To be fair to the media they only report what happens Conte bought his downfall on himself and let’s be fair that was a very strange way for Mourinho to react to the media in a press conference after the Brighton defeat and it’s not the first time and Mourinho followed that up with an even crazier post match press conference after the Spurs defeat.
I don’t believe Mourinho is treated badly by the media Brian 99.9% of what the media report re Mourinho is down to Mourinho.
As for Mourinho not being a top Manager he’s won League titles in every country he’s ever managed in some multiple times and at every Club he’s been at bar United plus he’s won the Champions League at two different Club’s both of them unlikely CL winners. Mourinho’s not having a great time currently but he’s won two out of four trophies available to him in his first season at United and would have won the title last Season had there been no City.
Three games into the season is not the time to panic and I don’t think United will whether Mourinho is the right Manager for United going firwards is open to conjecture and I will be surprised if he’s still there this time next Season but if United offered him an extended contract in January then they should have backed him in the Summer transfer window too.
Pochettino would be a perfect fit for United but whether they can get him out of Spurs next Summer is another story. Zidane imo would be a massive risk.
Love him or loathe him though Mourinho does keep everyone talking.?

30th August 2018 at 5:37 am #25958Steady Eddy… as the Chairman of the Board of the Finnish ABU Society, I can safely say we don’t actually read these articles about Maureen. Look at the headlines, laugh, and generally comment “What a prat, couldn’t happen to a nicer club!”
I wouldn’t go as far as to say we’re “genuinely intrigued as to how his actions keep non-Utd fans interested”… except for perhaps the comedy value.
As for Hugo, don’t quite understand how that could be “intriguing” or how the press could cover it any more than they have. He’s Captain of this years World Cup winning side, went out with a few froggie mates, made a seriously bad error of judgment, got caught, and will be punished for it. Do you want the press to track down his primary school sweetheart or his mad Uncle Dave living in the Alps or something?

30th August 2018 at 5:57 am #25959Chucky, if you don’t read the Mourinho stuff, then you’re on my side. It’s boring, so should be pushed away from the priority position it always gets. Unfortunately, most DO read that kind of stuff and seem fascinated by it.
Again, I don’t know what makes you think I’m suggesting they should keep digging into the Lloris story. I’m not for a minute suggesting that. I’m saying that on the day the two things were reported, I struggle to fathom how Lloris doing something as dangerous as he did was not a bigger story than one of a manager just being as he always is. But people surprise me every day and this is no different. If it keeps people interested, the press will continue to fill the column inches with it, it’s as simple as that.
You don’t think it’s an intriguing story that the World Cup winning goalkeeper is caught drink driving? That’s surprising to me, but seemingly I’m in the minority and people are more intrigued by Mourinho being Mourinho, evident by the countless stories in the papers which readers seemingly can’t get enough of. Whether that’s that people can’t wait to see him fail or whatever the reason is, it can’t be denied that most can’t get enough of him.

30th August 2018 at 6:03 am #25960Also, I don’t for a minute have any sympathy for Mourinho. But, nor do I think he cares that he gets so much attention. I think he thrives on it. The thing I struggle with is simply that people continue to lap it up and read it.

30th August 2018 at 7:03 am #25961Don’t fink that many people are reading it (Maureen!)… and I do fink the Dipshit Hugo story was covered pretty well… obviously, all my “info” is via the interweb rather than actual “backpages”, but from my view point Hugo certainly wasn’t “ignored” or considered less newsworthy!

30th August 2018 at 7:55 am #25963Chucky @7:03: That’s the point right there. People ARE reading it. My point and I think the opening post were specifically referring to the papers being dominated by Mourinho stories plastered all over the back pages while the Lloris story was given a less prominent position, to say the least. The press do deem stories less newsworthy by how they prioritise their stories. I’m certainly not saying the story was ignored. They prioritise their stories based on what they know people will read more.
As for Monday, you got what you deserved. The first goal came as a bit of a sucker punch but we weren’t good enough after half time and didn’t know how to respond to the goal so no complaints from me. I’ve no problem accepting when we’re fairly beaten. We’re at our lowest point for years so it didn’t particularly come as a surprise to me.

30th August 2018 at 8:14 am #25964Reading what? Forgotten already…
How it was 0-0 at halftime I do not know… your lot probably deserved a lead (how we didn’t get that pen I’ll never know!), and I reckon most Spuds were pretty surprised when that first goal went in… the rest you know!
Glad I didn’t go to bed, that’s about all I DO know… 🙂

30th August 2018 at 8:35 am #25965The thing is no one had to read anything about the two Mourinho press conferences they came out of pre match and post match press conferences which were widely aired and people could make up their own minds about how Mourinho handled himself in them.
Personally I think this whole thing has been done to death now and not only on here but equally I don’t think there is an anti Mourinho/ anti United press.
Mourinho is probably the highest profile Manager in football and United if not the highest profile Club in football are one of the highest profile Club’s in football and when results go badly and Mourinho acts up that will get aired and reported on.
Chelsea aren’t at the same profile level as United but in Mourinho’s final season at Chelsea the media reported similarly on similar situations and had City lost to both Brighton and Spurs in consecutive games and Pep acted the way Mourinho did in his press conferences both of which were televised then the media would have been all over it too that’s their job.

31st August 2018 at 6:22 pm #26005Defiant Mourinho tells media: I’m one of the greatest managers in the world! This does not help Jose, keep it shut ffs.

31st August 2018 at 6:28 pm #26008Somebody should tell Jose when you’re in a hole just stop digging. Results are what matters most now not words. A good win over Burnley will be worth a month of press conferences stating his case.

2nd September 2018 at 12:25 pm #26062See? Not a day goes by without this lunatic opening his big gob and insulting someone! Why do you care if/what Klopp wins or not? You manage another team,a team that is playing fucking shite football, and instead of focusing on your team, you focus on the manager of another team.He is honestly becoming another AW,slowly!
