Pagan…a way needs to be found to stop what you describe. I am not sure how I would go about it but as I have said before fans enjoy analysis more than a game of football now. Comments on a game I understand but the statistical and now Video evidence, which is not always true and rely’s on human interpretation means little to me. Final whistle goes, that is the score…look forward to the next match I watch, whoever it is

26th September 2019 at 3:47 pm #48566Brian, totally agree that the dissection of a game seems to be entertainment wise more important than the actual game. I don’t watch the pre and post match stuff if I watch a game, with MOTD I record it Saturday night and watch it Sunday morning and skip the analysis between game, as an aside is Gary really worth his salary as most of the people I know also skip between the games. My favourite quote about all the stats was from Brian Clough, he was asked if he have had all the player stats and analysis info we get now from Pro Zone etc when he was a manager did he think he’d have been a better, he replied we did have it we just called it our eyes…..Pagan

26th September 2019 at 3:48 pm #48567AnonymousLucky, Id argue we’re not on for top six if we continue to concede in the manner we do.
Lampard has more than 40 odd players to pick from who are on our books, thats the clubs own internal market, a transfer ban was handed to us because we were accused of signing the best youth players illegally. Full fledged internationals many of them too on this internal market we’ve created ourselves.
How long will you put up with defending that costs us goals and big games and at what point in the table do you start to go hang on… CFC is a multibillion pound football club. We’ve seen what impact not playing in the champions league constantly has had on player recruitment and finances. Its one of the reasons were going with the Lampard experiment as opposed to the tried and tested winning formula (manager A approach in your words) of appointing managers who can set a team up to defend.
You remember Jess’s truisms on the other pages. Here’s one for you and quoting the big man himself. There’s non room for sentiment in football.

26th September 2019 at 4:08 pm #48569on current form we wont finish top 6, you dont need to argue that or point it out its obvious. If you dont think it will get better defensively fine, I think it will, but neither of us can be sure until we have seen a lot more games.

26th September 2019 at 5:01 pm #48575Anonymous” I don’t watch the pre and post match stuff if I watch a game, with MOTD I record it Saturday night and watch it Sunday morning and skip the analysis between game”
I still watch some analysis but nowhere near as much as I did before. I just hate constantly feeling that I know more about the game than these ex-pros. You lads may read that thinking “arrogant Tw@” but I am saying that it’s because of them being utterly clueless and not about me being particularly knowledgeable. Obviously there is a gradient in terms of stupidity but it seems that over the last decade or so, the quality of football discussion has plummeted. I’m not sure about that last part, in terms of reality over memory because there have always been some classic characters, especially over on Sky but the BBC also… I can’t listen to Iain Wright. he just wrecks my head. He can be saying great things about Liverpool but when he breaks his reasoning down, I’ll facepalm. Loads of them are like this. It’s like they are winging it.

26th September 2019 at 5:15 pm #48576Mac..I like your posts because you get down to reality. I also liken to when people ask me the best City team or player I know after 75 years of following. The question cannot be answered. In many ways the game to day is more entertains, in other ways it looses character. Years ago, apart from supporting your team , you went to see certain characters play, Tommy Lawton, Stanley matthews, Tom Finney, Len Shackleton etc As to Pundits, I just cannot get my head around them bringing up there white boards and figuring out moves “they” should have done etc. As I said before, they are trying to make a science out of it when clearly that is not possible. How many times do you hear “that is a wonderful pass” when if you are watching you know there is an element of luck to it.

26th September 2019 at 5:35 pm #48577I don’t think the squad AVB had at Chelsea is comparable to the squad that Lampard’ started the season with.
The majority of Chelsea fans agree Lampard was a risky appointment me included but given all the circumstances were happy to see him give the chance.
6 games in is far too early to judge Lampard especially given all of the injuries.
Defensively Chelsea have been disappointing but having both Rudiger and Kante fit to play week in and week out will help. It may not completely solve the problem and Lampard might well have to visit the transfer window to do that when the ban is lifted/overturned.
The results could and should have been better but given some of the football Chelsea have played there is reason for optimism imo as well as the way some of the young players are developing.
The match going fans are supportive of Lampard’ as we’ve seen which is important for him.
Personally I think given all the circumstances within reason this season is a free hit for Lampard and personally I think he needs a Summer window and next season before he can be truly judged.
Realistically though whatever I or anybody else thanks won’t make an iota of difference it will be Roman who decides what does or doesn’t happen going forwsrds.

26th September 2019 at 8:43 pm #48581Brian, those comments make me laugh as well, such gems as “only he could make that pass”
“He saw the gap and curled the ball into it, only he could do that” no mention of the 4 previous times it’s gone into row z. Personally I like park footy and grass roots footy, no money just for the love of the game….Pagan_____________________________

26th September 2019 at 9:22 pm #48582Well, next season I will probably do that, My local team play just 3/4 minutes away. I just hope I last that long!!!! A season ticket next year would indeed be a risk but will pay over the odds for an occasional game. City has dominated most of my life, sporting wise. and it was strange being at the 125th anniversary game last Saturday when I have covered 75 years of them…How time goes so fast I cannot explain You are right Pagan about grass routes , I just hope I do not encounter the points Mak pointed out Nothing replaces street football played years ago when one of our streets was considered to be Wembley

26th September 2019 at 11:51 pm #48583Brian, your posts are always a joy to read. My first experiences of watching football was watching grass roots mens football and every possible moment was spent in the park across the road with jumpers for goalposts chasing a red Frido with the highlight of the week being a Sunday morning game with all the big lads on Twickenham Green. Happy Days.?
75 years of following City at Maine Road and now the Etihad deserves recognition by the Club and someone should let them know.
You should write a book the knowledge and experiences you’ve had should never be lost. Cheers 9’s

27th September 2019 at 9:03 am #48588AnonymousSean, I wouldn’t have changed the manager… The club board should have supported the one they had who finished the season in top four and with silverware regardless of the fan base’s demands.
(in future, as we’re seeing with Newcastle, clubs dont need the fans, that ties in with the romantic view that street football is king that’s popped up on here.We could argue the hind legs off a donkey over that, Brian and others start a thread called jumpers for goal posts…)After that, I was prepared to swallow pride and have Rafa back as he did actually shape part of the current side with Hazard, Luiz, Dave etc. Wont a Europa too. Lampard was never a first choice for me until he had earned the right to manage Chelsea.
Third was Macelo Bielsa at Leeds. Just think his attention to detail is comparable to top coaches we’ve had.
I would have also taken Blanc for an 18 month period.
I just think managing Chelsea at this point inn time is a poisoned challace and Frank, regardless of what he does, will have his reputation burned if he doesn’t perform, Chelsea fans have form in stabbing Lampard in the back, once when he signed until he proved himself and once after playing for us for more than a decade and signing for New York city’s feeder club Manchester City! 😉
Anyone else looking at Derby this season going wtf…. A drinking culture engrained in the club? it would have been happening under his watch. Troubling headlines for football really.

27th September 2019 at 9:41 am #48592I think the problem some fans had with sari was his stubbornness. My brother in law is a season ticket holder and he said the majority of the fans were unhappy with the way he went about certain things.
He never seemed to change tactics. It was always 4-3-3. He did in the league final to be fair to him. There was just a sense he wasn’t accepted from the off.
He did a good job though. I think you make some valid points but Lampard needs a chance. He needs patience. The crowd were fully behind the team and frank even when 2-0 down and that reflected on the pitch.
If Chelsea finished 10th, he can’t be sacked. They need to stick with him. I think lucky and nine make the points exactly why Chelsea are going in the right direction
You are well entitled to you opinion and you make some interesting points

27th September 2019 at 10:08 am #48594Getting a new manager was not optional for the club but necessary, as Sarri wanted out. Some might say its the chelsea fans that made his mind up for him, they can believe that if they want, but I feel the transfer ban and Juve calling was enough motivation for sarri to want out.
As for a top class replacement, I am not sure how many would have been attracted to the job at this time given the circumstances. The club needed someone who understood the importance of maximising the youth products we have and the moment lamps was in the mix in just seemed right.
I too posted that I would go for Rafa before lamps was appointed. But I dont really think we would have had a chance at top ready made coach outside of that due to the circumstances.

27th September 2019 at 10:59 am #48598The next one to step up?
“Big things are expected of Gilmour, who certainly does not lack confidence in his own game, and former Scotland captain Barry Ferguson believes the youngster could become the finest player his country has produced in several years.
The ex-Rangers star told the Daily Record: “There’s something special about Billy Gilmour. Something very different from the rest.
“I am absolutely convinced this kid is going all the way to the top.
“I’m excited for him. I’m excited for his family. But most of all I’m excited for Scottish football because I truly believe we’ll be building our national team around this boy for many, many years to cone. To put it simply, we haven’t produced a player like this in decades.
“That’s not me having a pop at the likes of Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney or Scott McTominay – who have all made it to the highest level of the English game. These guys are outstanding football players and will be Scotland internationals for years to come.
“But, like I say, there’s something special about Billy. Something different.
“Technically, there is no doubt in my mind that he has the ability to go as far in the game as he wants to. But we’ve all seen young boys come through in the past who had the world at their feet but who never quite managed to reach their full potential.
“The thing that makes Billy that little bit different from the rest is his desire, attitude and hunger. I see it all in his eyes and that’s why I am so convinced we are talking about a special player.”
“When I look at this kid I can’t help but think about Andy Murray leaving Dunblane at a similar age to make it as a tennis player in Spain. That’s the sort of single-minded attitude you have to admire and it’s why I really believe Billy has got it all going for him.
“Put it this way, if I was Stevie Clarke I’d be having a good hard think about whether or not to bring him straight into the full Scotland set-up. And, after mulling it over for five minutes, I would probably call him up for the next squad and next month’s double header with Russia and San Marino.”

27th September 2019 at 11:10 am #48600AnonymousSean, fans aside, Sarri probably over performed with the squad he had. I saw merits in what he was doing, the way the team was set up… his first year results at Chelsea actually mirrored his first year at his Napoli side. ie unexplainable big losses. He was also blamed for things outside his control. CFC’s dressing room is mental and he was also blamed for not bringing Hudson Odoi through or playing Loftus cheek much when he was injured. Hudson Odoi is a mercenary who doesn’t love the club or fans iMO… Just money.
Sarri has gone… We have Lampard. The club will stick with him until the ban is over, that could be as soon as January, More likely the summer where he will be given funds. Then he is on the famous Chelsea trap door with noose around his neck, where the biggest and best managers in the game have stood and swung.
Lampard, unless competing for the top trophies, knows he’ll be out one his ear regardless of how badly the fans champion him to remain or who he integrates into the side.. Ranieri moulded the side Jose made into winner etc… CFC have been ruthless in operating over the past 20 years, the fans have called for Grant, Ranieri, Jose M x 2, AVB, Sarri, Benitez, Soclari among others all to be sacked. I’ve not said anywhere I want Lampard sacked, I want him to do well… be he wont with the way we are defending and he needs to make changes because he’s already on borrowed time…
