maybe we have a chance to be called the 5%ers cause we’ve cut it so close, so often.
Oz, I think you’re right regards to squads but it’s definitely worth noting City’s lack of depth at the back. I think we were all caught looking forward, including Pep. Let’s not pretend they haven’t been hammered by injury problems tho all the same. They definitely can not cope as well as I thought they would though. I think teams can sense the lack of getting absolutely destroyed and are taking the game to them.
no chickens counted here, just enjoying being a world class team, that I hope can make it over that 38 game line.

9th December 2019 at 6:56 am #56069Oz don’t think anyone is saying it’s over, well not LFC fans anyway, but we are able to discuss it whilst saying it’s looking good. Of course we could get an injury to a key player, any team can.
To summarise how I see it, for Leicester or City to win the league they would need to hit the sort of form City had in the 2nd part of last season AND Liverpool to show the sort of form they had about 4 years ago when they struggled to make top 4.
Agree San Diego is pretty good although popping over the border is scary!

9th December 2019 at 8:04 am #56071Leicester are a very good team and whilst they may have won 8 games in a row their unlikely to maintain that sort of form forever.
If we got to Boxing Day and Leicester were still 8 points behind or less and they then beat Liverpool at the King Power we might have a contest but I think it’s unlikely.
There’s only two things that can stop Liverpool winning the title now 1) Liverpool inexplicably “duck” it up from here.2) Liverpool suffer an injury crisis of City proportions and beyond.
I really can’t see the first happening they are a very experienced team now and used to the pressure after last season, the second would have to be a monumental injury crisis imo for it to have any real effect with City 14 points behind and looking a shadow of the team they were in previous seasons and Leicester currently punching probably above their weight.
Of course nobody can say it’s over not with 66 points still to play for but it would take a collapse of Newcastle type proportions for Liverpool not to win it from here.
