50/50? Stevie Wonder might think that, I would say about 98/2 myself and that’s being generous.

8th July 2021 at 1:49 pm #181459Congratulations to England on getting through to the final.
I’m not overly dissappointed, even if getting there ourselves would have been fantastic. But if anyone had said the word semifinal before the tournament, I’d have taken it gladly. Especially after the incident with Eriksen.I think England played better than us in the second half and during the entire extra time, so based on that England deserved it.
Of course Raheem Sterling dived. It wasn’t a penalty. Maybe we shouldn’t have had the freekick that Damsgaard scored on. But as far as gifts from the ref goes, a penalty is a heck of a lot of a bigger gift. But no matter what England did enough to earn their place in the final. No argument there.
Something I will say is that I found it to be very poor taste that the English fans booed during our national anthem. That happened against the Germans as well. I hope that doesn’t happen in the final against Italy. That is just disrespectful and shouldn’t happen.
And the laser pen in Schmeichel’s face as the penalty was about to be taken? What an absolute idiot you must be to do that. All that being said, England was the better team on this occasion, I think we did well to reach the semis, so all good and best of luck in the final.
I think you have a great chance of winning it._____________________________

8th July 2021 at 2:17 pm #181460Srd, the booing of national anthems is ridiculous. The Germans, Scots and Welsh all boo ours when we play them and vice versa. It’s all a bit of pantomime stuff really when the idiots have had a few drinks. I don’t think there is any malice in it. In fact, I think it is more likely to have the opposite effect. Absolutely no idea why the English would boo Denmark’s though. All very silly.
Commiserations for yesterday. Denmark had a great tournament.

8th July 2021 at 2:32 pm #181461Couldn’t understand the booing of Schmeichel either and the laser thing was awful. Putting both incidents aside and the booing of the Danish National Anthem which I just can’t understand and I hope we don’t hear the same on Sunday overall the England fans have given terrific support to the England team.
I thought SRD’s post summarised everything perfectly.
Nice touch by Mason Mount too.

8th July 2021 at 3:16 pm #181464AnonymousArsΓ¨ne Wenger on England’s penalty: “No penalty. I don’t understand why in situations like that the VAR, the referee doesn’t go & look on the screen. In a moment like that, he has to be absolutely sure.”. ArsΓ¨ne Wenger on Mark Clattenburg agreeing that it was not a penalty: “If even the referees agree with us, what can you say, that doesn’t often happen!”

8th July 2021 at 5:09 pm #181465Was a good game last night, in patches England played really well, and on balance were the better team.
On to the talking points, the Danish wall moving, not sure without an aerial view if they were or werenβt a yard away from the English wall, they are allowed to be closer to the ball than 10 yards, think weβll see more of that technique in games from now on, personally I thought it was very clever to move as a unit to unsight the keeper.
The penalty, weβll there was a little contact and Sterling made the most of it, replays show that he went down very easily from minimal contact, and to be fair VAR did what it says on the can, it said it wasnβt a clear and obvious error and didnβt try to re referee an incident.
As a follow on, the penalty itself was dreadful, but the rebound was thankfully put away.
Casper got booed for his pre match comments about football coming home, as for the booing of National Anthems, we as a nation donβt in general put a great reverence on either ours or our flag, other nations do, so what we think is a bit of banter others find offensiveβ¦β¦.Pagan

8th July 2021 at 6:47 pm #181466Harsh penalty and we would have been cross if it had been the other way.
Also strictly to the rules their goal should not have stood according to some as Denmark players were too close to the wall.Anyhow we won. Lets hope for Sunday!
Nine. How are you?

8th July 2021 at 7:30 pm #181468Snakey, article on the BBC about how Sweet Caroline has become a England footy anthem, incredibly lazy journalism as it fails to mention how itβs been used in cricket, especially T20 for years nowβ¦..Pagan

8th July 2021 at 9:09 pm #181471Steve…Saka is still very young, agree he did a few good moments but need to look for the ball more, which will come in time. The collective performance is importance at this level. Just not involved enough for me but again he is one for the future and I will look forward to him blossoming. The difference was when Grealish/Foden came on, both active in both directions

9th July 2021 at 12:08 am #181472I think there is a big difference between diving and what we saw with Sterling yesterday. For me, diving is what we used to see Mr Klinsmann do so incredibly dramatically. Sterling and other fleet-footed pacey players the world over, rely on being light-footed and sometimes the slightest touch is enough to send you tumbling simply through your own bio-mechanics (ever seen a tiny little ankle tap send a union winger to the ground???). This is no different. I have no doubt, from the angles I’ve seen that Sterling got enough contact at the speed he was going to warrant him being sent to the ground. The next question, and the most important one IMO is, is it a foul though???? I personally think it was, but sometimes you see them given and other times you don’t. Remember the last WC where even the most minute of touches was overturned by VAR to be given as a pen? That happened a lot in that WC. The ref believed it was a pen and VAR had to try and prove otherwise. Was there contact? I don’t think anyone can say there wasn’t. So VAR had to go with the onfield decision. Those are the rules

9th July 2021 at 8:18 am #181473The majority of people all over the tv etc are saying it was not a pen foxy.
Seen salah get them and people going mad on here over it.
Itβs cheating. Vardy, salah, Sterling, Kane are all at it.

9th July 2021 at 9:53 am #181474Why is a Penalty decision still debated? I don’t get it?
I avoided yesterday, but inevitably, there was on my channel, youtube thumbnail prompts, from Talksport about certain pundits not agreeing with it.
There are a number of Danish players surrounding Sterling in the vicinity and at least 2 of them contributing to the disruption of his momentum. The ball isn’t won by law fairly, and contact is made. It’s a clear penalty in my view, no doubt about it.
Foxy perfectly put re Klinsmann.
It’s actually refreshing to see the Penalty given. Over the balance of play, Kane had a clear penalty decision not given in the second half. Why aren’t people speaking about this?
It’s all legitimate in my eyes and we’re through to the final by merit, fair and square.

9th July 2021 at 10:17 am #181475I just liked my own post by accident. Any way to remove that? π
Nil, no argument that England were the better team on the night and they did deserve it.
It’s probably still discussed because Sterling dived and because of the time it was given.
Many pundits (who thenselves are former players), managers and former top refs have said it wasn’t a penalty. Of course Sterling was surrounded by Danish defenders trying to disrupt him. That’s what defenders do. But Sterling left his leg hanging and contact was varely there. Sterling played a bigger part in that penalty being given than the defenders. He seeked the penalty more than anything.
IMO a shame that he did it. He has played a very good tournament and I think England would have won regardless of the penalty. If it had not been given I’m sure England would have kept up the pressure and I doubt we could have kept England at bay one man down and most players dead tired. Smart move by Sterling, but I think you have to be English to like it ππI’m looking forward to the final. It’s the two teams who have been the best overall, IMO. I’d give the edge to England because of the game being played in London and because Kane hit form. England have more firepower as I see it, but this Italy team is hard to break down. Should be a good game!

9th July 2021 at 10:46 am #181476Would love for anybody to post a clip/angle/view of where the contact was made, as I haven’t seen one yet… and even if there was contact, it was nowhere near enough to knock him down…

9th July 2021 at 10:53 am #181477The whole world including those neutrals that favour England but not including most England supporters say there was no contact, the eye sees what it wants to believe, real truth means nothing nowadays.

9th July 2021 at 11:02 am #181479Foul or not, if you find yourself in a position on the pitch where two of your defenders are having to almost sandwich a running attacking player off the ball, youβre asking for trouble in this day and age.
Sterlings right knee gets clipped followed by a hip barge from the other sideβ¦.how is that βnot touchedβ? try staying on your feet while sprinting with a ball and that happens pic.twitter.com/6LsSVxkaJd
