Nine, even knowing that players at the end of contracts can get more wages etc etc, I was still shocked to hear what Utd gave him. I never confirmed the figures because I don’t care enough but my eyebrows were definitely raised. With that though, it is definitely a bit rich coming from city and you are right of course, it’s gone mad in general. That’s capitalism though and not even the really bad side at all.
Aussie, I know how you feel man. It’s the weirdest thing ever for us to be in a record holding high position , points wise and to know that it will most likely be futile. I don’t just put it down to money though. I mean, money is potential and the more of it you have, the more potential you have. I had a theory about Pep. That theory was that he’d be found out in the PL. I was right*. By right, I of course mean that I found out just how good he is. He gives an incredible return on the vast potential that he wields. Take a look at the potential that Utd had and where that lead to… The same goes with Klopp. His signings and tactics could have gone horribly wrong.
To come extent we’ve got to concentrate on ourselves. We’ve got to keep winning and developing. We have more potential yet to extract from this team, 100%. City might go the season undefeated when there’s very little chance of us doing the same. I say that but we’ve both only conceded 5. I guess you need only look at the close call with Chelsea and City to see why I think we can’t do it.
We may have to though! That’s why you’re despondent and I totally get it. The media are already talking about the psychology of the situation. Pep has already said that City must keep winning, or Liverpool win the title. He has said those words. So, he’s thinking about this and you know his players are too. If we keep winning, these thoughts start creeping into their heads as they eat cereal in the morning.
We haven’t lost yet, all we’ve got to do is carry on getting these kind of results and you never know. One red card for City, one bad performance and we’re in their heads as they try to sleep.
Not expecting us to do it is a great weight off our shoulders. We definitely have the psychological advantage when it comes to the early and middle times. It’s in the late game where this will flip but to even get there, we’ve got to win the other times 😉

28th November 2018 at 9:14 am #28561Nine I totally agree. Wage levels are stupid but understanable. Anybody with any basic understanding of economics will understand. What workers get paid in a free market is determined primarily on revenues and profits of the firm that employs them. Generally other parts of the wage theory is that if you raise the salary of the last employee you will have to raise it for all.
Also if you try to interfear in the market that market becomes disfunctioal. ….FFP etc.Bottom line ITS OUR FAULT. We subscribe to Sky and BT as do those from overseas. I take the point that all this is a statement of the obvious hence there is no point us moaning except on moral grounds.
One of the oldest basic essay questions used to be why does a pop star get paid more than a brain surgeon or why does x in a vital job get paid less than y in a non vital job. In the end its about revenues added to the firm. There are also some non monetary aspects._____________________________

Alfie one of the most famous HMRC cases was in respect of image rights paid by Utd to a company set up in the IOM to “employ” Wayne Rooney. Ditto with Gareth Barry. Perfectly legal but highly questionable. The upshot wax that they paid 2% tax on this.
Looking at Wayne Rooney…..image rights…no Brad Pitt!_____________________________

28th November 2018 at 10:40 am #28564AnonymousAdlab, you are missing the point. I am not questing the legality of what City did. I am saying that the image rights are not part of the City accounts, and that the £260m figure the BBC quote is therefore not comparable with the figure for Utd – as Utd’s does include the image rights (and also the hundreds of background staff also employed by the club). You are not comparing apples with apples.
You have brought up wages and tried to score points off of the back of it, I’m just correcting you.

28th November 2018 at 11:01 am #28565Mak I used to have a theory on Pep as well, that being he only manages clubs with the most money. That was until I watched a video on how Klopp came up with a plan to beat c$ty & Pep figured out what he was doing so changed his tactics to combat it. He is one smart cookie & when u combine a genuine top manager like him with a squad others can only dream of & unlimited funds, there’s only going to be one winner of the EPL for the foreseeable future.
I know the c$ty lads on here are trying to downplay it & are not getting ahead of themselves but reality is they are not likely to be really challenged in the near future. Maybe only concentrating on the C/L could do it but their squad is so big in quality I don’t think even that will halt their dominance._____________________________

28th November 2018 at 11:17 am #28566AnonymousIt’s rare that I’ll see a post that i have been in line with so much. exactly that. I thought Pep would be found out because his history shows that he’s gone to leagues with incredibly dominant clubs. His first season in the Pl looked to be proving me correct, as they didnt really do much better than us. was it 1-2 points? he had incredible resources behind him then but what he’s sicne done is he’s turned City from being a wealth of talent, into a golden age level team. I’ve put that in bold because it’s a big statement that I don’t say lightly.
Again, you’re dead right about the City lads on here, they are being well mannered and not counting their chickens but we all know , in the back of our mind that the title is 70-80% going to City. The remaining 20-30% is shared amongst the other 3 and sure, Liverpool more than the others but … everyone will be shocked if it doesn’t go to City.
With all of that said though, I’m not completely writing us off. As long as we’re in the conversation, we’ve got to have some belief that the incredible is possible but make no mistake of it, it’ll be a very very VERY special team that wins the PL this season.
Is it a shame that we’ve come along with our really good team at the same time? Absolutely, if you want to be negative about it (I will be sometimes) but at least it’s happened. We’ve got more to go for sure and if we can run them close I’ll probably be happy. Obviously we need to win some silverware but really, any sense of progress will do. Whatever keeps us moving forward is a good thing.
Now, as for tonight… I’m actually starting to get excited about it already. I don’t like the position that we’ve put ourselves in but I love these European nights. I don’t want them to end is all. The lads have got to go out there and play like Champions to be Champions. it’s totally up to them.
In 05 we made a meal of the group stage too and if we’ve had our shock here then great. I don’t want to need to beat Napoli by X goals at Anfield in the final game but it is mighty familiar stuff! haha Maybe the non-Liverpool fans won’t have those memories but holy hell.. I’m waffling on now at this stage. Let’s beat the piss out of the Fralacticos *coined)* in their own yard!
We’ve been kings of Europe many times, these bank account upstarts will have to go through us. GGRRRRR

28th November 2018 at 3:03 pm #28567Liverpool have every chance of winning to night, I think more will depend on there up and coming youngsters performances than Salah or Mane.
Mak, at this time of the season the season I would not put our chances higher than 50/50 When Mid February comes round I may review that.
I am happy at 50/50 because I know we have a good squad , what I do not know is injuries, loss of form etc etc and they are big parts of any optimism I may feel_____________________________

28th November 2018 at 3:20 pm #2856950/50 Brian? 🙂
I guess it’s 50/50 as its either City or Liverpool but City aren’t massive odds on favourites for nothing.

28th November 2018 at 5:36 pm #28572AnonymousIf you could take 50/50 odds (not betting but actual odds of it happening), you’d take them right now?
Not a chance in hell. City definitely have more than a 50% chance of retaining the title.

28th November 2018 at 7:53 pm #28580Well guys, as you can all see, I am not a betting man, more a realist and I am surprised if you cannot see Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs or Arsenal takeing points off City, keeping in mind we are only 2 points in front. I want City to win but I see a fight to the end this season and I am not takeing any game as a win. City can be beaten and we will loose, we are not unbeatable, it is up to other teams how they progress. I will be pleased to see DeBruyne and Bernando back though
Pragmatic maybe but it is my honest opinion as well_____________________________

28th November 2018 at 7:55 pm #28581AnonymousI’m not saying it’s impossible or that we can’t take points of City (although I think it’s extremely difficult). I just need to be convinced. City losing a game soon, with us on a winning streak might help 😉

28th November 2018 at 7:57 pm #28582Double B… it’s possible that another Top 6 side might take points of City, granted, but I think the issue is simply City are going to steam roll everybody else, whereas all the other Top6 sides are more than capable of slipping up during those games.
Your mob may not win as “quickly” as you did last year, I reckon it will be all wrapped up with at least 3 games to spare and probably “all over bar the shouting” with about 6 games to go…
