I said in September that Morata is not good enough striker and can’t fill Costa shoes. i was slated at the time, well tonight may be that vindication for me. the number of chances he has missed in our last two games is crazy. and when you take the lead and Arsenal opens up spaces. its not that you defend too deep. go out and attack them. even Mustafi was in the box to attack. that is ridiculous. defend and defend when you have such talent. frustration is boiling. this team deserves better than. Bakayoko played full 90 are you serious? and we kept Pedro out of the team sums up Conte’s mentality on the night. he wanted only a point and not the 3.

3rd January 2018 at 10:30 pm #10993Given some of the shambolic decisions the past few weeks that were accepted as Penalties by the panel. The Hazard incident was a penalty as Belerin definitely caught him.

3rd January 2018 at 10:43 pm #10994Whether it was a penalty or not is a non issue. it was a game where we would have won if we had a proper no 9. we have created enough decent chances. but the man that was tasked to put them have missed them. its not one, two can you imagine? its three one on one chances with the keeper? and he failed to put them on target?

4th January 2018 at 12:16 am #10996Wfan,Morata and Costa are two very different players although Morata is definitely off his game and missed too many chances tonight and that is something he has got to work on and his confidence is down too which is something Conte needs to work on.
14 goals and 4 assists in 32 games is not too shabby though and compares favourably with Costa’s 20 goals and 7 assists from 42 games last season.
The one positive in respect of Morata is that he’s still getting himself into positions to score.
Chelsea’s 19 shots v Arsenal’s 14 shots also suggests Chelsea did a bit more than defend and defend.

4th January 2018 at 12:24 am #10998Conte on the game:βIt was an exciting game for the people who watch,β began Conte before adding, βless so for us because when you are winning 2-1 and there are two minutes to go, we have to win the game, especially against a great team like Arsenal. A 2-2 draw against Arsenal at Emirates could be a good result but after the game there is a lot of disappointment because we created important chances.
βFor sure I know also in my players there is a lot of disappointment and for sure my feeling is the same as my players. It was a good performance and we played with good intensity, like Arsenal did and it was an exciting game, but at the same time we must be a bit disappointed with the final result because to get three points today was very important.β
Conte on Morata: βThis is not a lucky period for him because at the last game versus Stoke I said it is very important for the striker to have the chance to score, and here today he had chances to score but it is football. I am very happy for his commitment and his effort for the team, this is the most important for me but for the striker it is important to score because then your confidence is up. In this case his confidence can do down but he is very young and he has to continue to work to improve and he will see that the goal is coming.
βThe only things I can tell him are to stay calm and continue to work in this way for the team because then the chances will arrive for him and for the other players. This is the first season he is playing with regularity. He has to stay calm and to continue to play in this way and the goal is coming.β

4th January 2018 at 5:30 am #11000AnonymousWe had so many chances so you cannot say Conte played for a draw. A draw against Arsenal feels like a loss. Chelsea need to buy a proper striker quick, Batsyui must go on loan and Morata must be benched as the reserve striker, even I could have easily gotten a hatrick with the same opportunities

4th January 2018 at 8:00 am #11003A common pattern on Arsenal-Leicester, Arsenal-Liverpool and Arsenal-Chelsea: all ended in a draw and the away team at one point were in a winning position. It may bring excitement, but that would annoy me if I was an Arsenal supporter.
And from an away team point of view, that would feel like 2 points dropped.

4th January 2018 at 8:34 am #11004Chelsea donβt go gung ho but they have hazard who is always an outlet
I thought it was a negative move by Conte to bring Drinkwater on at 1-1 as Fabregas was excellent but Chelsea kept hitting aresnal on the break. They really should have won but both teams had great chances and both keepers were excellent
Brilliant game to watch. It had everything. Chelsea are an excellent side. Such a strong spine and moroata has had a very good start to life in the pl. bad game alright but letβs not go overboard. Heβs done very well so far and is in line for 20 goals this season
Best Iβve seen Ozil play for a while. Aresnal were all over the place at the beck but they played some great stuff

4th January 2018 at 9:57 am #11006Sean, very frustrating from a Chelsea viewpoint because as you say it was a game Chelsea should have won.
I also thought Bakayoko should have come off for Drinkwater rather than Cesc.
A draw at the Emirates is a decent result but it felt a bit like a defeat last night.

4th January 2018 at 4:16 pm #11013Great match last night, so glad there was no VAR, made the match what it was
Had VAR been in operation, Whiltshre would probably have got a second yellow, Arsenal would have sat back and tried to get the 0-0 and it wouldnβt have been the game it was….Pagan

4th January 2018 at 8:28 pm #11021The problem is that of late, there has truthfully been wrong decisions made. This affects the supporters faith and confidence in Referees and whether a fair game can be delivered.
Not easy at the moment to take at face-value.

4th January 2018 at 8:41 pm #11023Refs are human and will make mistakes with decisions that they get to make in seconds that we all get to analyse 100 times from every angle and in slo mo over and over.
Mistakes by officials have always been there the difference is that every game is now covered by TV and all of the mistakes are over amplified and over shown including all the controversial moments that appear every 30 minutes on Sky Sports News.

4th January 2018 at 8:45 pm #11024Yes I can justify it, I didnt day it was right though. I think if Arsenal had gone down to 10 it would have ended up 0-0
Just saying itβs going to increase the number of sendings off as the refs will blow for everything as they can get the chance for a second look. Which may lead to duller games.
Personally prefer retrospective punishment providing itβs a better system than the current one….Pagan

4th January 2018 at 8:54 pm #11027AnonymousBanjo – this is where spurs havenβt improved where they need to. We canβt break down a team that defends. All the other big teams manage it.

4th January 2018 at 9:00 pm #11028Nine agree with you there re the Media outlets and delivering excessive coverage. There’s a mixture of them doing this for their own agenda naturally to attract the tweets, viewers etc and to try and project a message for officials out there in the game to take notice.
Whatever’s been going on for the last 100 years, the standard of Refereeing of late is critical than ever and a lot of that is down to the integrity of some footballers out there who are trying to cheat the rules.
One thing more than ever that irks me is the studio pundits having the brass neck to criticize the officials and in the same breath are championing ‘diving as part of the game’.
