Steveo – your fellow Arsenal fan is right when he says that it was only when teams got black players of their own that their behaviour improved. I remember well the dark days of standing on the Kop in the 70’s and early 80’s and listening to 18000 singing racist songs. Funnily enough, they stopped when we bought John Barnes…I wonder why! Since then, UK society and even more so, our football teams have become far more multicultural and multiethnic, and this sort of thing just would not be tolerated nowadays. There will always be the odd racist numbskull, who usually hides behind a keyboard, but by and large, I think the problem in England is tiny compared to parts of the Continent, and let’s not forget it’s not just Eastern Europe, Spain and Italy have had major problems recently.

How to solve it is the million dollar question…I’m afraid the decent fans and players will have to suffer through bans from competitions etc. It happened to Liverpool fans, and indeed all English club fans, through our European ban after the actions of a few thugs. Decent people suffered because of the ban, but it worked, on the whole. Never having been to Bulgaria, I’m not sure, but I don’t imagine there is much, if any, of a black population, so it really is ignorance…as it was in England decades ago. Hit them with a severe punishment, and things may improve, but it is a societal problem as much as it is a Bulgarian football problem

i think it is right to ban the club/nation, if that club/nation cannot identify match going fans and eject and ban for life then the authorities should blanket ban

its a funny old world we live in to be sure but the fact is rasicm is not a football probelm it is soicietal and cultural and only when such big tv sporting events are shown are the issues broiught in to the mian stream, they are there all the time

god help us all if we ever meet alien life, we have no chance of a peaceful relationship when we cant get on with our own for looking different!

2 from hudson and a tody hatrick from Nketiea last night, both are very exciting players, Nketiah is doing OK at leeds, hope he gets more playing time there and comes home next year ready for the first team along with our current crop of decent players

If you start banning teams or nations you gonna end up with little competition and the tournaments or leagues will eventually be strangled. Rather focus on thosevfew individuals and ban them for life, there’s no other way. Points deduction well there’s nothing stopping you or me disguised as an enemy opponent fan and shouting abuse at the opposite victims in order to get the opposition club in trouble, it’s already on the go in various countries.

So if you dont ban Bulgaria what do you do?
Fine them.??
A good example of UEFA fining. We were playing, I think v Bemfica when there were racist chants and sadly in that match we started the second half a few seconds late..and it was a few seconds.

The fine.
Benfica for racists chants and monkey noises. £17000 (or euros)
City for starting the second half a few seconds late £33,000.

That demonstrates priorities.

yes ban them, ok so the euros or WC are smaller….GOOD!!!!!!! there are to many now and its the only way that clubs and suporters will change or do more and if they cant change or do more then they can have their own racist league….
