20th May 2018 at 6:16 pm #21948Fair do’s Nil. Let’s put this one to bed now.
I wish you all the very best for next week mate but I guarantee if you bring the trophy home on the back of a one nil that you have to defend you wont be complaining!?

It doesn’t matter how you play in finals. It’s all about winning
Congrats on yday. Great to have all your family around you celebrating the win
I do think utd are getting a bit of undeserved stick. They created a few chances in the 2nd half.

20th May 2018 at 6:56 pm #21950Chucky, I’ve no problem admitting you outplayed us in the league game at Wembley. Spurs were very good in that game. But the point stands that when it came to a crunch knock out game, your star players disappeared in the cup.
If you don’t buy the average squad card us Yooutd boys keep playing, I’ll ask again. How many of our players would you swap for your own first team players? Assuming it’s not many, you’re indirectly agreeing with me that ours isn’t a great squad.
Yes we have players on stupid amounts of money. Look at Spurs wages though compared to Newport County and Rochdale. Way bigger difference there than between Utd and the other top 6 sides! Yet Spurs couldn’t put them away.

20th May 2018 at 7:09 pm #21951As for the “some of this squad won the title with Fergie” point. They did but that was a poor Utd side, the one that won the league in his last season. Ddg aside, you’re talking players like Young, Valencia, Jones and Smalling. Hardly the catalysts of that last league winning side!

20th May 2018 at 7:12 pm #21952Sean, I honestly don’t think it’s a great squad. We’ve got very good depth but our first XI lacks real star quality. Sanchez has been poor since he came in but I think he’ll get better. Lukaku is decent. Pogba is inconsistent. Herrera decent. Rashford very young and inconsistent. Martial I don’t think is the player he looked like when he first burst onto the scene. Matic is decent. Behind them, Valencia is ok. Bailly will hopefully get back in the side as I like him. The rest, DDG aside, should be squad players at best

20th May 2018 at 7:13 pm #21953Fergie’s team on that title 2013 to me draws a parallel with Dalglish’s Liverpool of 1990.
Both reached a point where it had done it’s peak mileage. Kenny left Liverpool in a decent position where it could have maybe bagged one more title, but there was always transition around the corner and a overhaul as with Fergie’s boys, as a few of the top dogs were calling it a day with their careers – a few already did.
I feel as an outsider, I must say, something with this team has been amiss that to me has reflected too on it’s identity.

20th May 2018 at 7:16 pm #21954Nine, @ 6:16, thanks for the kind wishes mate, and YES, I would happily take a 1-0, but my head says, we’re set for lot’s of goals, and could be something very similar to Istanbul, haha.
Cheers

20th May 2018 at 7:48 pm #21956The way you YooUtd puppies keep bleating about it, you would think they’d been flirting with relegation or something, hence the need to spend 700 million quid to get back up with the big boys… oh, wait, that’s not quite true, is it? 🙂

20th May 2018 at 7:59 pm #21958Nil. I think you’re right I don’t want to jinx it because I’m really looking forward to the game but I think it might well be a high scoring game and it may well come down to who can score the odd goal in seven.
It won’t be easy but if Liverpool bring their offensive A game and remain strong defensively I think they’ve got a real chance of coming back with the trophy.
But yesterday reminded me of why I’ve always hated Finals until they’re over and there’s bound to be a bit of suffering for you Liverpool lads next Saturday.
Just as long as you’re still winning when the Ref blows that Final whistle as we were yesterday that’s the sweet bit. 🙂

20th May 2018 at 8:12 pm #21960United’s problem is the same as everyone else’s they are trying to chase down a City team who started with a much stronger squad in 2016/17 which has been further strengthened last summer and in January and will be further strengthened again this Summer.
They were Runners up in both the major domestic competitions and other than City they are the only club in the top 6 who have increased their points total from last season.

20th May 2018 at 9:05 pm #21967That’s about the gist of it Nine. Anyone would think we’d gone down by the fuss. I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made. People point to those of our fans who aren’t happy with our style of play and I completely get that. It’s because our fans have been spoilt beyond belief for a quarter of a century and expect nothing less than for that to continue.

20th May 2018 at 10:44 pm #21972Nine, good call.
I do actually agree with Manchester United chasing Manchester City
There is to me a turning point and something significantly Epic going back to October 2011 and 6-1 at Old Trafford.
From then on it was on the cards of a pukka Manchester City threat and poise.
Liverpool had this exact scenario with Manchester United after their first League Championship was won in 1993 and they subsequently won it in 1994 along with an FA CUP.
Roy Evans was finding his way with Steve McManaman, Jamie Redknapp, and Robbie Fowler, but didn’t have that power or control like Alex Ferguson did with Lee Sharpe and Ryan Giggs.
Those guys chosen that type of a lifestyle and to be fair looking back, it was what it was, but Liverpool evidently peaked at best 60 to 80% where as Man United broke records and won trophy after trophy.
With Pep signing this new contract, I wonder whether something similar in another era altogether is about to unfold.
Cheers

21st May 2018 at 8:10 am #21974Silly-Willy-Nilly… buddy, you’re drinking too much of the Goldie Coolaid mate, stating the bloody obvious and all that, City for the next 2 years at least in the Prem, not even “Maureen And His Amazing Checkbook!” can catch this lot. We’re all playing for 2nd for the foreseeable future…

21st May 2018 at 8:30 am #21975“Catch us if you can” The Dave Clarke 5 sang. Seems a preety appropriate song for City that.?
Be tough for anyone to do that with this City squad, Guardiola there until 2021 and City still throwing hundreds of millions at it.
