If Southgate plays a back 3 then I would go Chilwell as he offers more going forward. Shaw if it’s a back 4. I agree, Shaw was shithouse on the run home, Chilwell was outstanding. Another thing is, does Shaw need Maquire alongside him to perform. The last Manu games without Maguire suggested so.

Again, there’s absolutely nothing to back up this theory that Chilwell offers more going forward. Not a single stat backs that up. Shaw created the second most chances of any defender in the league, second only to TAA (and more than double the number Chilwell created per 90mins and in total). I genuinely don’t believe anyone can say that who has been watching Shaw all season.

Shaw’s form did dip in the last few games which is a good argument for going for Chilwell to start. No issue with that. But that he offers more going forward? Not for me. 1 in 5 of Chilwell crosses were successful against 1 in 3 for Shaw. Massive difference.

I’m not digging out Chilwell at all here but it’s a complete myth that Shaw doesn’t offer enough going forwards.

Shaw is excellent going forward .better then chilwell when attacking in my opinion. Two very good options to have.

Ye lucky I was at all of Jack charm tims home ganes up until 95. I’m a bigger Liverpool fb then Ireland but would love to see us in the euros this year but I think this is the worst Irish side since the 80s

I guess that’s a good point for Wales considering they were outplayed for large parts of the game. 2 tough games for them now to go through. A defeat would have made it almost impossible I think.

Sean, it’s a shame to not see the Irish there. Great set of fans. It’s unfortunate for Ireland that both Rice and Grealish chose to play for England as they’d have made a massive difference to that side.
