Call ups and quaranteing will effect everyone and impact on the next round of fixtures.

On Thiago Silva’s latest call-up, Tuchel said:

‘He will go and then he will play for Brazil, and then he will come back on the match day versus Brentford.

‘This is the life of international breaks in 2021. Like it or not, what can I do?

‘He’s our player and he arrives on the match day back from a country where he then needs to do quarantine. Is this a good solution for us as a club? No, but we cannot hold himm back. It’s impossible.

‘If they call him, he needs to go, otherwise he gets suspended by FIFA. So there is no choice. You simply have to live with it.’

Given the number of South American internationals in the Premier League, whose home countries are mostly on the red list, the UK government has announced new rules to allow these players to be exempt from quarantine (via The Guardian).

Players who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will be allowed to train and play in games from the day they return, but will still be confined to “bespoke quarantine facilities” for the 10-day period.

Although, stricter conditions will apply for those not fully vaccinated.

It’s exactly this nonsense behind the reason why I wouldn’t be against a bi-annual world-cup, anything to cut down on this annoying international “breaks” (even without COVID!).

Cut down Internationals, full stop. Ban friendlies altogether.

The knock on to this is think of the clubs that are not sending players to International or only maybe one/two. this is a significant loss of revenue for them. OK,, the big clubs loose also but have the added risk of injuries to players as well. International teams do not pay the wages or the ambitions of teams who may have to play without there players.
I can see the game being changed to accommodate all these games. It is also reported that Fifa HQ in Switzerland maybe moved to the USA. “for better management possibilities. World Cup in Houston next!!!! Premier league in New York

Brian, the majority of the games over this international break are World Cup Qualifiers they have to be played in order to stage a World Cup.

I’m sure there is room to cut back a bit on friendlies but friendlies are part of the preparation for these games so there has to be some friendlies player. It’s also worth remembering that the majority of players want to represent their countries and play in World Cups. Club v Country is an age old problem and it’s never going to go away.

I think we should question why World Cup qualifiers in S.America have been scheduled on the Friday before a match day weekend in Europe but in the main these problems are being amplified by Covid and the need to self isolate on return from international duty.

OK Nine, we will have to differ on this with respect. Friendlies, to me are a waste of space and high risk for injuries on a meaningless game they could play against themselves if they show correct attitude The other point about the Qualifiers is valid but my point would be they are expanding the competition, more countries now, so more games. The EPL will be fractionised into part time interest. Players wanting to play for there country???? Not sure about that given the options they have. In addiction this affects 100s of players not involved at all but I guess as long as they get paid they will not mind too much. Cheers, hope you are on the mend

I maybe wrong but I’m pretty sure the number of friendly internationals have decreased dramatically since the start of the Nations League, certainly for European countries. From memory, this was the main reason for it’s introduction.
