The guy best suited imo is Carlo but never getting him back from Real!

7th September 2022 at 11:31 am #198783Hearing there is release clause in potters contract nine, but agree its not guaranteed Potter would want it.

7th September 2022 at 11:34 am #198784A quarter of a billion spent for the manager and then he’s sacked. Bizarre. It can’t be just results.

7th September 2022 at 12:09 pm #198785Because managers are now so generally short term and have to deliver immediately, I think you get the classic case of a light burning twice as bright but only burning half as long. You can only maintain that high intense pressure on yourself as a manager for so long before the cracks start appearing. And with Tuchel looking increasingly agitated in recent weeks, along perhaps with other things going on we don’t know about, maybe it’s just another example of his lifespan at Chelsea burning out.
Is Potter going to want to sign up to that though and potentially be chucked out in a few years? Not saying he shouldn’t be ambitious, and obviously if he feels he’s got it, you can’t really say he shouldn’t try it. But from an owner’s perspective, particularly a new one who’s just spent a load of money, do you not want a proven candidate ready to go? Rightly or wrongly, that’s why I could see them going for Zidane. At 7/1 maybe worth a punt if Potter doesn’t go for it.

7th September 2022 at 12:49 pm #198786That’s it mikuis, potter really has come up through the levels. It took Brighton two years to grasp his ideas. He won’t be given time at Chelsea. He’s a great up and coming coach but what a huge job.
I liked tuchel. He was good for the pl. very harsh sacking in my opinion if utd about results. What if a new manager comes in and doesn’t rate sone if the new signings

7th September 2022 at 1:44 pm #198787Sky Sports News senior reporter Rob Dorsett:
“We told you Graham Potter was top of Chelsea’s list to replace Thomas Tuchel, and the Blues have now been given permission by Brighton to speak to Potter.
“He is now expected to travel to London and meet with Todd Boehly and other members of the Chelsea board later this afternoon, and I think you have to presume that Chelsea have made it clear to Brighton that they are prepared to meet the exit clause in Potter’s contract, which gives them permission to talk to him.
“Huge breaking news and developing very quickly.
“We said that we expected Chelsea to move very quickly and that this had been months in the planning by Boehly and the other executives at Chelsea. They decided some time ago that they wanted to move on from Thomas Tuchel.
“They wanted someone who could come in and change the ethos, change the way Chelsea play and change the entire structure of the football set-up at Chelsea Football Club, looking at the academy, looking at coaching the existing players they have here and using the £255m of new talent that they brought in and get the very best out of them.
“It was some time ago that Todd Boehly and his associates decided that Thomas Tuchel wasn’t the right man to do that. It’s very clear now that Graham Potter is the man they do believe can do that.”

7th September 2022 at 2:28 pm #198788Wow, only just seen this. I’ll get that article taken down Lucky 😆. Crazy stuff.
Potter is a huge gamble, especially as I think he’s someone who, given a chance like this, would need a pre-season at least to really be given the chance to succeed. I think it’s tougher for someone like him to come in without a pre-season than it is for someone a bit more established at this level, like Poch.

7th September 2022 at 4:41 pm #198791Managers jobs should be labelled as a health risk. If, as thought, Chelsea have a good squad, they would work through a poor run, so is it the players or the manager but I have always thought player should not have the power to influence these things but work better together for the better cause. maybe fantasy but some things I guess just do not work out but it was not long ago when everyone was praising Tuchel. I guess something must be happening we all do not know about

7th September 2022 at 4:46 pm #198792You have to wonder why they didn’t give Utd more encouragement when we were supposedly looking at Tuchel before Ten Hag was confirmed. That’s if they genuinely have been planning this for a number of months. Would have saved them a lot of money.
The benefit of taking a risk on a Potter-style appointment now is that if he absolutely flops, the likes of Luis Enrique will likely be available after the World Cup.

8th September 2022 at 12:39 pm #198849Rumoured to be a 5 year deal. No manager has lasted more than 5 years at Chelsea since…checks notes…Dave Sexton was appointed in 1967.

8th September 2022 at 2:04 pm #198852If you want instant trophies you hire a proven trophy winner. You only appoint Potter for a specific long term project. That’s in sane world though, which world boehly and Co are in has yet to be determined 😊

8th September 2022 at 4:02 pm #198854“Potter & The Primadonnas With The Big Boobies” it is!!
Fair play to him, I think we can all agree he deserves a chance at one of the Top 4 clubs in London, and I think it’s very gracious for that ‘lot’ to take the gamble… and, let’s face it, whatver happens his pension is getting a nice top-up!!

8th September 2022 at 5:56 pm #198858Going to be really interesting to see how he does. The board and fans will potentially need to be really patient. Potter hasn’t always had it easy at Brighton. Brighton went 11 straight games without winning last season and then also lost 6 in a row. You don’t get to do that at this level for very long. A tough task made tougher by not having a pre-season.
