Gary Lineker slams VAR after Raheem Sterling’s disallowed goal for Man City against Chelsea
https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/news/gary-lineker-var-chelsea-sterling-17308240
Have a look …I know its old ground and it didnt affect the result. How is Sterling offside?
Thats what happens when you complain about Oliver. At least levelWe dont seem to get one decision. I wonder why that is?

24th November 2019 at 2:17 pm #53941Adlab, you’ve got to drop this poor us nonsense it was clearly a silly decision but according to the rules Sterling was offside what needs to happen is for the rules to be amended.
Something like a whole foot/ head must be in an offside position until that happens we will continue to get these decisions. Chelsea had a goal ruled out because a few minutes earlier to the goal being scored part of Mounts heel was ruled to be offside so it’s not just City!

24th November 2019 at 2:21 pm #53942Adlab, simple answer, the pictures showed he was offside, and as has happened consistently this season the goal was disallowed.
For me you have to question the accuracy of the system to be able to determine to that degree whether he was or not as the frame rate is not fast enough and itβs only a best guess when the ball is actually played forward.
For me we need to get rid of lmicro analysisβ and βclear and obviousβ, and use βwould you reasonably expect the officials to get that decision right with one look at normal speedβ
Letβs just get rid of the howlers….Pagan

24th November 2019 at 2:28 pm #53943It doesn’t make up for losing the game but it was a better performance than Chelsea’s last visit to the Etihad.? And a small crumb of comfort that no team has ever been able to do the below to a Pep team previously.
“However, although City ultimately emerged victorious against their big-six rivals, they were out-passed by Frank Lampardβs men.
The home team registered only 46.74% possession, the lowest figure ever recorded by a side coached by Guardiola in any of his 381 top-flight games as a manager.
That includes his 127 Premier League matches in charge of City, as well as 152 La Liga outings as Barcelona boss and 102 Bundesliga contests while at the helm of Bayern Munich.
And Guardiola was quick to hail Chelsea and Lampard for their approach to the game, even though they left the Etihad empty-handed.
“There is always one thing in your lifetime that has not happened β it happened,” he told reporters when the statistic was put to him after the match.
“So, OK, I have another record, I won one game without possession. They are an incredible team with Kante, [Mateo] Kovacic, Jorginho, so it can happen.
“They are so good, they are an incredible team. It’s Chelsea. Football is becoming like this. Most teams and young managers have spirit and nothing to lose. That’s why the football is nice. Chelsea are playing incredibly well.β

24th November 2019 at 2:33 pm #53944Regarding Silva at Everton, donβt forget that to bring him in to Everton, they first had to pay off Allardyce Β£6 million. They then had to compensate Watford Β£4 million. If they sack Silva who is contracted to 2021, theyβll have to pay him off about another Β£6 million. If you include Silvaβs current salary for the last year, thatβs another Β£3 million spent. So Β£20 million potentially thrown around over the last year. For what exactly?

24th November 2019 at 2:37 pm #539459, not a big believer of stats, βlies, damn lies and statisticsβ and all that, but I had no sporting commitments yesterday evening I got to watch the game on the box. The big positive is we were never out of the game, and there was nothing really between the sides…..Pagan

24th November 2019 at 2:38 pm #53946That’s all true Mikus but it happens and if Everton decide he’s no longer right for them and they must be getting close to that if they’re not already there then they will pull the trigger.

24th November 2019 at 2:45 pm #53947And thatβs the interesting thing isnβt it Nine? When bankers reward themselves for failure, thereβs outrage. But in football, fans just shrug their shoulders and say these things happen. Strange.

24th November 2019 at 2:47 pm #53950Pagan. You hit it on the head. Perfect point. We have to get rid of tbe micro-analysis. Itz spoiling the game. To everybody that is level….not as you rightly say a “clear and obvious error”. Enough, I’m fed up of it. More lies than in the pre-election nonsense.
Todays games. A Utd win 2-0. ManU that is! Will Poch be there?

24th November 2019 at 2:49 pm #53951Again a great point Mikus. Football doesnt follow the normal rules. It relies on tribalism.

24th November 2019 at 3:13 pm #53952Mikus, if a Manager is not successful they get the sack that’s par for the course and that’s got nothing to do with the fans that’s down to the owners of the Club. That’s what happened when Liverpool sacked Brendan Rodgers who nearly won Liverpool the PL title and appointed JΓΌrgen Klopp.
The fans don’t get a say in these decisions and Managers are very well rewarded and paid enormous compensation when it goes wrong.
What happens to Marco Silva has nothing to do with me but I think I’m smart enough to realise he’s in trouble and faces a very tough run of fixtures and that he’s going to do very well to hang in there at Everton if he doesn’t go on a winning run.
I certainly wouldn’t put any money on him still being there post Christmas but if results begin to fall his way he’s got a chance if not …..!

24th November 2019 at 3:17 pm #53953Offside is not judged on whether it’s a clear and obvious error it’s judged on whether a part f the body is over the lines that VAR use to decide whether a player is offside or not.
The decision on the Sterling goal last night was harsh just as previous decisions in similar circumstances were harsh but that won’t change until greater tolerances are written in to the current offside rules that VAR is operating too.

24th November 2019 at 3:26 pm #539569, just out of interest do you believe that the current system is accurate enough to rule that you are sure that the decision for offside is right…..Pagan

24th November 2019 at 3:30 pm #53957Yes but the fans of the club are still very much connected to everything and ultimately are the ones pressuring the board to make changes and decisions. As Adlab said itβs ultimately tribalism, which in turn causes irrational behaviour in the constant pursuit of success. And if big bucks gets blown, so be it.

24th November 2019 at 4:37 pm #53960It was a good game of football. Two proper teams and two proper managers.
Just watching Utd here. Thoughts, Jones and Otemendi as a CB pairing.?!

24th November 2019 at 4:44 pm #53961With respect Mikus Everton are 3 points off of the bottom 3 and in a relegation battle to the Everton Boards credit they’ve stuck with Silva up to now despite the disappointing results but they have a duty of care to the Club and that can’t go on for ever. That’s not about tribalism mate that’s about survival!

24th November 2019 at 4:50 pm #53964Pagan@3:26pm Pagan, Nope!
That’s why I’ve said that there needs to be a greater tolerance built in for the VAR like a whole foot being offside.
