That’s a very elitist view 9, may as well put Scotland, Wales, NI in that category as well…….Pagan

10th November 2021 at 10:27 am #188737There’s a reason that there are 4 Divisions in English Football Pagan everyone has an opportunity of shooting for the top Division but it ensures that the games are generally reasonably balanced.
Look at Brentford they were in the third tier 7 years ago now they’re in the PL. Mikus’s proposal of an International Super League could equally cater for such progress.
I certainly wouldn’t group Scotland and Wales with San Marino both still have a chance of making the World Cup Finals and Wales recently played in the Euro Finals.
San Marino v England is not a balanced game it adds another game to an already overcrowded schedule of fixtures and it puts England players at risk to injury in a completely pointless game.

10th November 2021 at 11:22 am #188743The problem with the current qualifying system is that by treating every country the same, it assumes every country has the same population size and therefore gives them an equal weighting as much larger countries which means they ultimately end up as cannon fodder in the qualifying groups which does them no favours. I’m afraid every country isn’t the same so I really don’t see a problem with a seeding system where, like tennis, the lesser ranked players play each other to qualify – which actually gives them a better chance compared if they had to play Federer and Nadal in a qualifying group.

10th November 2021 at 2:29 pm #188756The only teams moaning about international matches are those in the European competitions, so is the problem the internationals or the European commitment? You can argue whichever way you want to but the root cause of the problem is greed by the bigger teams. If you really want seeding, let’s seed the CL to Champions, and if you get knocked out you don’t get put in the BTec competition……….Pagan

10th November 2021 at 3:07 pm #188762The current format of the CL doesn’t make games like San Marino v England sensible though does it Pagan.

10th November 2021 at 4:22 pm #188765San Marino, I wonder if there’s any interesting facts football wise about them especially against England.
9, the CL changed format, that was a decision purely based on greed, why then should the dreams of players suffer because of that. For a player to walk out at Wembley, the home of football against England, don’t tell me you wouldn’t want that even if it was for San Marino.
Very easy to take your point of view as a Chelsea and England fan, of course you could substitute easy for selfish if you wanted…………Pagan

10th November 2021 at 5:23 pm #188769Fastest goal in the World Cup, scored by San Marino against England. That’s History 9, and it’s magic moments like that that make football, you might not like it with your we’re too good to play you attitude, but take out the top 12 nations and the rest of the world would disagree………Pagan

10th November 2021 at 5:51 pm #188773Yep just ignore the relevant facts Pagan.
San Marino v England: Played 7 Lost 7 For 1 Against 42.
Completely pointless game on Monday night but it really doesn’t matter either way because nothing will change and pointless games will continue to clutter the international football calendar. Enjoy.😊
ps Beaten by Benteke.
“Christian Benteke, Belgium, and Crystal Palace star forward broke the Gualtieri’s record when he knocked down Gibraltar in the defenders by stealing the ball close to the centerline from defender Jamie Bosio. It took him just 8.1 seconds, to net a goal from kick off. Christian Benteke proceeded to net a hat-trick in that game in the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign while goals from Axel Witsel, Dries Mertens, and Eden Hazard saw Gibraltar a 6-0 defeat. The played the game in Portugal as Gibraltar’s Arena did not meet FIFA standards.”The most significant thing was to score soon,” stated Benteke. The striker celebrated the amazing goal by holding six fingers, believing he had netted the goal following six seconds into the game.”
That’s History Pagan. 😊_____________________________

10th November 2021 at 6:11 pm #188774The San Marino goal in 1993 was in the qualifiers for the 94 World Cup, San Marino failed to qualify for that, funnily enough so did England, so not not that much better then😂😂😂………Pagan

10th November 2021 at 6:27 pm #188775A couple of guys on here and quite a lot on other forums make the same point, let the seeded teams up to a certain point automatically qualify f for the world cup, then let the others fight it out for remaining places, this too will give the weaker nations a better chance to qualify assuming they are going to enlarge participants for the actual finals.

10th November 2021 at 6:54 pm #188778I’m not sure what that’s got to do with the price of eggs Pagan but in the qualifying games for the 1994 World Cup the results v San Marino were 7-1 and 6-0 in England’s favour so England were quite a lot better than San Marino.
I think you need to change your posting name to Desperate Dan Pagan.🤣😂🤣

10th November 2021 at 8:36 pm #188782Question I would raise or even a Complaint to the FA is that why for a Match that is Scheduled to be played Saturday has taken involvement of essentially a week where football hasn’t been played?
From Monday the 10th.
Now in the olden days, we’d have had an International Match played Tonight. No Fuss, all done and back to Home base.
Instead, we have such a lead of a build up and then 2 games crammed. A Farce and no wonder Credence is lost and Football Supporters are left feeling Frustrated and Angry too.

10th November 2021 at 8:39 pm #188783I wouldn’t be comfortable with automatic qualification to the World Cup for the top nations.
I do though think it would be a good idea for the likes of Gibraltar, Luxembourg,San Marino and Andorra etc to pre qualify for the qualifiers of both the Euros and the World Cup rather than just being cannon fodder for the top nations every time there are Qualifiers for both tournaments.

10th November 2021 at 8:52 pm #188784Nil, that’s the crux of the whole debate, the modern namby Pamby player can’t be expected to play all those games in such a short period of time, quite how they’d manage a proper job, god knows, and just imagine if they had to do a proper job and play football like they do in some of the lesser countries😂😂😂……….Pagan

10th November 2021 at 9:22 pm #188786Pagan, I agree.
I’m starting to wonder whether we are Brainwashed in the current climate.
Any Player should be able to cope playing. That ultimately is their commitment.
Terms used of ‘high press’ ‘pressing’ ‘high line’ doesn’t fully Convince me. The complete dynamics of the game has changed.
You Are Right. I Fully Agree that we have somewhat Swayed into Mollycoddle. These players should be able to Comfortably Cope with 3 Matches a Week.
The Time I grew up in watching, it was Chips Beans, Rabbit Food and a Beer. Perhaps a Stiff Drink.
Alternative to Choice, Pie and Chips or Steak and Chips and These Players Delivered Lock-Stock-Barrel.
So-called Super Athletic, however, the slightest of tackles then leads to weeks of Absence.

11th November 2021 at 5:05 pm #188827Albania on Friday Brian and San Marino on Monday.
4 points needed to ensure World Cup Final qualification in Qatar although given England’s superior goal difference 3 points would probably be enough.

11th November 2021 at 9:05 pm #188851ThNKS NINE…BUT IT DOES NOTHING TO EXCITE ME. What if we do not get the 4 points and qualify does that mean we have 4/5 players well rested before the nonsensical Boxing Day start up again?

11th November 2021 at 9:09 pm #188853Nil…while I agree that players should comfortably play 2 games in a week, it misses the point of, injuries, that are more likely to happen, that is the danger, not that players can/cannot cope with playing time
