Sean, just cancelled my subscription with a month’s notice. Our game re Sheff United has been moved to Box Office – would have been a great treat for a Saturday night but for these changes. More Greed unfortunately.

11th October 2020 at 1:44 pm #168297My understanding based on everything I’ve read is that the only games on this new pay per view service are games that were previoysly unscheduled for coverage the out cry is against the cost of viewing those games at Β£14:95 per game.
Going forwards on games yet to be scheduled if for instance Manchester United v Liverpool was scheduled to appear on pay per view when it would have originally been part of the Sky/ BT Sport packages that would be a major problem.
I suspect given the outrage at the cost especially given the current circumstances in the country there might be a possible revisting that price.
But fans can’t have it both ways they can’t clamour for new signings as they have in the Summer transfer window and at the same time with no money coming through the turnstiles for the Club’s criticise the Club’s for trying to generate some new revenue streams when they are also under pressure to provide significant support to the Championship.
However despite the outrage at the cost of pay per view on top of the Sky and BT Sport’s package costs for football Project Big Picture is probably a much bigger subject.

11th October 2020 at 3:12 pm #168299If it was 15 quid for a weekend pass which allowed you to watch the 5/6 games that weren’t already scheduled for broadcast on bt or sky I think that would be OK. All the PL will achieve with this is cancelled subscriptions and increased piracy. At least when you could see all the games via subscription the advertisers were assured of audience levels, can’t quantify those watching illegally and can’t earn from it as consequence.

12th October 2020 at 9:13 pm #168357The Broadcasting Networks or the Premier League need to come up with a Value for money Scheme. Now Tv is sort of getting there in recent times, but that too can be pricey.
Need a One For All type of pass with incentives and money-back schemes.

20th October 2020 at 9:52 am #168709Β£15 for a 0-0 draw?
If there are 2 box office matches for example on the same day, you end up paying Β£30.
One match was total dross according to reports. Not really the player’s fault as such, but why not offer this as a day pass or significantly reduce to Β£5 or even Β£2:50?
You’ll reel in more ‘subscribers’! π

20th October 2020 at 2:14 pm #168714AnonymousIt’s robbery. John Henry has recently taken a lot of stick (even from Sky, which is comical) for trying to exploit the coronavirus situation, yet here Sky are doing the same and although there is definitely some outrage amongst fans, it seems to be a lot more socially acceptable for Sky to be doing it. This “your helping the PL” thing sounds like it came out of the marketing dept.
I already thought sports packages were way too expensive and had been refusing to pay those prices, so you can guess that I am scoffing heavily at this latest trend, which they will 100% try to keep going after the virus is under control.
Everyone decides what is acceptable to them and what doesnt offend their means etc but cheers Nil for saying that enough is enough. Unfortunately,. I think far more will be buying into it than opting out of their services but they will notice the people who are voting with their pockets too.

20th October 2020 at 2:44 pm #168717Pay per View is a PL Clubs iniative not a Broadcasters iniative with PL Clubs voting 19 to 1 in favour of Pay per view with only Leicester voting against it. The Broadcasters as I understand it are only getting paid the cost they incur in covering the games.
Β£14:95 is too much though I think fans will only be interested in paying for their own games and the pick up will be low imo at Β£14:95.
The suggestion is that the pick up over the weekend was low so there’s every chance if that continues that the costs will come down. Hopefully!π€

21st October 2020 at 8:22 pm #168834Fans could unfortunately be priced out even through Television. There are different sets of Broadcasters and that leads to multiple channels and individual subscription fees.
There isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ designed so far that’s ultimately value for money for the Customer.
The boxes and streams from elsewhere maybe an option, but never foolproof.
The Top of The Tree are catered for as always and they’re the ones supplemented that come first from this from what I see. It’s understandable thinking about sources of income and player’s salaries.
We can’t use the point all the time of “wanting the best players”. Something needs to give because it’s the Poor that are ultimately hit.

5th November 2020 at 2:55 pm #169708“PL clubs will on Thursday discuss scrapping the controversial pay-per-view system after the international break.
Talks at the latest shareholders’ meeting over reducing the Β£14.95 PPV charge to Β£9.95 or less are expected to include a motion to abandon the fee altogether, amid pressure for matches to return to being free to air during the second national lockdown.
Supporters’ groups have railed against the charge, with many encouraging fans to donate to local food banks and other charities instead.
A decision is not expected on Thursday, with clubs to discuss the matter before Premier League talks with broadcasters.
Clubs could also raise the reintroduction of five substitutes after several managers spoke in favour this week.
The English Football League (EFL) board are also set to meet on Thursday, with discussions to include the Premier League’s latest bailout offer.
Last month, all 72 EFL clubs rejected the top-flight’s proposal of a Β£50million rescue package, amid claims it was divisive for excluding the Championship.
The fresh offer is thought to include guarantees that no Championship club will be allowed to go out of business due to the pandemic but will effectively exclude second-tier clubs with wealthier owners.
Richard Masters, the Premier League chief executive, EFL chairman Rick Parry and Football Association chairman Greg Clarke have all been called before the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee next week to explain the ongoing failure to reach an agreement.”

The only downside is once again, our game falls on a Sunday and 7:15 – keep thinking Villa – Yikes!

14th November 2020 at 1:27 pm #170206Good news!
βThe Premier League will show every fixture live on TV until the new year, with no pay-per-view matches in sight.
As expected, the top flight has abandoned the controversial format that led to fans being charged Β£14.95 to watch a single game. Instead, it has reverted to the model used after football returned in June following the first national lockdown; most games will be shown live on Sky and BT Sport, with additional fixtures on Amazon Prime and free to air on the BBC.
The BBC will show Everton v Fulham on Sunday 22 November. Amazon, meanwhile, will screen Crystal Palace v Newcastle. The other remaining matches, on top of those already picked for TV, will be shared between BT and Sky.
The new arrangement will run through December and January, and will include the intensive Christmas and New Year period. The allocation of matches for this period have yet to be decided.
βThere is a full schedule of Premier League games over the festive period and clubs are committed to an accessible solution for fans,β a Premier League spokesperson said. βThe agreement will be reviewed in the new year following consultation with clubs, broadcast partners and in line with any decisions made by government regarding the return of spectators to stadiums.β The Guardian
Worth remembering these are all unscheduled games so they have to be fitted in around the previously scheduled games hence the 7:15 pm ko for Liverpool v Leicester.

14th November 2020 at 5:51 pm #170225It makes me wonder though why the TV Scheduling in public view is being drip-fed???
We have I think the next couple of weeks, but then you have to wait for the next set of updates where as in the past, you’d have about 3 months worth beforehand so you can plan around it.
