22nd April 2019 at 2:23 pm #38558Anonymous“That will arguably change the pressure dynamic and the expectation pressure then shifts on to Liverpool.”
Exactly. We definitely struggled with this exact pressure before. Have we really learned enough in this short time to completely wash our hands of it? Of course not, it’s a huge concern but it’s a first world problem with 3 games to go. We can only hope that we could get over the line.
I have just seen a clip of Ole’s pre-match discussion and I hate to say this but he’s done at the club. He looked incredibly tense but the worrying sign for me is that he started talking like an over-compensating, defeated man. For whatever reason, some types seem to think I that it’s a good thing to over-state their position to make it looks strong but it only gives it away as being the opposite.
I’m talking about a point in this where he states “I’m going to be a success at this club”. Ole needs to watch this tape and compare it to the top managers in the world and the language they use. You wouldn’t catch Klopp or Pep muttering this kind of rubbish. I understand he said it while he was having a pretty awkward discussion about how you move forward with an entire team who seem to be below the required standard and how he can only change so many at a time, or something like this. Honestly, the entire conversation should have been brushed off and avoided. I think he’s a little too open with the media and this gets me onto my next point.
Ole has (in my opinion/guestimate) already lost the dressing room. My guess is that he hasn’t reacted well with the team since their down-spell and we get hints of this in how a manager talks about his team to the press before and after various matches. Ole has, like Sarri, been just a little too honest about his players. I think he kinda slated them a few games ago and the Everton game suggests that they’ve downed tools.
A real shame as we could have done with a hungry, if not competent Utd side to face City. Maybe the fans can lift them for this one game but I think Utd have got to pull the plug and get someone in BEFORE the summer spending starts. Crazy to say this since they just offered him a contract? I strongly disagreed about the handing out of a contract in the first place and if they had done the sensible thing then, they wouldn’t have to pay through the nose to get themselves out of their own mistake.
You’ll learn nothing more about Ole by giving him more time. He’s way out of his depth.

22nd April 2019 at 2:45 pm #38563Anonymous” Iβll believe weβve got a chance, at least until they score their usual 4th minute goal. For the life of me, I canβt understand your doom and gloom. It really seems as though youβre not enjoying the ride.”
Even if you didn’t want to believe, you’d be wrong because the facts (word used incorrectly usually but not now) are that we’re within a game of the title. It can all swing on a single afternoon. That is the mathematics of it, so we DO have a chance, whether people can admit this or not is up to them.
As for Oz not enjoying the ride, there were weeks where I kinda threw in the towel also, so I get it. There were weeks where our performance level was JUST enough to get the points and no more and I know we had shared concerns for the sustainability of these situations.
If you remember also, Oz wasn’t enjoying the style change from last season, which I also can understand. The way we played last season was breath-taking, so it’s hard to give up but we had to look to balance things if we were to progress and we’ve done that, it’s just not as attractive sometimes.
All of that aside though, I think Oz has to try and come to the dark side. What if you doubt it all the way, only for it to go our way? Could happen on the last day and I know that some lads will respond with “I’d only be delighted to be wrong”…. But why not be right instead? I think it was Threeps who said that this is self-preservation and he had a point. It must be because the fact is that we do have a chance and all City need to do is let their nerves get to them one time in 3. We’d all love a bigger chance than this but this is what we’ve got. Maybe it’ll end up being 1 in 1 but even then, there’s chance. If people want to say there is none then I am unaware of the league table showing City with a 100% record so far.
Come over to the dark side and learn to take the blow for believing, even if it’s just a little bit of belief. Besides, you can give it all up the second we lose one game.

22nd April 2019 at 2:49 pm #38565As a few of us said earlier, the new manager bounce was simply because Maureen had gone, nothing to do with Ole, he got a bit “lucky” in a couple of games during that “run” which made it look better than it was, and now we see what a squad full of ego’s with super agents do when they can’t be bothered… another example of “player power”…

22nd April 2019 at 2:51 pm #38566Too right,United should just play youngsters from now on,and make every single player available for transfer.Forget the next couple of years, and think medium to long-term,build a team capable of challenging in the next 3-4 years, since the immediate future is doom & gloom!

22nd April 2019 at 3:32 pm #38572I’ll try and pick a 11 for Wednesday:
De Gea
Shaw, Smalling, Jones, Young
Matic, McTominay, Perrera, Mata
Sanchez,
Rashford.

22nd April 2019 at 5:51 pm #38575AnonymousHow did Utd become such an average team? Not one of them makes our first 11 right now. I mean De Gea would if he were on form, he’s got to be the best in the world. I wouldn’t touch any of the rest with a barge-pole though.
I bet I’d eat my words if they had a world class manger in there and a window or 2 to ship out some and bring some new blood in. The likes of Pogba can shine when things are going well but you’ve got to be more resilient than that, so I wouldn’t have him at Liverpool.
I realise I’m making the kinds of statements that might look ridiculous over time but right now, they are awful.
Fire Woodward and get in a footballing man. This clown is ruining your club.

22nd April 2019 at 7:07 pm #38577I wouldn’t get rid of Woodward commercially he’s a great business man and has been fantastic for United commercially he just shouldn’t be taking football decisions that’s all that’s why United need a Director of Football with real gravitas, that’s not Mike Phelan imo.

22nd April 2019 at 7:23 pm #38578Spot on Nine. Woodward is behind our huge commercial growth which ensures Utd are hugely successful off the pitch. The problem is that Woodward should have nothing to do with what happens on the pitch, hence the search for a technical director. I just really hope Phelan is not given that role.

22nd April 2019 at 9:01 pm #38580Footballs a funny game and you can never tell what you’re going to get especially in these end of season games when so much is resting on them for some.
Undoubtedly United can raise their efforts over Everton and play better than they did at Goodison but team v team there are very few United players who would get in the City team whether ultimately United will have enough to get a result against City is open to conjecture but Chelsea lost to Crystal Palace the season before last in our title run in so it can happen and not just to City.
Could easily be one or two twists both ways before the title is finally settled.

22nd April 2019 at 9:48 pm #38582A little bit of hope in Bailly, Valencia and Herrera being ready for Weds.
It so, United stand a great chance in claiming all 3 points. I wonder too if De Gea would be dropped. Luke Shaw will definitely be back. I think with Sanchez, he could come on in the second half. Mata should definitely start. I’m thinking too Martial.

23rd April 2019 at 10:55 am #38594Read a few different utd forums and even a few utd friends want city to win so it stops Liverpool?
These people cannot be real fans of their team. Shameful that really
I want my teams win every game no matter what. I wanted us to beat Blackburn in 95 when utd and bb were going for the league.
Itβs embarrassing really. They are not real supporters when utd need cl football.

23rd April 2019 at 11:17 am #38595I don’t think the United fans generally think they can get CL football now Sean.
I wonder whether that feeling may have crept into the United players too it’s certainly permutated to the Chelsea defence. ?
It looks like Spurs 3rd and Arsenal 4th now.

23rd April 2019 at 12:12 pm #38603Sean, I did the same as also read many fans saying they would sacrifice top 4 for Liverpool not winning the league. To me that is bitter and small-minded, I would never want my team to lose even if we had nothing riding on it, let alone a Champions League place.
I remember before the Liverpool Blackburn game hearing someone say James will likely just point to which corner Shearer should put it to ensure Utd didn’t win the league and it raised a smile, but once the game started I and I think most Liverpool fans were behind our team. Obliviously that day turned out pretty well in the end π
Nine, with all the other contenders struggling and no one pulling away Utd are certainly still in the mix for top 4, even if they have the most difficult task. Probably need to win all their remaining games, but if they did and the other continue their current form then they’ll get it.
