Not one for January but just read this in gossip column on sky sports
“Manchester United are currently reported to be the “only serious bidder” for Erling Haaland but have been told they must qualify for the Champions League to have a chance of signing him next summer”
I can believe utd could sign him but can’t believe it would ne uncontested

16th December 2021 at 12:35 pm #191502I doubt he will go to United Lucky given his Father’s history.
Given nobody can sign Haaland for the buy out clause until the Summer I expect there will be much more than United in for him then.

28th December 2021 at 12:47 pm #192247Lots of cyber fish-wrappings suggesting the deal for Kessie is all but done, although nobody can confirm if he’s coming in Jan or the summer… not really seen him play and assume it’s an “upgrade” on Wee Skippy, can anybody tell me any different?

5th January 2022 at 4:22 pm #192933Would have thought Trippier could have done better than that… I’d still have him back, better than anything we’ve got… and for 12m, no brainer…

6th January 2022 at 1:06 pm #192987AnonymousNine, do they have space for him in the team? I think they bought Buendia to replace yer man. Coutinho could be a closer addition though.
Gerrard will know what he can get out of Coutinho, well some years back anyway.
I hope they don’t pay a lot for him as he’s a massive risk but there is some potential there, if he were utilized correctly. Could just be the papers linking Gerrard with Coutinho and saying GO WITH THAT.
More paper talk says we’re very close to announcing Luis Diaz. That’ll be Mane getting replaced and TBH, as good as he can be sometimes, he isn’t consistent. This will at least give us a top quality option. Let them both fight for the position.
As good as our attack is, it’s not performing to the level it was some years ago. Maybe age has something to do with it… of course Salah being a clear exemption. Jota being an addition since then and is doing fine. Firmino… again, inconsistent but he offers something different.
I’d be delighted to sign Diaz anyway and hope we do it immediately.

6th January 2022 at 1:15 pm #192988AnonymousThe Villa board have told Gerrard that there will be money to spend. He hasn’t been there long but already he’s gotten so many points for them that relegation is much less of a threat. However, the new manager bounce is over and they have just 2 wins from the last 6.
Now, we’ve got to consider the opposition that they have played in those last 6. Losing to Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City is no bad thing for a team like them. They were very much in both the City and Liverpool matches too. 3-1 to chelsea isnt shocking either.
So, with them being on 22 points with half the season gone, the Villa board will be confident with reason, to believe that they will remain in the PL this season. It’s far from assured and they could go on a long losing spell but investing in what they think is a good manager sounds smart to me.
Get in one really good player this window and you’ve done excellently. Is Coutinho that player? That’s the coin toss right there but I’d love to see how it panned out if Im honest.
So, I hope it’s true but I think it’ll be Newcastle.

6th January 2022 at 2:18 pm #192998Listened to the Gerrard press conference on Sky although he was guarded about Coutinho I got the distinct impression Villa are in for Coutinho but so are others allegedly a decision by the weekend on where Coutinho is going.

6th January 2022 at 2:28 pm #192999AnonymousIf there will be a decision by the weekend then I think it’s already been made and they will be dotting i’s.
So I guess it isn’t Newcastle. Good stuff!
I always said that there is still potential in Coutinho, just not in Barca’s possession based game, or as a CM. He needs to be playing AMC, or potentially as an inside forward.

6th January 2022 at 2:39 pm #193002I used to love watching Coutinho at his best at Anfield. Worth a punt for Villa definitely, as Gerrard knows him and what he can do. Get the feeling Coutinho needs to be loved and he never got that at Barca or Bayern. Coul;d be a good move for both player and club.
Chucky is right also about Trippier. Interesting move as I would have thought he could do better than Newcastle. There must be other teams who could afford the fee of Β£12m, but maybe not the wages?? Good signing though…League winner and still first choice at Atletico, current international, and by all accounts, a ‘student’ of the game. Exactly what Newcastle need. But I bet there is a relegation clause in his contract!

6th January 2022 at 3:02 pm #193004Be great to see Coutinho back in the PL he’s a gorgeous player I loved watching him at Liverpool.
As Hightown says Coutinho needs to be loved he will get that from Gerrard if he goes to Villa he could be happy there.

6th January 2022 at 4:14 pm #193008Donβt think couthino is a risk for villa at all. Heβs done nothing in 3 years and itβs absolutely huge chance for him. I think he be a great first signing for villa.
Mak, I highly doubt we will pay 60m for Diaz mate. I think he would excel under Klopp but we donβt have 60m to spend???
I like danjuma as well. Be a cheap option. Would love to see either at the club . Both can play left or right in the 3. I love mane. He can certainly go up another level but it be good to see his place up for challenge . I canβt see us signing anyone this windowuess we get decent money up from the sales of Williams, origi and Philips. I wouldnβt take anything less then 15m for Nat Philips who will go.
Tripper very good first signing. Interesting the link of long staff to Everton and digne Newcastle for 22m.
Sone interesting rumours floating around.

6th January 2022 at 4:33 pm #193010Anonymouswell Sean, the risk involved is how much they spend on him and his wages. I cant see Barca just releasing him but you never know, I suppose. His wages would also need a MASSIVE correction and he’d have to be happy with that, take the money he’s made as payment for a lesson and get his career back on track.
H left the club in a kinda bad way but we still got insane money for him, so he didnt interrupt that. I also think he has had such a bad time since then that I cant really hold any of it against him and genuinely hope he’s a success in the PL again, also taking into note that the PL would be better with him in it.
Nine, he was unreal at LFC, once Klopp showed everyone how he should be played but Barca didn’t seem to take note of that and I am delighted that we bled them dry TBH,as they’ve caused us endless problems with unsettling players etc. I have NO sympathy for Barca at all.

6th January 2022 at 4:58 pm #193012Mak, ye I get what your saying mate. He was some omelet for us but him going was the best thing that could ever happen to us. Stupid money we got for him
I highly doubt anyone will come in for us. I think salahs contract is main priority at the minute

6th January 2022 at 6:05 pm #193016AnonymousAh jesus, no disagreements there Sean. We signed Alisson, Fabinho and Van Dijk on his sale, ok along with some other money coming in from other areas but he was the main reason that we could make those buys.
I only saw that some PL club offered 7m for Nat Philips. WHAT are they smoking? I’m surprised that we’re even considering 15 from Serie A. He was brilliant for us, for an extended run. He isn’t some clown who came in and played 4 times.
I would not even listen to an offer below 20 and think we could get more if we loaned him out but… Tell them to F off with their 15m.
