6th September 2019 at 3:27 pm #47136No cuddles for you then…
(On a mildly amusing note, I used a date a girl who was a Gooner, and I knew I wasn’t getting lucky when she would come to bed with that bloody shirt on! Never had to mention the “headache”!)

6th September 2019 at 8:23 pm #47146The “Ifs and buts” and statistics do not interest me.They rarely, if at all, tells the actual story but I can see statistics being interesting to some. If you look at last season, I can just about remember it!!! it stated City won by one point, but nowhere does it say they pulled back 7 points, those are facts.I do acknowledge for the importance of records factual information should always be kept for the games historical event Most fans, as can be seen on here at times, will argue about “ifs and buts” until the cows come home but it changes nothing, game over, move on. I have witnessed many strange incidents over many years and would have driven myself to distraction if I had not switched off at the final whistle

6th September 2019 at 8:46 pm #47148Brian,
Manchester City Won The League Title on Merit ultimately. That I Wholesome Respect.
Recalling the so-called 7 points to my recollection always involved you guys having to play a game to level out.
It’s a bit of a circus easily swamped into and it is what it is.
I’m happy from an LFC point of view to be in this position in the First Place.
The deep in depth analysis I don’t think do my Mental Health any favours.

6th September 2019 at 9:30 pm #47149Nil…that is how you have to look at it When that final whistle goes, it is over for the players, manager, Board and FANS.
Self analysis of any match is a useless occupation_____________________________

6th September 2019 at 9:33 pm #47150Hi Brian. I agree that statistics never tell the whole story, and I too do not care for “ifs and buts”.
But while broadly speaking statistics do not interest you, I know certain statistics that certainly do interest you, the number of wins city earn, the number of goals they score, the number of points they earn etc… the game is full of statistics, champions are decided based on statistics and teams are relegated based on statistics.
Personally I do enjoy stats as is evident. I think they are helpful as its hard enough grasping what happens in even one match visually sometimes, let alone a full season, or multiple seasons. Over long periods statistics are a useful objective resource I think.

6th September 2019 at 9:35 pm #47151PS…Just enjoy the match and look forward to the next one. I remember years ago takeing one of my sons to watch City every home game and at a time when City were looseing more than winning to lower league teams as well, we would walk out of the ground and i would always say to him “Never mind son, it will be better next game” he just enjoys the game now like dad.

6th September 2019 at 10:00 pm #47153Thanks Brian. All True from what you’ve mentioned in essence.
My working pattern is all over the place so at times, I don’t know whether I’m coming or going, though with that in mind, Love Sports Report 5 ‘O’ Clock on BBC Radio 5 Live.
When I a small Teenager, that’s what I enjoyed in the early 90s after ITV seemingly stripped off Elton Welsby and The Full Classified Sports Results.
To mention a little Vidi-Printer on the BBC 4:30 if anything – my cherished upbringing of the Game.

6th September 2019 at 10:06 pm #47154Pep in fairness to him coming into The Premier League faced a challenge;
16-2-lost 1 at one point was driven from Conte’s own Excellence, 2016,17.
2 Premier League Titles Won.
Great Credit.

7th September 2019 at 3:07 pm #47166Lucky, I can only equate my way of looking at it to years of absolute dire City performances but at no time did I say to myself..thats it I have had enough, mind you, I would lieing if I did not say , it nearly happened on a few occasions in the last 75 seasons. Like I have said before, I always go to watch City, first and foremost, secondly I go to watch a football match with 22 players and appreciate the opposition players.The points are won or lost, nothing I can do to change that. City have accumulated a lot of points over the last few seasons but the one that matters to me is Norwich City, a week to day. I am very pragmatic on football issues as you may have gathered but I do respect all views whever they come from. I think we have some of the best fans in the world but also some of te worst

7th September 2019 at 3:17 pm #47167Lucky…I tell you what I do like…I found a City site that goes back to my early era and gives all the scores and teams…so I go along and type in say 1944 season, recall the match I attended and it brings back a flood of wonderful memories. There was a match I attended around this time, played on a freezing Christmas Day, City v Plymouth Argyle..City coasting at HT 3-1, Plymouth came back 3-3 then City got a winner. The real story was, both teams got on a train back to Plymouth…can you imaging that, played the return at Plymouth Boxing day. This was steam railway days just after the war had finished so I think no such thing as an Express or even a good meal on board. How they did it, all of them, I do not knw, never happen to day

7th September 2019 at 3:22 pm #47169For my own personal indulgence I am just going to note a few predictions based on goal averages (gf/ga) so that I can check back at end of season.
Champions
Only one team had achieved an average higher than 4 before pool and city both did it last season. At this stage I see no reason why they will not come very close if not repeating it.My Prediction, Champs will have goal average of 4+
Top 4
I think with leicester and everton in particular in the mix with utd, chelsea, and maybe even arsenal and spurs, these teams are going to eat each other up and reduce the average possibly required to finish top 4.
My Prediction, every top 4 team will have an average of 1.4+
Top 6
Similar logic as top 4 reasoning, I dont think this average will be as high as in some previous seasons.
My Prediction, Every top 6 team will have an average of 1.2+ (would not be too surprised if slightly lower but will go with 1.2)
Top 10
My prediction, Every team in top 10 will have an average of 0.9+
11th-17th
I will make two predictions for teams in this range;
1) No team in this range will average higher than 1
2) No team in this range will average lower than 0.55Relegation
I will make two predictions here also;
1)Any team with an average of 0.45 or less will be relegated
2)None of the 3 relegated teams will have an average of 0.65+_____________________________

7th September 2019 at 7:56 pm #47189Lucky…I can see you get a lot of enjoyment out of this….good luck and whatever makes you tick…keep it going. For me, If I am not at a match I will be sitting in my little room, feet up, a glass of something handy and a good biscuit or three and listen to a match on the radio. Very enjoyable, especiall on a cold wet winters day
PS I may delete the biscuit bit later in case my Doctor sees it

7th September 2019 at 8:31 pm #47191Lucky, admiration mate overall 🙂 I have kept a Scrapbook of USA 1994 that involves ‘data’ out of a Fountain Pen, multi-coloured Bic Byro Pens, and a 15cm Ruler.
My days too of Teletext, Ceefax, and Match and Shoot Magazines 😀 🙂

7th September 2019 at 8:31 pm #47192Cheers Brian, I have often enjoyed listening to matches on radio too, especially when I was a kid, I think only having commentary and crowd to go on really amped up the excitment of it.
