As much as I like the principle of Spuds transfer plan, buy ’em young and train ’em up, rather than just splashing the cash (although most of this is because we don’t have the cash to splash), this year and for this year only I would like to see a temporary “postponement” of this policy and perhaps go for a more “risk it for a biscuit”…
I say keep Toby and the Moose and risk losing them for free next summer (or at least 25m in Toby’s case ’cause of his “clause), and right now I reckon we have enough youngsters that need molding, and basically spunk our budget on bringing back Modders and Bale…
Still want some banging fall-backs, but if we go 3-4-3 with the following:
GK Hugo
CB Toby, Jan and David
MD Dier, Moose, Modders and Erickson
AT Bale, Kane, Ali..I reckon that would give most sides a run for their money…

13th May 2018 at 4:35 pm #21610Wouldn’t it be a bit of risk to buy Modric and Bale? Modric is turning 80, and Bale hasn’t played anything like a full season since 2014-15 mainly due to injuries. So that’s him struggling with fitness the last three seasons.
Both would still cost a fortune, even Modric at his advanced age. Modric is also a playmaker, and so is Eriksen.
I know Eriksen plays in a more attacking role, but can you play both without limiting them at the same time?Wouldn’t Spurs be creating their own version of the Lampard-Gerrard problem?

13th May 2018 at 5:26 pm #21615AnonymousChucky, I’d risk Bale but not Modric, I think wages would stop either of them coming though .We will need to spend a lot of beer vouchers to stay in the top 4.You bet your life Chelsea will be back and a new manager at Arsenal will surely put them in the running for CL places. Will Baldy spend big ,not a chance, welcome back the Europa in 2019/20.

13th May 2018 at 6:28 pm #21621Fair comments (except for Goose-man)… thinking Modders’ playing next to Moose in central/defensive midfield, with Wee Erik either in the front 3 in a 3-4-3 or still in the 3 in a 4-2-3-1… both a risk, granted, and cost a lot of beer vouchers, but in a round about way I reckong they’re about the only real top draw players we could get, giving them the “unfinished bussiness” argument etc… can’t see who else we could get who would improve the 1st 11 and push us to that next level….

14th May 2018 at 12:55 pm #21670AnonymousChucky, very interesting post match comments from Poch.reading between the lines it’s “Back me with big money to buy and sell, or it’s Ciao Baldy.”
Poch has taken us as far as he can under the wage and transfer restraints and it;s clear he now wants to take the next step up which all the supporters and players want. It’s now down to Baldy to make or break this team, it’s still not too late to offer Toby higher wages and keep him at the club. If he is allowed to go this will ring alarm bells for supporters and have other teams queuing up to cherry pick our players.
A huge few months for Spurs ,I just hope DL bites the bullet and takes us to the next level,at the end of the day he has the power to make or break this team and the club._____________________________

14th May 2018 at 1:22 pm #21672Can’t disagree with a word of that….
This summer it’s all basically down to Danny-boy and whether he has the kahunas or not… we can all see the excuse coming, what with the new space-ship soon to be landing, but we can all dare to dream, can’t we?
Either Danny-boy goes nuts with the credit card, or we’ll be best of the rest until some sort of wage-cap/salary-cap comes into effect… in about 40 years or something! 🙂

14th May 2018 at 1:24 pm #21673Levy is notoriously stingy with transfer funds and wages and Spurs can only spend what they generate and then there’s the new ground to fund.
If Poch isn’t happy with the Spurs business model he would probably have to go because under all of the current circumstances I can’t see it changing that much.

14th May 2018 at 2:25 pm #21680Chucky,
1) Has Levy historically spent generously on wages and transfers? Yes or No.
2) Can a club spend more than it generates under FFP? Yes or No.
3) Do Spurs have the burden of a new Stadium to pay for? Yes or No.
If you answer honestly all the above questions every one will be a No!

14th May 2018 at 3:15 pm #21683Not compared to United and The Oil Firm. But historically Spurs probably never were closer to the real top than they are these last few years. And to stay there, they need to spend more than they have done. So what has been the case historically doesn’t count for that much, I think.
And surely Spurs are able to spend more than what they have done these past few years.

14th May 2018 at 3:26 pm #21684Thanks for the history lesson, Goldie, and for yet again stating the bleedin’ obvious, much appreciated, wasn’t aware that the club I’ve been following for the last 40 years operated in such a manner. But as you’re so good at predicting the future and obviously have a direct line to Danny-boy’s office, can you tell me this week’s lottery numbers and confirm our summer signings?
Many thanks in advance…. 🙂

14th May 2018 at 3:28 pm #21685That’s about the sum of it, Bacon-muncher, is Danny-boy going to stick or twist?
(Even if Goldie can predict the future, we’ll pretend he can’t as he’s just a dog! 🙂 )
