Don’t shoot or trust the messenger but I had a text last night saying that terms have been agreed with Dybala . No way of clarifying that but I had to put the Adult Pampers on before bed !!!

26th July 2019 at 11:17 am #43969According to the Telegraph, the Blues are now the frontrunners to sign Zaha despite their transfer ban this summer.
Frank Lampard’s side would be able to offer a package that appears to benefit both parties.
The transfer ban would allow Zaha to stay at Palace for the 2019/20 season before making the move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea would then be able to meet Palace’s valuation of the player next summer after selling Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata for a combined fee of around Β£130m in recent weeks.
As transfer rumours go this one takes some beating.?

26th July 2019 at 12:44 pm #43973Stevo agree about Liverpool struggling at the start.
Mane only two weeks break in 12 months. Pre season isnβt great as few players missing and injured
No signings yet either. Few injuries to top 3 and Iβd be concerned
Going to be a few weeks before our 1st choice 11 will start.

26th July 2019 at 12:52 pm #43974Sean, thats pretty much my thoughts mate and the effort those players put in and played right up to the CL final to boot.
Trouble is as seen from last year you lost only 1 game all season and finished 2nd, id worry about dropping too many early points until the team is in a fit state to compete at that level again…unless city also drop a lot more points than last season it could see the gap widen, but its all ifs and maybes hopefully wont be the case and we have a similar contest to last year with a few others in the mix….that doesnt seem likley other than spuds again

26th July 2019 at 1:09 pm #43975AnonymousIt’s an interesting summer spending spree.. IE just not much money moving yet and not many players moving imo… All very dull. Summer signings that caught my eye, Tielemans to Leicester, think he’s going to be a great addition to the league, he shit all over it from January and the West ham Striker Haller. Think he’ll grab goals.
My team Chelsea will struggle this year and I wont be surprised if we finish outside the top ten. Just think the formation were setting up with through pre-season has been worked out and isnt as effective as it once was. Lampard will have to earn his corn and probably have a number of formations and tactics worked out. Reading comments on other sites, it just appears as thought Chelsea fans are living in cloud cuckoo land regarding the youth integration, thinking it is a panacea for the boards shortcomings over the last few manager appointments.
More generally, there appears to be a move away from signing players to actually using academy’s. United have a very interesting crop coming through, Chelsea will have to use youth and city will go and spend where they need to. Liverpool have a very strong first team, Spurs need another striker, and I think more teams will take more points off each other this season reducing the gaps between 12 and 4th spot so its far more likely an everton or wolves might creep up into a CL place.
All in all, Think its going to be a very tight season at the top.

26th July 2019 at 1:29 pm #43977442 see my link above about how quiet this window is currently for the PL clubs, its not just chelsea looking to youth and its not like you lot have much choice at present anyway so you may as well after all you had so many on the books it only makes sense
also Pepe has gone….so surprised that more where not in for him from all over europe, perfect fit for any top 6 team IMHO

26th July 2019 at 1:57 pm #43978AnonymousStevo, wrote the post then saw your link… doh… The money is making a difference isnt it. Clubs no longer need to sell.. They dont even need supporters in the stadiums anymore so…
One of the down sides to all this is that clubs are slowly becoming profit makers… Which means they’ll trade for more money when the petrochemical owners and business groups like the ones running anfield sell up. Which probably means that the FA really do need to start looking seriously into money laundering in football.
Anyhow… Im rather looking forward to the new season and if your willing to take a bet Stevo… Which moaning minis will hound their manager out first, Chelsea or Arsenal?

26th July 2019 at 2:09 pm #43979it certainly is making a huge difference, years gone by Leicester would have had their pants pulled down and lost HM, thye can shrug it off and keep unless for a world record fee.
its also unsustainable as are the wages…so maybe this little “reset” wether forced or by choice and using more of pool of home grown talent isnt such a bad thing.
also seem to be far fewer real genuine “stars” these days, the old breed are dying out and the new breed are a pale shadow
hmm thats a tricky one mate and im up for a friendly bet.
First you have my lot known for moaning during Arsenal Fan TV and AW last years, but on the whole we a re pretty accepting bunch and i dont think any of us blame Emery more the board and lack of support and coheshive plan to competeFL is loved but then chelsea fans have also shown to be fickle and far more vocal so if things go badly maybe they will hound him?
i think both will be safe personally but Ole needs to be careful π

26th July 2019 at 2:24 pm #43980Anonymousstevo, Depends on how United fans view the season. Think they need a center half who can stay fit, was a shame to see Bailly crease up as hes just been desperately unlucky.
Frank Lampard has said everything right since signing. I really hope it works out for him, but I have a sneaky suspicion he’s going to rebuild a side and someone else will come in and spend the cash on the team. Chelsea managers dont last more than 18 months.

26th July 2019 at 2:48 pm #43981442, some good points well made.
A couple of points from me I don’t think there are 9 better squads than Chelsea’s in the top 10 City, Liverpool and Spurs apart I think the United,Arsenal and Chelsea squads currently aren’t too far apart albeit they’ve all got different strengths and weaknesses but I agree we should take nothing for granted.
I also agree that Chelsea supporters shouldn’t expect too much this season top 6/top 10 imo and anything else is a bonus we still haven’t solved the goalscorer problem yet without Abraham comes through and we’ve lost Hazard who is a massive miss although Pulisic will offer us something.
With regards tactics I don’t think Frank will be rigid with his tactics in the same way Sarri was and he will adapt the tactics to the opposition and the situation as he did at Derby and as we saw in some of the pre season games. Personally I think it’s important that we have more than one way to play to suit the different circumstances.
I’m sure we will see some cyber warriors attacking Frank if it doesn’t go quite right during the season as I’m sure it won’t at times this season but I would be amazed if the match going fans go anywhere near to turning on Frank.
I think the vast majority of Chelsea fans are realistic about this season certainly the majority on the Chelsea site are and outside of that Chelsea friends of mine there’s been a very positive reaction to the appointment of Frank which though probably too early was a good one imo given all the circumstances we faced.
I think Chelsea fans are right to expect our very best young players to get a real chance in the first team and it’s pleasing to see that beginning to happen now with all of Christensen, Loftus Cheek and Hudson Odoi making their cases last season.
I think you’re right I don’t think we’ll see a plethora of young players in the Chelsea squad and team this season the most likely are the three above plus Abraham, Mount and Reece James in the squad Reece James who I saw playing for Wigan last season looks capable of the step up to the first Squad now once fit to me.
And let’s not forget you win nowt with kids.?
I think the most important thing about Frank’s appointment is who he bought with him in Jody Morris who has managed all of our best young players to domestic and European success as well as Joe Edwards all three are supplemented by Eddie Newton who was responsible for the the loan players and has been around the Club for a long time including our CL/FA Cup winning season and Chris Jones who has been around the Chelsea Academy and Reserves squads with the exception of last season at Derby since 2006.
Final word on Frank our best young players are now signing long term contracts at Chelsea and allegedly given all the reports Hudson Odoi is about to join them. I’m not sure that would have happened had we not appointed Frank and I think Hudson Odoi was probably a gonner had Sarri stayed on.
Important we get Kante, Reece James, Rudiger and Hudson Odoi back fit and playing asap. Cheers 999

26th July 2019 at 3:10 pm #43983“Barcelona have rescinded the contract of general manager Pep Segura, the Catalan club announced on Friday.
Segura’s role has been under scrutiny for some time and Barca’s board met to discuss his position, along with that of coach Ernesto Valverde, at the end of last season.
“FC Barcelona and Josep Segura have reached an agreement to rescind his contract with the club,” the Blaugrana said on their website on Friday.
The general manager is seen as the man ultimately responsible for mistakes and inconsistencies in the planning of the squad and his exit means sporting director Eric Abidal will be given more power at Camp Nou.
Abidal is in charge of player recruitment for Barcelona’s first team and also at Barca B and Standard Sport understands Segura will not be replaced.
Barca announced the return of former striker Patrick Kluivert to the club on Thursday, with the Dutchman appointed as director of youth football.
“I am very happy to be back home and looking forward to this new era, with the challenge of keeping Barca among the top teams in the world,β he said.
βI grew up at the Ajax academy, which is very similar to La Masia, and I think I can do a lot for the development of young Barca players.”
Evening Standard 26/07.
Interesting change of strategy from Barca.

26th July 2019 at 3:33 pm #439849-I agree with Buffy re Barca, they needed a rebuild, with players like Pique,Busquets,Alba,Rakitic,Suarez and Messi well past their best. All of them will be an year older[obviously],and bar De Jong havent signed any youngsters to replace the oldies.Griezmann is closing on 29,so in footballing terms he too is not a spring chicken!

26th July 2019 at 3:39 pm #43985Ye very true STevo, we also have the world championship in December but Iβm happy about that as itβs a chance of another trophy. We have never won it.
We really risk some players being burned out. Loads of games. Quite concerned about us as we just wonβt be fresh
Still think Chelsea have a more then capable squad to challenge for top 4.

26th July 2019 at 3:48 pm #43986442-Whilst I agree that Chelsea will struggle to make top4,to say they could finish outside top 10 is a bit silly. As things stand,I fully expect Everton,Lesta and Wolves to challenge for top6.

26th July 2019 at 3:59 pm #43987Buffy-I agree re transfer window in the PL so far.Reading that teams from La Liga have spent £1bn so far.You talk about Arse not having money, wish United had the budget of either AV or the Foxes, and even the Magpies are spending ££££.

26th July 2019 at 4:04 pm #43990Lesta are my favourites to crash the Top 6 if I had to pick one, the few times I saw them after Brent took over they really looked mustard, absolutely ketching up!
I wouldn’t worry about Wee Frankie either, Ossie and Glenda had a crack in the Spud hot seat and we still love ’em both despite covering themselves in custard. It might work (my wedge is on it won’t) but he won’t lose any love over there… which is good as he don’t have any anywhere else!! π

26th July 2019 at 4:20 pm #43991Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Henry, Lewandowski, Robben, Aguero, Silva, Busquets. Just some of the unbelievable talents Pep has worked with. Yet, he’s named Foden as the most talented player he’s ever seen. If that’s the case, why doesn’t Pep trust him in big games? He’s 19 now so it’s a crucial season for his development. Will be really interesting to see if Pep backs up that comment by picking him for the big games.

26th July 2019 at 5:34 pm #43993AnonymousMaverick… Here what your saying… I just think when we hit a wobble, it has some sort of effect on the squad. I also think our defence is not as good as it was, third best last season, and im not convinced Alonso is up to playing in a back four, he was relegated with Sunderland there… leaving us Palmeri, who im not overly convinced about either over 60 odd games. Who pairs up with Luiz? Will we see him take on the responsibility of being a senior pro or will we see more petulance. Its either Zouma or Christiensen while Rudiger comes back from a serious injury. Zappacosta is bang average going forward and defending imo and Dave cant be relied upon to dig us out on both flanks… That’s why I think were going to struggle this year.
Our side needs fresh legs… youth will provide that… but… who knows. Shaping up to be a very interesting season all things considered.
