Sean, you’re right Chelsea have tried to sign Koulibaly several times but it’s impossible to deal with De Laurentis and the prices quoted were ridiculous.
You’re right imo re Thiago Silva but PSG won’t sell and he’s 35.
Jose messed up on Ake we should never have sold him if Chelsea want to strengthen the Centre Back area and J think they might we could do a lot worse than Ake and allegedly they have a ยฃ40m buy back clause.

25th November 2019 at 8:55 am #54176That picture of SAF and Woodward with the captions has had me smiling all morning. Even the other half thought it was funny! Well done.
However Maguire isnt ยฃ80m, I wish we had him right now!_____________________________

25th November 2019 at 9:05 am #54177City could do worse then Johnny Evans adlab
Heโs 31 but he could fill a gap until the summer.
Heโs playing very well

25th November 2019 at 11:51 am #54200Maguire would have helped City, no doubt. But would he have been a regular under Pep? Not for me. I suspect that, as well as the money, was why Pep couldnโt ultimately justify going for him, and heโd rather take a hit in the short term and wait to find someone more suitable.

25th November 2019 at 12:02 pm #54202As I said yesterday I don’t understand the obsession with Maguire at all. Is he worth ยฃ80mil. No. Is he as good as Vvd? Course not.
It just amazes me that with all Utd’s awful performances this season, Maguire is the one singled out. He’s been easily one of Utd’s best players this season. Anyone who has seen all Utd’s games would see that. Jones, Perreira, Lingard, Shaw. I mean you’re not short of awful performers to pick from if you want to have a go at Utd players. In comparison to 90% of the squad, Maguire has been a revelation.
All this “Koulibaly is a beast. He is so powerful and bosses Serie A” is exactly the type of stuff we all fell for regarding Pogba, who has been so inconsistent. There are so many things wrong with Utd but Maguire is not one of them.
Maguire would walk into City’s team. He’s a huge step up on Stones.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t for a minute think Maguire is one of the best CBs around but given the options we had available he was easily the best we could get.
Jonny Evans is quality. The Utd fans were saying this for years and were constantly mocked for backing him. He should have never been sold by Utd IMO.

25th November 2019 at 12:13 pm #54203Everyone used to do the same when we had Lukaku. “He’s not as good as Harry Kane you know!”. Just a completely pointless comparison considering we couldn’t get Harry Kane anyway as we didn’t have ยฃ300mil burning a hole in our pocket. So we got rid of Romelu “not as good as Kane” Lukaku and he starts banging the goals in in Italy. Guess what? We still don’t have a striker as good as Kane!
Maguire massively improved Utd’s back line of Smalling and Jones and a credible, affordable alternative has yet to be suggested.

25th November 2019 at 12:13 pm #54204theres no obsession Ed. I tvibk his average performances have gone under the radar. Your saying heโs been one of utds beat players and thatโs not hard considering how awful they have been
Leicester are actually better at the back now without Maguire and donโt miss him one bit.
He would walk into the city team but then so would a lot of centre halves at the minute as they are playing a central midfielder there.
Iโve given my reasons why I tvibk heโs been average. You donโt agree itโs fine. Iโd left this debate about 24 hours but you brought it back up.

25th November 2019 at 12:16 pm #54206I donโt see how he has massively improved it Ed. Utd are still conceding soft goals with him in there.
What has he actually done thatโs outstanding?

25th November 2019 at 12:19 pm #54207Ed, what I will say with Maguire is this – now that you have bought him – sort of similar to the Henderson situation at Liverpool, he may not be top quality, but heโll put a shift in and will probably become an important player for you from a team ethic point of view. But as you allude to, you should never have really been in such a situation.

25th November 2019 at 12:20 pm #54208Sean, I didn’t bring anything back up. Been plenty of Maguire posts since you stopped posting about him.
But yeah no worries Sean. Agree to disagree and all that!

25th November 2019 at 12:27 pm #54210Sean, when you’ve got the likes of Phil Jones beside you and Ashley Young playing full back, there’s only so much you can do. He can’t do it all on his own. It’s Ole I blame for us being poor defensively, certainly not Maguire of all the players I could point a finger at, that’s for sure.
I mean, literally the two most successful managers in world football have desperately wanted to sign him over the last 12 months despite having the whole of the football World Market to select from. It’s quite an endorsement regardless of what any of us think

25th November 2019 at 12:40 pm #54212Ye true but pep signed John stones aswell
Phil Jones has hardly played this season. Heโs had lindolf and a 50m right full
And one of the best keepers in the world along side himI see what you are saying. These managers know a lot more then me. Just my observation

25th November 2019 at 12:52 pm #54214what i find crazy is keeping the perrinially injured Bailey, Rojo, Shaw, Young, Jones, Lindelof (and in some cases offer big new contracts to) then loan/sell the best defender you had pre McGuire in Smalling (not just based on current form for Roma!) i think if it had been him and HM at CB with AWB at RB and the young lad at LB the defense and HM ability to improve that unit as a unit would have been increased. to be fair we have a number of CB’s at our club and your welcome to just about all of them! call it a christmas present from me ๐

25th November 2019 at 12:56 pm #54215big difference in these players tho sean…john stones was brought for stupid money (more than McGire with inflation of footy fees IMHO) but was touted as young for the future great potential so they paid and outbid a few clubs as he was big news but not really proven and all he since proven is to be injured and full of mistakes…all managers even the very very very best (including Klopp) dont get it right every time….
of available CBs in the summer HM was concidered by all top teams and had performed well for Leicester including winning the PL and the doing very well for England, he is a no brainer as a very decent time proven CB…but you change clubs and play with dross and coached bad and players are down its not so easy maybe..id take HM in our team in heartbeat, but then we are worse off than united in defense!_____________________________

25th November 2019 at 1:01 pm #54217Stevo havenโt checked but Iโm nearly sure maguire wasnโt part of the Leicester team that won the pl mate
Morgan and Huth at the back?
Maguire had a good World Cup but who did England actually play that would be considered a world class team apart from Croatia
Heโs over hyped because hes English. Just like stones was

25th November 2019 at 1:03 pm #54219Pretty sure Slabhead went all Foxy Lady the season after they won the Prem, seem to remember Huth and Morgan being the main men the year they won the title… might be wrong, can’t be asked to Google.

25th November 2019 at 1:04 pm #54221You would think I was saying he was rubbish the way some are going on. I think heโs average and Iโm not comparing him to vvd.
Iโve given my reasons guys. Iโm repeating myself so Iโll leave it there. Itโs fine. Just my opinion at the end of the day
