Giroud scored a penalty for France good on him he’s still a very useful squad player to have at Chelsea.

11th October 2019 at 10:48 pm #49954C/Man, agree with everything you say mate. We’re probably beating ourselves up for nowt. 4-2-3-1. Away from Home or not, you get the feeling all day long we sold ourselves short.

12th October 2019 at 12:21 am #49955Sometimes you wish the English Media never right the kind of stories they write. just imagine one tabloid wrote Mason Mount blows his chance when the whole of the England team has been poor? how does that help a young player who is just 20 years old, making their full debut? that is why you see every young player that comes out for England fails. because the English Media are their worst enemy.

12th October 2019 at 1:32 am #49956and if its not the media its club tribal supporters who used to boo their players because they played for the enemy in club land. Lampard was given it with both barrels at times. Then, of course there are other well documented issues which is very sad in this day and age. It could only happen in England and the press are renowned for it. We in Australia and also the press, support representatives of our country all the way. The only ones that are criticised are those that embarrass the country. We have a few male tennis players that fall into that category.

12th October 2019 at 8:46 am #49957Not all the media CMan here’s a headline from the Mail.
“England had a night to forget in Prague…but in Mason Mount the future is bright for a team long searching for a suitable number 10”
That’s Mount’s best position going forwards imo and ultimately where I think Frank will play him as he did v Southampton.

12th October 2019 at 9:06 am #49958I watched the first 70 minutes, and I have to say nobody in a white shirt came out smelling of roses. Maybe the Chelsea lad stepped it up in the last 20 minutes or so but, like everybody else, I wouldn’t say he “stood out” to me… anyway, I’d take the lad from Leicester first, he’s looked a lot better of two from what I’ve seen, Gareth needs to pick one and give them a run rather than chop and change every game…

12th October 2019 at 10:04 am #49959This was an INTERNATIONAL match, my guess any number of clubs from the Championship would have beaten either side, We clamoured for the youngsters, well if there was a positive from that, it was they should have learned more than one lesson. Poor performance by players and Manager for not changing the game plan and players sooner, which still may not have not made any difference because the quality was not there, Kane is a good player and works hard but when the tactic is lump it up to him the opposition can read it easily and we are not talking of top quality team here.Huge gaps in midfield and our central defenders…well what can you say. 2/3 fine saves from Pickford but his distribution poor Rose…why is he on the team sheet? Trippier still not convincing enough. The problem then is….who else is there? I feel this is a performance than can be repeated rather than improved upon

12th October 2019 at 10:21 am #49960Mason Mount..I can certainly see the potential in this lad but what I fear is he will burn out quicker than he should. He needs to be nurtured by Lampard and Southgate not thrust in and expected to turn in star performances, the reason Berkley, still young has not progressed into the player he should be because of the same reason….too much expected at a young age. Sancho, shown nothing last night, Rice not convincing, The alternative is to play older players but that is not answer either. Pep is criticised for not giving Foden playing time but I think the reasons are obvious. I have no answers on the International team and Southgate doing a reasonable job with the players he has but we are sadly lacking in most areas, if not all so, I am looking from some ideas of how to improve, short and long term. There is no magic wand in my opinion

12th October 2019 at 11:16 am #49962The England midfield needs a bite. it’s not about creativity alone as people here are crying. the 3 midfielders that Southgate picked yesterday didn’t compliment each other. at right back i would also play TAA. he is fast and quicker than Tripier. drop all those out of form players ragardless of their status and club. if i was Southgate i would have started with 4-3-1-2 diamond. where i would pair Kane with Abraham and play Barkley in behind them. i would draft Winks to replace Henderson. and play Madison alongside. or swap places between Madison and Barkley.

12th October 2019 at 11:48 am #49963Morning all!
Last night I was watching the game on the ipad and at the same time we were watching John Wick 3 on the TV. Which was the most disappointing? John Wick 1 and 2 were good as were previous qualifying games!_____________________________

12th October 2019 at 1:50 pm #49965England will always come up short against good opposition as we dont have a creative enough midfield…..yet.
How about Maddison, Foden and Mount?_____________________________

12th October 2019 at 2:07 pm #49966Well, you will still be where you are now. swap Foden for Rice for example. can he offer that protection to the back four that Busquets and Kante offer to their respective nations? the answer is no, because he is creative enough for sure, but he is too lightweight. likewise Mount is also lightweight. you need 3 players that compliment each other, and i’m not sure if Mount and Maddison could compliment each other as they play in the same position. at this minute and his tender age, i would blood Mount little by little. the same applies to Foden also as he hasn’t played enough games for City. but definitely i would have benched Rose and Henderson and replace them with players who can do a job like Chilwell for Rose and Winks Henderson.

12th October 2019 at 2:33 pm #49968Foden won’t play for England until he’s playing regularly for Man City Southgate is very clear about this Pep continuously talks Foden up but he still doesn’t play him.
That’s rightly Pep’s choice and he has to do what he think is best for Man City but it won’t get Foden in the England team and we won’t know whether Foden can add a creative edge to England’s play until that happens.

12th October 2019 at 2:45 pm #49969Let’s be honest here, Southgate, nice chap I’m sure that he is, is only manager because there’s really no other British candidates, so he’s there by default. Is he really the kind of guy that can lift and command a dressing room? Not for me. And that’s particularly pertinent given that England have always lacked that togetherness in recent decades. Last best England side I saw is still under Venables at Euro 96 – that was the last time the players seemed to actually enjoy playing together. And what exactly is the game plan with Southgate? A bit like with Hodgson, I can’t quite work it out. The best England sides have been the more expressive ones.

12th October 2019 at 3:10 pm #49973Personally, it seems the selections are going by players being picked from your usual prem clubs.
Fans also lean towards their own and dont think outside the box (pardon the punn).
Couldn’t players from Championship clubs be given a chance?
Even players from other prem clubs, say for example Jack Grealish.
Henderson not good enough for me unless he’s surrounded by better players.

12th October 2019 at 4:36 pm #49975Mikus, true enough very few English candidates were available to manage England at the time of Southgate’s appointment and it was and is rightly or wrongly FA policy now only to appoint an Englishman to manage England and Southgate was readily available given he was already employed by the FA.
Personally I was never pro the Southgate appointment due to his limited Club success but if you cast your net into a pond with very few fish in it you won’t pull out a big fish.
Given all of the circumstances I think Southgate deserved to be given the chance and the recent run of results seemed to confirm that.
I don’t think we should panic about losing the first qualifying game in 10 years and if the policy to only appoint an Englishman who would we turn to anyway.
Southgate has a contract until 2022 he will surely go to the Euro Finals assuming England quality as seems likely where it goes from there will probably depend on England’s performances in the Finals but the question would still remain where do we go from here if the FA policy remains probably quite rightly so that we only hire Englishmen to manage the England team.
