Mav, you can’t replace a whole team aging or not in one or two windows the quality of players or the money aren’t there to do it. Same with United you can’t replace a whole squad in one window you can’t get rid of the players and even United are struggling to get in the players they want at a price they are prepared to pay.
Barca have made a couple of very good signings spending almost £200m and I’m not convinced there won’t be other signings they also have a lot of very good young players coming through capable of having an impact this season..
All of the players you mentioned are capable of another season or three. But I don’t think there is a player in the world who can replace Messi when his time comes. Alba is only 30 players aren’t finished at 30.
Next season Barca will still be the team to beat in both La Liga and the CL and even if they don’t win the CL I suspect they will go deep again.

26th July 2019 at 6:09 pm #43995Stevo, to be fair all fans no matter the Club they support can be a tad fickle at times.
Bit ironic given how it all ended at Arsenal for Wenger and the part the Arsenal fans played in that given everything he gave the Club.
Chelsea fans stuck with Mourinho right up to the end in his last tenure despite where we found ourselves in the League.
“An emotional José Mourinho praised the vociferous show of support offered by Chelsea’s fans on Wednesday night, claiming “this is my moment” as his team overcame Dynamo Kyiv 2-1 to record a second win in nine matches and offer the ailing Premier League champions much-needed respite.
Willian curled in a glorious winning goal, the fifth free-kick from which he has registered this season, seven minutes from time to lance the tension and lift the home side above the visitors and into second place in Group G. Mourinho drew huge encouragement from his players’ reaction to being pegged back and was visibly emotional as his name was chanted regularly and ferociously by the majority inside Stamford Bridge.
“To have the whole stadium supporting me in a difficult time is an unforgettable moment in my career,” he said.”

26th July 2019 at 6:11 pm #439969-No it cant be done I agree, but they should have made some major changes.Messi cannot be replaced with the same quality, the only players currently are Salah and Mbappe.Alba is indeed closing on 31,but he too has been very shaky the last couple of years and just adds to the number of players that are past their best @ Barca. They might win the La Liga, but in the CL I have Liverpool,City and Spurs much, much better than Barca! United needed a massive, massive clearout for a few years now, with the likes of Young,Mata,Matic and Sachez past their best, the likes of Jones,Smalling,Darmian,Rojo simply rubbish, the likes of Shaw & Jlingz have actually regressed, and the likes of Instagramvirus & Martial not giving a rats ass about anything or anyone.Add to that an extremely unexperienced manager……….

26th July 2019 at 6:24 pm #43997Mav, United’s problem is the revolving managerial door after do many years of SAF. No surprise that the three best teams in the PL Dyche and Howe aside have the longest serving Managers.
I wouldn’t write Barca off yet in the CL they are 6/1 second favourites, they’ve bought we’ll have some good young players coming through and the Spanish transfer window doesn’t close until the 2/09 so they may not be finished yet with transfers assuming they can trade a few.

26th July 2019 at 6:47 pm #43999The way things are, managers will be forced to start integrating young players into the squad. It’s no longer a question of how many t’fer Windows, it’s more of an emphasis of a 5 year plan.
Those surplus, are often have their contracts run-down just so they can finally be rid of.

26th July 2019 at 7:25 pm #44000I think you’re right Nil trading in the transfer market is becoming more and more problematical firstly there’s a surfeit of talent, secondly the talent that there is available is primarily overpriced and it’s a problem getting some of these big transfers over the line and that’s before we get into the wages etc.
Clubs will never turn away from the transfers but there are signs that Clubs are beginning to turn more and more to their Academies.
It’s all going to be very interesting going forwards and we might be seeing a real change in the strategies of some of the big Clubs.

26th July 2019 at 8:51 pm #44001Nil-I really hope so matey, would love United to give youth a chance rather than have waste of space, past their best & rubbish players like Young,Rojo,Darmian,Jones,Smalling,Mata,Matic,Sanchez, etc. And even trying to buy ready made players in todays market is a joke, fees for average players have gone mental.I mean £80m for Maguire,£40m Dunk,£80m for Zaha? Madness!!!

27th July 2019 at 7:38 am #44006Wolves will do well to finish in the top 8. Only Everton possibly could challenge for a top 6 place but they still need to add to make that challenge.

27th July 2019 at 8:30 am #44007Atletico beat Real 7-3 last night with Costa scoring 4 before being sent off.
Can Zidane fix this which is a carry over from last season even with new signings without going to the market again and how can Madrid fund that without selling?

Pepe looks a good player but he still can’t play Centre Back or full back?

27th July 2019 at 2:18 pm #44017Mav, good Real summary?
“Regardless of whether it’s pre-season or not, that is a damaging result and one that the fans will certainly not accept, especially with expectations so high ahead of the new campaign as Zidane is expected to lead them back into contention for major trophies this season.
The French tactician and his captain were both keen to avoid the setback from escalating into a bigger issue, and insisted that they simply got their approach wrong as while they treated the encounter like a friendly, Atleti came out firing and beat them in all areas of the game.
“We have motivation and hunger,” Zidane is quoted as saying by AS. “Today, it was a friendly for us but not for Atlético. I am convinced that this team will do good things this season and we will see that quickly.”
Meanwhile, Ramos echoed his thoughts by adding: “We must continue working with the right attitude. They approached the game as if it were a final. They beat us in intensity and were very good in front of goal,” he said, as per Marca.
That could be interpreted as a subtle swipe at their rivals for taking the game so seriously, but Atleti will be delighted with the result regardless.
Real Madrid have just two more pre-season friendlies before the start of the La Liga campaign when they travel to Celta Vigo on August 17.
With that in mind, there isn’t long to find out if this was merely a pre-season malaise and whether or not they will be able to step it up and make a positive start to competitive action with the pressure building already after their summer spending spree saw the likes of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militao join the club.”

27th July 2019 at 2:41 pm #44023Because Pepe is 10x the player Zaha is,albeit unproved in the PL! If signed it would be an amazing coup for the Gunners, considering half of Europe is after him.Sounds like they also very close to signing Tierney as well,so £40m only to spend eh? Imagine had they said;we have loads of money to spend……

27th July 2019 at 2:45 pm #44027Mav, can’t think what he’s thinking about!
Pepe is a Chelsea fan from a boy and he said he would never play for anyone else but Chelsea in the PL.
Pinocchio!?
