“A 9 point lead is still not a huge gap in nov. If we were 20 points clear I still wouldn’t be confident ”
I have thought about this previously. I didn’t come to this conclusion before, even though we talked about a hypothetical 20 point lead. I’m just uncomfortable considering any league scenario over, before it’s even half way. For the same of discussion though and nothing else, I will say that if we were to magically have a 20 point league, I would call the title. By calling it, I mean that any losing position from that is 100% bottling/throwing it away.
9 points though is just a nice buffer but as Threeps says, we need to forget the gap and take it game by game. I hope the players forget potential totals and just go in with blinders on. 3 points up for grabs? Get the 3 points and move on to the preparation for the next opportunity to get 3 more points. Too much focus on a gap offers fear when results are going one way and complacency when they are going another way.
I want nothing more than a win against City. If we play for the draw, I’ll be incredibly disappointed.

8th November 2019 at 4:09 pm #52125Draw wouldn’t be a bad result from our point of view but naturally a win would be Fab ⚽️⚽️⚽️??

8th November 2019 at 5:18 pm #52127Sean, you just never know but Pep usually plays it with a straight bat we’ll see.
If Bravo plays which currently looks most likely he could be a disaster or he could be MOM you just never know in these circumstances.
But City stripped of their No 1 Keeper, best Centre back and their most accomplished defensive midfield player weakens them enormously defensively.

9th November 2019 at 4:11 am #52138AnonymousNine, in fairness, they havent been stripped of their defensive midfielder. They have refused to sign adequate cover for the CBs, putting themselves in this position.
Before I go to bed though, I’m gonna say this. There are 4 teams in the title race, not 2.

9th November 2019 at 6:12 am #52139AnonymousChelsea or Leicester though not far behind now will not be able to sustain a challenge on Liverpool or City neither will any other club therefore it will be better for City to win this game for competition sake in the EPL run up.

9th November 2019 at 8:15 am #52142Mak, you’re right City should have signed another Centre Back especially after losing Kompany and I think that was a big error by Pep.
But City losing their No 1 Keeper, No 1 Centre Back and No 1 Defensive Midfielder in Ederson, Laporte and Rodri all to injury does leave them frail defensively especially v Liverpool at Anfield. Just my opinion buddie.
From a neutrals perspective it’s a shame because when these big games come around I always like to see both Club’s take each other on when both are at full strength but that’s football.
I would love you to be right about 4 teams in the title race and a draw would make things more interesting but at the end of the day I think it will come down to a straight fight between City and Liverpool and if Liverpool win on Sunday and I think they might given all City’s injuries and they can get through December with a reasonable lead I think they will take some stopping. Again just my opinion buddie. Enjoy your weekend. Cheers 9’s

9th November 2019 at 8:16 am #52143Didn’t watch the game but an important win for Watford last night I’m sure they’ll be ok in the end and with Deeney back and fully fit.

9th November 2019 at 9:49 am #52146Its a shame we have so many key injuries for tomorrows game. Spoils the event but good luck for Liverpool.
No:
Ederson
Laporte
Zinchenko
Rodrigo
Silva and
Sane
with Aguero carrying an injuryTake the equivalent out of Liverpool:
Allison
VVD
Robertson
Henderson or Fabhino whoever plays defensive midfield
Firmino or whoever is attacking midfield
Salah
With Mane carrying an injuryPity. I would much rather see both teams at full strength.
Weve no chance particularly with Bravo in goal.

9th November 2019 at 11:52 am #52154Anonymous“But City losing their No 1 Keeper, No 1 Centre Back and No 1 Defensive Midfielder in Ederson, Laporte and Rodri all to injury does leave them frail defensively especially v Liverpool at Anfield. Just my opinion buddie.”
I definitely didn’t mean to take anything away from their huge injury problems. Laporte for me is the big one, he’s their Van Dijk. With Gomez a shadow of his former self (so far), this would be a catastrophic loss for Liverpool, who, let’s also be honest, have lost an absolutely massive player for us, Matip. This, like Gomez’s fall in form, is like the reverse of it, as Matip has been almost as good as Van Dijk and even better in some games. You might know exactly what I’m talking about because without Matip and Adrian, you take the 3 points we fought over, instead of us.
It is this part of your comment that I will narrow in on : “and No 1 Defensive Midfielder in Ederson”
Is this a mistake, or a kinda tip of the cap to his ability to sweep up problems? Maybe you meant to right Rodri there but Fernandinho is their best DM surely? My problem about all of this is the self-made problem of losing Fernandinho where he is most useful. If there has been a development that I’m unaware of here then apologies, I have just gotten out of bed (couldnt sleep last night) and I havent had my coffee yet.
When I do though, I have a short statement to make that i know you’ll all disagree with 😉

9th November 2019 at 12:10 pm #52156AnonymousAdlab, injuries have definitely been unfair on you lads but it’s not quite plain sailing for us.
Matip is a massive loss for us. He was instrumental in us winning the CL and also key PL matches. He’s not a big name but his form has been truly amazing over the last 6 months or so.
Gomez though, may be fit but he hasn’t recovered from last seasons injury. Before that he was maybe as good as Van Dijk, as an individual CB (as in not guiding others). He’s poor so far this season and can’t even start ahead of Lovren, who has a goal in him (for the opposition).
Fabinho will play DM, nobody else. I fell out with everyone on Teamtalk over Hendo as a DM and maybe the Liverpool lads on here will say that I have not been proven correct but in my mind , I have. Hendo will play as an 8 if he plays today.
Salah has maybe finally recovered from the bad tackle he recieved against Leicester but if you saw him against Genk, he looked so down and out. He worked his ass off, had some LOVELY touches but his shooting was some of the worst I’ve ever seen from him. His confidence is very very low.
I didn’t know Mane was carrying an injury but maybe you meant Salah.
We’re also short of Shaqiri, who you might laugh at…and kinda rightly so, as Klopp doesn’t really rate him but he’s a big game player. Everyone remembers the time Liverpool had to come back from a 3-0 loss in Barcelona but not many remmber that we had to do it without Firmino and Salah. So Shaqiri was in there and instrumental. He also scored 2 against Utd. So, although he’s not on the same list as the players you’;ve lost. He’s an option we won’t have on the bench, if you lads are winning.
Now finally, for whatever reason, Liverpool have been leaking chances, not so much goals but chances. We’re letting the opposition through way too much this season and I know Pep has spotted this. he will exploit this so don’t be down and out, we’re not as good as the table suggests. We’re not playing well.

9th November 2019 at 12:22 pm #52158AnonymousMoos, if you think that a 9 point lead this early in the season would be bad for the PL title race, are you suggesting that you think that would be that? Just curious because as a Liverpool fan, having seen the way City can string win after win after win together, while playing to a very high standard,I just don’t feel that way.
Secondly, I think it’s time that we stopped talking about the great football that Chelsea and Leicester are playing and look where it’s got them. Liverpool have already played and barely beaten Chelsea this season, that’s the only reason they are even behind City in the first place.
The “statement” I wanted to make, was one that was mostly already made before I went to bed but… Chelsea are 2 games away from finally being recognized as title contenders. Leicester, maybe just 1 game, as I think they’ll destroy Arsenal. For Chelsea, they’ve got that incredibly tough game against City and maybe for the media to start talking about the top 4 instead of the top 2, a Liverpool win in that regard is not best. Perhaps this is what you meant Moos.
Last season I made some bold remarks regards Chelsea and was hilariously wrong but they were playing within themselves under Sarri. That is gone and they have a fresh batch of exciting players. Their one man, in Hazard is gone and Jorginho is now just a normal player . I think under Sarri, he played everythign through this guy and it was hurting the team. Correct me if I’m wide of the mark there Chelsea lads but ya, like it or not, you’re within touching distance of City and you might be ahead of them in a weeks time.

Just saying I would like to see the game with both teams at full strength.
Then assuming no bad decisions we would have had a top game. Tomorrow with Bravo in goal…well!_____________________________

9th November 2019 at 12:39 pm #52163AnonymousAdlab, me too. I’m not saying that you’re not weakened by these injuries to important players but you have enough quality available to beat any team in the world, on your day. As I said above, we smashed the crap out of Barca 4-0 without Firmino and Salah. These are 2 players who you would think would be essential and on paper, your chances go down from not having thme but football is a funny old sport.
I totally agree though, both teams at full strength would be better, for both but more for ye lads.

9th November 2019 at 12:45 pm #52164Bravo might have the game of his life
Adlab. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see ederson startingAdlab city have every chance with kdb, sterling, Aguero and Bernardo Silva. Be no suprise to see David Silva start with gundogan, kdb with sterling left and Bernardo silva right. That’s some midfield but no doubt city are missing absolutely key players. Huge loss to them.
It’s a missed chance for us tomorrow if we don’t win considering cities injuries
People expected us to blow utd away and that didn’t happen
It’s going to be a very very tough game
