18th June 2021 at 9:41 pm #180584Yeh, can we change the international VAR for the premier league VAR? Seems a lot more measured.

18th June 2021 at 9:46 pm #180587We’ve been roughed up from the off, no Leadership, no Authority, No Foothold. England have been Thwarted.

18th June 2021 at 9:53 pm #180589One or two players disappeared in the second half eg Mount.
Shaw’s distribution was at best very average.
Kane is just not at the races. Why? Is he injured or perhaps something else?_____________________________

18th June 2021 at 9:55 pm #180590Thatβs a bit unfair Nil, Grealish comes on with 20 odd minutes to go with the team playing not to lose, which is basically the story of the way England have played in every major tournament for the last 30 years…..Pagan

18th June 2021 at 9:56 pm #180591Why on earth was Sterling still on and Sancho not given a chance? Sterling lost the ball so many times. Him and Kane were very poor up top.

18th June 2021 at 10:00 pm #180593Mings, Shaw and Pickford the only players Sky Sports gave at least a 7. All at the back. Says it all.

18th June 2021 at 10:05 pm #180595When Pickford is then man of the match against Scotland it says something was very wrong. Kane was absolute crap…again. Philipps and Rice were bang average, and Sterling…well, I’m sorry, but he really ain’t all that good.
Very poor showing, but maybe the master plan is to finish 2nd in then group?

18th June 2021 at 10:09 pm #180596I think we just love the individualistic celebrity culture in this country. We love putting players on pedestals. We probably talk about Euro 96 more than the Germans do, when though they won it because we love talking about Gazza and the celebrations.
Watching France, Spain, Italy so far, they all *look* like actual teams who know exactly each part they have to play. We donβt. Interestingly, both France & Spain went a long time without winning a tournament. Then they invested in coaching. But I just donβt know if thereβs a desire to really change things what with the premier league which is where the real focus is.

There are names hyped up when unleashing them find themselves almost Men against Boys.
The Nostalgia revved Scotland more and more, plus, the Political Shenanigans.

18th June 2021 at 10:33 pm #180600Chucks, same old same old mate. More chance in us facing Humiliation than Triumph. I like Southgate, but will never have any Fire in his Belly whatsoever.

18th June 2021 at 10:57 pm #180601Billy Gilmour has won man of the match tonight in his first start for Scotland against that much-hyped England midfield. And he is only 19 years old. I’m kicking myself not to understand why he can’t start for Chelsea week in week out. But that is another story.
Southgate should have played 3-5-2 put pressure on Scotland. A second striker plus two attacking Wingbacks would have given the English midfield some breathing space to create chances. And that is why Chilwell would have been a candidate to start, his crosses and attacking experience would have been invaluable, and he would have contributed as he has done for Chelsea countless times. For God’s sake, the boy is a European Champion! Southgate has to show some respect for him. Unless he is testing his character. But England needs him more than Shaw and Tripier.
Benching Marcus Rashford is another mistake that Southgate is making. He is the best attacking player that England has, his pace and experience are vital to the team. It seems that the Mount is played on an empty tank, Southgate should have rested him tonight. The boy was playing a 60 + game for Chelsea alone, and it’s a total he may have played 70 games this season, the highest in the squad. So his below-par performance is understandable. And Finally, can I ask Southgate why Sancho isn’t getting any minutes when England needs a goal?

19th June 2021 at 3:59 am #180602I agree about the celebrity pedestal comment. Gascoigne was undoubtedly one of the most talented, if not the most talented footballer this country has produced. However, on the England stage how much did he actually deliver? If you look at other country’s greatest products, they’ve all pretty much won a shitload of national honours and a shitload of caps. Gascoigne had 57 caps and 10 goals. Now you hear about Grealish being labelled the new Gascoigne, well I hope not, I hope he is better.
I like Grealish but the way people go on about him you would think he is one of the best footballers in the world right now. He simply isn’t and isn’t even close to that conversation. He has so far to go in his learning. For me he is too selfish and thinks he is the one that always has to unlock the opposition. I think the pressure from both the media and the fact that Villa operate a “give it to Grealish” tactic is stopping him from developping further. All I saw from him today was hogging the ball and slowing down play trying to draw fouls.
Foden on the otherhand plays with great players week in, week out and understands his position as part of a team. If he carries on playing for City then he could become our greatest ever product._____________________________

19th June 2021 at 7:14 am #180603What I can’t understand is these players perform week in and out in the best and toughest league in the world and also in the CL, why can’t they do it internationally on a regular basis? makes little sense.

19th June 2021 at 7:18 am #180604I don’t think any player had a decent game in both sides but particularly England, you hear someone saying this one or that one was the best player, I even heard the commentator say Mount was by far England’s best player even though he didn’t do much. I guess performance is in the eye of the beholder. There were some moments but skill wise there was very little by both teams.
