That’s a decent idea Ed I like that
If only more was done to encourage attacking football in general_____________________________

14th July 2021 at 9:04 am #181702Tough on shaw Ed but the Italian left full was brilliant I have to say
Maguire was outstanding but I’m still not fully convinced. His passing was exceptional. He really was excellent and is a proper leader . Liverpool bought vvd and started conceding less goals. Utd still concede to many goals with Maguire in there but a new partner might solve that.
Walker was excellent. Mount was disappointing. The lad had a great season but he wasn’t great. Pogba was excellent
Bruno was terrible but he looked exhausted
Varane was poor aswell but mbappe was the biggest disappointment. Has a bit of an attitude problem by the looks of it aswell

14th July 2021 at 9:16 am #181703I thought Varane looked good Sean to be honest. Pogba I thought had a mixed tournament. The usual flashes of genius mixed with the usual lapses of concentration to give the ball away.

14th July 2021 at 7:35 pm #181707Ed…I can never work out Pogba, he is clearly very talented but something is missing, probably down to concentration levels and as you say this competition highlighted that

14th July 2021 at 7:38 pm #181708Sean…agree with all you say apart from Pogba and have to go along with Ed on this. Maguire, who I never rated but has blossomed into a real player and leader, If he gets a good partner Utd will have solved there defensive problem

14th July 2021 at 7:42 pm #181709Ed…good idea but I would go for the Golden goal…the first to score…that should give them all the incentive they need to get forward instead of passing around own penalty area

14th July 2021 at 10:51 pm #181710I’ve always thought Maguire is quality but he does require a fast CB alongside him. His organisation, leadership and physical dominance is outstanding, as is his passing range.

15th July 2021 at 7:45 am #181711AnonymousSouthgate is an idiot England will never win anything under him, only reason we got so far is the luck of the draw.

15th July 2021 at 3:40 pm #181720Euro 2020 ranked second best by Planet Football?
Well, who expected this?
The players were meant to be tired after an exhausting season. The format was supposed to inhibit adventurous football. The quality wouldn’t be as high as the Champions League anyway.
Euro 2020 has simply been the best tournament in years. There have been more goals per game than any World Cup or Euros since 1982, a handful of all-time classic matches, drama and excitement in almost every game and the usual selection of brilliant goals.
And England (England!) progressed all the way to the final, sweeping the nation into hysteria and making Atomic Kitten relevant again.
It may have ended in heartbreak, but Euro 2020 has better than we ever could have hoped for.

15th July 2021 at 4:27 pm #181722Nine…absolutely right. I was pleased with the overall performance by England and thought Southgate did a good job apart from the tactical plan in the Fianal and penalty shoot out rota, however, I hope he takes us to WC. our youngsters will emerge better players through this experience.

15th July 2021 at 5:41 pm #181723Not that I care whose in charge but I think Howe would make a great manager for England, he comes across as an intelligent guy.

16th July 2021 at 8:47 am #181729I also think Howe would be a good choice but really it’s tough to be an England manager, Southgate did OK but I thought he could have done a bit more. Your sense of corrective thinking can desert you when the pressure is at its utmost peak.

16th July 2021 at 1:06 pm #181733Given that Southgate has said he wants to take England to the World Cup in Qatar and the FA have said they would like to see him go further than that I don’t think we have to worry to much about who might succeed Southgate just yet, but I’m sure the FA have a provisional list of potential candidates to eventually replace Southgate and that Howe might well be on it

16th July 2021 at 2:55 pm #181742AnonymousThough I don’t really rate Southgate myself you cannot blame him for the selection of penalty takers as these were based on the best penalty takers during the practice sessions, unfortunately when it comes to the real thing you got to have character and a bit of courage.

16th July 2021 at 3:51 pm #181748MistraMoos, I don’t think anyone can question any of the penalty takers character or courage, they stepped up to the plate, what you can never train for or replicate is the pressure in any given circumstance and how it will affect you at a given moment in time……….Pagan
