Nike…it was not an isolated programme either, They love talking about themselves and endless clips. It would suggest they do not have enough about them to talk about 45 minutes of a match, maybe, that is why BBC have introduced there own commercials, SO, I wonder if there salary will be deducted by the minute? Some hope!! I have thought for a long time that statistical interpretation has become more important than the game of football

23rd September 2020 at 12:26 pm #166618Brian, I used to enjoy the format in the early 90s where there would 2 or 3 matches shown as highlights, then the rest of the games played on that day.
Long before the Internet, it was the main focal point for me and I imagine others to be able to watch their team on TV. I agree on the volume of stats. Like yourself, I just want to be able to enjoy a good game of football.
The BBC Staff are overpaid and there’s hardly any quality TV now worth watching. It falls back to the debate of justifying Television License Fees.

23rd September 2020 at 3:58 pm #166642There was a bit more about Lawrenson and Hansen that made good listening but at the end of their stint they were getting weary, however they were better than we have now

23rd September 2020 at 4:57 pm #166644Brian, I was a fan of Trevor Brooking, Des Lynam and Jimmy Hill (Late). This was when I was a junior growing up. I enjoyed their wit and positivity they brought. In the early 90s, Lineker came in as a side-pundit and the BBC were trying to bed-in more younger blood.
We’re in a Society Brian where now there’s effectively pressure to employee and integrate into the industry females. We’re seeing a younger generation in their 20s and 30s.
In the TV industry, it’s inevitable that these individuals will all have a shelf-life. Some lucky to be there for years and decades and really enjoy a Career.
Question Of Sport was the latest one in line for a reshuffle and from that point of view, I think somebody else should be given a chance.

23rd September 2020 at 5:27 pm #166646Nike….you may well be right, but my view is change does not always bring improvement and often done when somebody in high office has nothing else to do, then thinks, we will have a change A jaundice view but that is what I think of the BBC these days

23rd September 2020 at 7:37 pm #166653Brian @ 5:27, I honestly share that same view, so you’re not alone. There’s innovation for the sake of it. Thank Goodness For You Tube where I’m able to revisit and live those memories.
Cheers

23rd September 2020 at 7:45 pm #166654Sean, that’s an interesting thought mate. I watched no too long ago on You Tube certain ex-Liverpool players being interviewed I think after us winning the Title.
A question was asked: “What Result would you change if you could Rewrite History”?
It was Robbie Fowler the question was put forward to and his reply was to change the outcome of the 1996 FA Cup Final.
I think as far as I was concerned personally, that season after was when I started to lose interest in Match Of The Day. I think at that point, TeamTALK was created and that’s where I was heading towards in 97/98.
Looking back, it now feels like one big Tangent π π

24th September 2020 at 3:00 pm #166666I have enough patience now to watch 90 minutes of a City game, without Adverts and Punditry the day after but I listen to match live on GMR radio, feet up with a cuppa or glass of something plus the odd biscuit. I would still rather be at the game itself, alas, those days have now come to an end

27th September 2020 at 12:34 pm #167245Brian, I watched MOTD just now using BBC Iplayer. Effective in being able to fast-forward the bits I don’t really want to watch just as analysis.
There are HD Recorder Boxes with Freeview or Freesat that will allow you to record then watch at your own leisure like the old VHS’s/
