Sad news on the eve of the Final

“We’re sad to have learned that Paul Mariner, who made 35 appearances for the #ThreeLions, has passed away at the age of 68.

Mariner represented England between 1977 and 1985, scoring 13 goals.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family, friends and former clubs.”

Very sad news indeed, Nine, about Paul Mariner.
He played in the same team as my Dad at Chorley as an 18 yo back in the early ’70s. I recall Dad telling me that Paul would play at the highest level and that came so true.
RIP and condolences to all his family and close friends.

Best of luck guys. Don’t think you will ever get a better chance. Home game with a huge crowd behind you in a final is a massive advantage and you have to take this opportunity. Be a huge chance missed. Everything going for England so far in this tournament. 6 games out of 7 at home and roared on by the crowd. Can only see England winning.

Pity a few English fans are acting the Bollix by trying to storm into Wembley but there always a few when it comes to England.

Interesting line up. Mount has been quite disappointing and doesn’t deserve his place in my opinion. Maybe he will turn up tonight.

Very defensive againest a team who have only two real threats but it is a final. Southgate now concerned about Italy then his own team. Usual game plan so no surprise really

Be a very tight boring game. Pickford is due a mistake hopefully it’s not tonight

Sean, totally agree with all of that mate.

Just looked at the line up and those were my exact thoughts.

Good point on Pickford; that can happen because of the prospect of being pushed into our own half and our backs are then against the wall and the whole aura of the occasion becomes tense and nervy – especially if we’ve not been attacking at the other end.

Maybe I’m over thinking this a bit but hoped for a more of a better team selection and a positive line up.
