Beyond disappointing but credit to Scotland for upping their game and playing with so much heart and commitment great full international debut from young Billy Gilmour.
England will still get out of the Group but will then come up against better teams.
The transfer speculation surrounding Kane has led to him looking less than ordinary difficult to see anyone being tempted to pay anywhere near £100m for him and he’ll probably get stuck playing where he doesn’t want to be which won’t help him or Spurs.
I blame Southgate for not wearing his waist coat.😊

19th June 2021 at 7:46 am #180608The Kane situation is a really odd one now Nine. On these 2 showings, I wouldn’t want my club spending £50mil on Kane, never mind three times that. Talk this morning of a reunion with Poch at PSG. That might be his only option, though I’m not sure even PSG would pay anything over £80mil

19th June 2021 at 8:11 am #180610Have to say I’m generally surprised at the negative reaction to England’s performance. England have played 2 games and have 4 points. England didn’t need to win the Scotland game and are learning that in international football you do not need to lose your heads chasing a result you don’t need just for pride, or to appease fans or the media. I am old enough to remember moaning at Englands performance in virtually every tournament for the last 40 years and England have never looked as comfortable at the start of a tournament. There are no easy games at this level, the important thing is to get to the knock out stages without injury and without exhausting your players who have already had long seasons, to allow the team to grow into the tournament. England are, for all intents and purposes through to the next round, possibly even with a loss against the Czechs, whereas Scotland are in all likelihood going home with that result. England are not amongst the favourites for this tournament and should be using it as a stepping stone to gain more experience for the World Cup next year. We have a lot of young technically gifted but inexperienced players who are learning the right things and we do not need to play the ‘blood and thunder’ football that got us nowhere in the past. Don’t listen to the 3 dinosaur pundits on ITV who haven’t got an ounce of experience of international football success between them.

19th June 2021 at 8:16 am #180611That’s actually a very good point Mike. We have a tendency to get carried away both positively and negatively after a result. That might be the wake up call we need. Worth remembering that Portugal won the last Euros having not won a single group game. Belgium were completely outplayed by Denmark a few days ago too

19th June 2021 at 8:58 am #180612Saying we have 4 points isn’t enough you have to look at their performances and both were average or bad
Totally unbalanced lost the midfield no cutting edge
Kane shouldn’t start at the moment
Take Foden off as our best player and leave Stirling?
It was like watching Arsenal lots of sideways passing no directness and lots of unforced errors
If and it’s still a big if for me that we progress we will comfortably lose against the first semi decent side we face unless there are some big changes_____________________________

19th June 2021 at 9:05 am #180613Steve, who else has been great though? France definitely. Belgium were completely outplayed by a poor Denmark side. Spain were toothless against a resilient Sweden. Germany were poor. Italy look decent enough but haven’t really been tested yet.

19th June 2021 at 9:34 am #180614You say that Ed but if anyone of those you mention play us they will win at a canter
You look at our squad and they should on paper be so much better
Or is it as has been said that most of our players are on pedestals and not haps as good as we think when not surrounded by world class foreign players ?
If you think I’m being harsh and you do tend to pull me up every time Ed I notice whilst other negative comments slip by unchallenged it’s because I want more from a squad I believe could and should offer more
Last night was so poor and a hell of an anticlimax
Just my half glass empty view 😁_____________________________

19th June 2021 at 9:34 am #180615Although I would have liked to have won the match, I am not too dissaointed, mainly because we have a very young side and it was obvious that “gelling” has not happened yet but they did not do much wrong either. We lacked a leader though, this should have fallen to Kane but as already stated, he has not been good enough in the last two games and just went through the motions of playing and with no leadership attributes. On the bench we had little that would really have done much different, although Grealish did make an effort to do something different Thought Mings and Stones did well again and surprised when he took Foden off, I would have taken Kane off much earlier. Kane has done one thing right, he has driven his price down after these two no shows!!!!

19th June 2021 at 9:34 am #180616M Mike, inclined to agree and all valid points, but the Football really was dire to watch, and it felt like we were bossed on our own turf. Not good unless that was the intentional game plan.

19th June 2021 at 9:38 am #180617Certainly not my intention Steve. You make some very good points. If I pull you up more than others it’s because you probably seem the most extreme when it comes to the negativity. You’ve been saying since day one that we’d get hammered by the first decent side we played.

19th June 2021 at 9:38 am #180618Maybe we could scrape our way to a tournament win but like many club fans we don’t just want to win we want to deserve to win by playing well
I didn’t think we looked like losing either to be fair but I really hope this squad steps up
You hear them talk and they say the right things but then don’t do a thing they have talked about when they step on the pitch it’s baffling to me personally
As I mentioned Southgate is very likeable and talks very well but then you see a display like last night just like under every other manager we have
We just can’t seem to find that key and players and style of play that most top teams develop that works for them
I would love to be shut up by the team doing what I think they are capable of but never deliver_____________________________

19th June 2021 at 9:41 am #180619I honestly believe they Ed
I don’t see it as extreme especially after watching last nights display
I am however very negative but in my defence I’ve been watching Arsenal 🤣🤣
I’m
Negative yes but honestly I don’t want to be I just refuse to make excuses so I can feel less negative I’d rather be made to feel happy by what should be a very good team actually playing to their potential and making me!_____________________________

19th June 2021 at 9:44 am #180620And I do enjoy you pulling me up Ed tho we both know it’s like shooting fish in a barrel to you and you will run rings around me 🤣
Keep at it good sir it’s what keeps the site lively and I don’t take it personally in any bar sense but my certain brand of negativity seems to hit you more than others 🤣🤣

19th June 2021 at 9:47 am #180621There is something in what lousy stereo b ut i think the situation is more basic, in so far as we have no leader. Kane, Maguire certainly not nearest we have is Henderson and he is not fit enough. This is where you maybe right, when we come against better teams we have no “glue” to keep us together. It maybe stretching it a bit to say they are on “pedestals” but I know what you mean, for example. Mason Mount….he is a very good talented player and I like him a lot but not a game changer, to win a game but when the going is tough like last night he has the vision to do better. I am also not singling him out because you could apply same logic to others…thinking about there personal games rather than the team collective. Finally, as I stated previous, we should not get hung up about this, the team is young and purposeful but just lacks leadership….or a good old kick yp the pants!!!

19th June 2021 at 9:58 am #180624I think you were right first time Brian … lousy Steve 🤣🤣🤣
I’d love us to smash a team and by that I mean play very well even if it’s just a 2-0 win
The reason I get so annoyed is it the players are capable but don’t
You are right Brian in leaders and often too many individual play not team play m
Individuals brilliant but average as a team_____________________________

19th June 2021 at 10:01 am #180626999 but he doesn’t do that for England like Kane doesn’t and many others ? Is he being played differently to his strengths? I don’t think foden is being played in his best position
We are also missing a midfielder with skill to link the play
To sideways and slow_____________________________
