7th June 2019 at 8:57 am #42238Stevo, ha, ha, tbh I would buy De Ligt way before I bought Maguire.
Too many players starting for England that don’t start regularly for their Clubs ie Stones, Delph and Barkley albeit that Barkley until his error was half decent but Stones has been making the same errors now for years which is why he has lost his place at City.
The World Cup flattered us due to the easy route to the Semi Finals realistically we are still miles away despite some exciting youngsters coming through.

7th June 2019 at 10:56 am #42242Dear almighty God,just how fecking useless & overrated J.Stones is? Walker,Delph & Barkley shouldnt even be anywhere near the national camp.Play the youngsters.I didnt think there are worse defenders than Jones & Smalling, step forward J.Stones.

7th June 2019 at 11:44 am #42246AnonymousDelph and Barkley played well admit though they not world beaters but the whole England defence is a problem, you could sense they would score at anytime. England have better players available but Southgate doesn’t select them.

7th June 2019 at 11:49 am #42247I would say bar the error by Barkley at the end he was probably England’s best player last night.

7th June 2019 at 12:30 pm #42249I Think Chillwell and Pickford were the standout players. Barkley did well though.

7th June 2019 at 4:18 pm #42258I think last night just advertised the need for Trent and Gomez to become regular starters for England. I’m know I’m biased but if they are not a considerable step up on Walker and Maguire/Stones then I can’t judge a footballer!

7th June 2019 at 5:19 pm #42263Though I guess you can’t play Sterling, Sancho and Hudson-odoi in the same team.
the other one who should start when fit is Loftus-Cheek.
Pickford (though I’m not convinced Heaton or Pope aren’t better)
Trent
Gomez
Stones / Maguire (maybe Keane)
ChilwellRLC
Henderson
BarkleySterling
Kane
Sancho…with Maddison, Rashford, CHO, and I suppose Alli as back up. Midfield worries me though. For obvious reasons I love Henderson, but with only Delph and Rice there as competition for his role, it doesn’t really inspire me. Can we agree that we can forget about Dier now? I guess Rose and Wan-Bissako will be the back up full backs for the time being, unless Shaw has a resurgence.
So overall, a decent squad I would say, but certainly not world beaters

7th June 2019 at 6:49 pm #42265Maddison ahead of RLC for me,much more creative.Stones never again, unless he improves a great deal playing club football.Same goes for Shaw.

7th June 2019 at 7:48 pm #42266Mav, currently I would agree as RLC only has one leg.?
But if RLC can get back fit and well he’s going to be some player he’s got the lot. Such a shame his development was stalled by his injury.

8th June 2019 at 9:46 am #42279Bad mistakes from Stones and Barclay. Looking beyond club bias the problem for England is the VERY poor midfield. At City Stones is able to pass to a midfielder who can trap the ball, hold it and pass it like Fernandinho, Silva, Bernardo KDB, Gundogan etc.England have Barclay, Henderson,Delph, Rice…etc. I rest my case. The strikers get no proper service either.
Bias here but the sooner Foden improves a bit the better. We have nobody like that._____________________________

8th June 2019 at 9:54 am #42280Adlab, England are what the premiere league would be like without the overseas players, hopefully this will change with the next generation of players who will be coached technically rather than just physically….Pagan

8th June 2019 at 10:10 am #42282We need to get both Foden and Maddison into the squad but that won’t happen as long as he’s not playing regularly for City.
I’ve been critical of Barkley’s passing and ball retention for Chelsea but if we check the stats I think we’ll find he was one of England’s best players on Thursday night. His passing was accurate and it was a brilliant through ball for Lingard’s offside goal. Unfortunately the mistake at the end put a bit of a dampener on his performance.

8th June 2019 at 10:13 am #42284Adlab, Stones can’t get into the City team currently until he’s playing regularly for City week in week out and eliminating these errors from his game he shouldn’t be starting for England imo.

8th June 2019 at 10:52 am #42287Mav,
Different types of players, Scholes was more physical and seemed to relish that side of the game, Lampard and Gerrard we’re more similar and there was nothing between them, both brought things to their teams, Gerrard leadership, Lampard goals. Yes I know Gerrard also scored plenty of goals but Chelsea haven’t had a consistent 20+ league goals a season striker since JFH.
For me they’re all grouped together as quality players who were critical to their teams….Pagan_____________________________
