27th July 2021 at 9:04 pm #182078Not so interested since they let Russia back in and take medals from other countries. Why are they even showing and giving them medals, it is a sham

29th July 2021 at 1:06 pm #182091If they have these shortened forms of the game like Rugby 7’s and Basketball 3’s, they should do 5 a side footy! Load of lads from your local Powerleague with names like Inter Yemam playing π

29th July 2021 at 1:32 pm #182092Tugs, futsal has been in the youth olympics, whether it gets into the main games will probably depend if it can be run alongside 11 a side footy and not replace itβ¦β¦Pagan

29th July 2021 at 1:50 pm #182093In my opinion they should get rid of 11 a side footy in its current format at the Olympics. Either that, or just make it a complete youth team, not this 3 x over aged players. It’s just not the height of a footballers career to play at the Olympics. Same goes for Golf and tennis and other well paid sports.

31st July 2021 at 1:57 pm #182144First Olympics without a Rowing Gold medal for Britain since Moscow in 2980. That needs looking in to.

31st July 2021 at 4:40 pm #182146Rowing, has the highest funding of the Olympic sports and probably one of the most difficult to access for kids, how many comprehensive schools have that as an option in PE. Maybe spend the money on easy access sports and get a bigger talent pool in thoseβ¦β¦Pagan

31st July 2021 at 5:49 pm #182147Pagan, Rowing has been one of GB’s most successful area of the Olympics since 1980 574,000 participated in Rowing in 2020 across hundreds of Rowing Clubs. I suspect the analysis of Rowing in this Olympics will investigate how GB can strengthen rather than weaken Rowing at the next Olympics.

31st July 2021 at 7:37 pm #182149Great stats 9, but you do realise that includes indoor rowing and that participation has dropped by over 200k in the last 4 years.
More telling is the fact that there are only approximately 32k members of rowing clubs in the uk.
Unless you go to a private school, one of the top universities or you have parents who row, then your exposure to rowing in your formative sporting years is nigh on zero.
Letβs spend the Β£24m a year on something kids can easily access at school or relatively cheaply in local clubsβ¦..Pagan_____________________________

31st July 2021 at 8:19 pm #182153As I said Pagan “I suspect the analysis of Rowing in this Olympics will investigate how GB can strengthen rather than weaken GB’s Rowing at the next Olympics.”
Realistically the Β£24m is not going to be taken away from Rowing and given to another Sport. GB is very good at Rowing we need to examine what went wrong this year and try and get back to where we were and I’m sure that will be the objective.
