26th July 2019 at 5:46 am #43945Bayern have a fair bit of replacing to do. I expect more to come regarding the Sane saga, maybe also Werner although they could wait a year for Lewandowski to finish his time and get him for free. Probably the biggest young talent in Germany, maybe even Europe for his position, Havertz who looks nailed on to move to Bayern next season.

26th July 2019 at 6:35 am #439462 signings for us now confirmed with Saliba (CB) joining next year and Cabellos on loan for a year, happy with that and martinez so far…still more to do tho…
what about AV?? signed TEN players and going for number 11 …who says you cant replace an entire team in one window!

26th July 2019 at 6:56 am #43947Ed, I don’t disagree that United need a few more signings and I think at least a couple will happen between now and the end of the transfer window, but that aside and EL apart which is always a bit of a test in respect of the PL because of the Thursday/Sunday games.
But even given the above United are definite top 4 challengers imo they only finished outside the top 4 last season because they had an end of season collapse they are having a very good pre season have some bright young Academy players to add to the squad and coupled with a couple of signings between now and the end of the window I’m sure they are going to challenge for a top 4 place place and if all else fails they are perfectly capable of winning the EL again which they are sure to be one of the favourites for.
Rightly or wrongly though they remain my favourites for the 4th place behind City,Liverpool and Spurs.
Getting rid of some of the deadwood remains a bit of a problem though and it will be interesting to see Ole’s final squad and who doesn’t make it.
Ed W just needs to get his finger out of his Arsenal and get the signings over the line.? Cheers 999

Stevo, I hope Villa stay up but Fulham tried the same strategy and trying to gel so many new players in the PL following promotion took them down.

26th July 2019 at 7:11 am #43951i know its madness, i know they lost some key loan players (especially goals with your fella) but what does that say to the team that won promotion when they go buy an entire new 11?!
obviously it could just go either way, more likely the fulham route than the other way but who knows might be just what they need….
just watched video footage of the robbery attempt on Ozil and Kolasinac, Kol was not fucking around and proper squares up to the knife wielding fools!
dodgy situation tho, escaped in a car but were chased by them on a moped…

26th July 2019 at 7:28 am #43953Nine, it’s a big ask for Utd to get back into the top 4. We could have 5 or so new players to integrate into the side by the time the window is closed. Add to that the fact we could finish the window having moved out Lukaku, Hererra and Pogba, or at least some combination of those. Putting aside the EL distraction as well as the fact we were terrible last season after the initial period under Ole, that’s just too many changes to a side to expect them to hit the ground running straight away.
I think Chelsea will have a bit of the Spurs effect from last season where no incomings actually meant they entered the season fully aware of their best side. The bookies have us and Chelsea neck and neck as favourites for fourth (with Arsenal marginally behind) and I think that’s probably about right. Without doubt, Cheslea will get off to a flyer due to the inevitable new manager bounce. Lampard’s legendary status at the club may just carry them through their first dip after the initial honeymoon period.
It hurts to say it but I genuinely think we’ll be lagging behind the rest as soon as Christmas. If I was a betting man, I’d put some money on Ole being gone by Christmas too. The fact he is the bookies’ favourite to be sacked first suggests I’m not the only one either. I hope I’m wrong. All that said, if Ole’s legacy is that he’s introduced a number of exciting young players to the side for the next man to take to the next level then he’s at least reinstated some of the club’s proud traditions and put some foundations in place for a more experienced coach.

26th July 2019 at 7:33 am #43954Stevo, whilst you wouldn’t want to tangle with Kolasinac was he brave or foolhardy to take on knife wielding robbers?
On the AV situation I think whoever comes up needs a stronger squad to cope with the PL and Villa have lost Tammy and his goals so he needed replacing but you would hope that the team playing in the PL is predominantly the team that took them up at least at the start of the campaign.
Dean Smith seems to be a good Manager though and they’ve probably got the best chance of staying up of the three promoted Clubs but all of them will probably be favourites for the drop along with Newcastle.

26th July 2019 at 7:49 am #43955Difficult to disagree with any of that Ed but I do think you will challenge for a top 4 place.
Re Chelsea I would happily settle for a EL place right now given all the circumstances surrounding Chelsea and I see this season as very much a foundation laying season for Frank and I won’t judge him until next season after he’s had a Summer transfer market to plug the gaps he identifies this season.
Scoring goals still remains our problem I’m hoping that Tammy might be the answer but if he isn’t and without Hazard even top 6 may be optimistic.
On the plus side the Club seems a much happier place since Frank’s appointment and our best young players are buying into it all even seemingly Hudson Odoi who looked a definite gonner under Sarri and Pulisic looks interesting.
I think the PL top to bottom is going to be very exciting this season with lots of unanswered questions and I’m looking forward to it starting. Cheers 999

26th July 2019 at 8:04 am #43956Still think the Goonies are favorites for 4th, based on the manager’s experience. Right now, can’t really tell much difference in the squads, but the guy in the dug-out? Somebody stands heads and shoulders above the other two with regards to experience etc…

26th July 2019 at 8:14 am #43957Yeah really good point Chucky. He’s also had a year to get to know his side. Multiple winner of trophies vs a manager who relegated Cardiff and managed in Norway and a manager who had a half-decent season at Championship Derby. Arsenal should really be better placed than the other 2 for that final top 4 spot. Either way, I think Spurs can rest easily for a season or two.

26th July 2019 at 8:24 am #43958I agree with that too Chucky 4th place should be Arsenal’s to lose but for me their defence still remains a worry last season Arsenal conceded 51 goals far more than any of their PL rivals bar United which is also a worry but United seem to be trying to do something about it whilst Arsenal still haven’t strengthened their defence and seem more interested in signing offensive players whilst Koschielny is a gonner.
If Arsenal strengthen their back 4 between now and the close of the window they should comfortably make the top 4 if not?????

26th July 2019 at 8:30 am #43959if if if with little to sign of any defenders coming in!! unless there is significant players coming in defence or Emery has a tactical change and focuses on defence we wont be anywhere near fourth….
AV have twice the budget we do!

26th July 2019 at 8:34 am #43960Utd look
Sharp in pre-season. They have had all their players available for pre-seasonI fancy them for top 4 and I fancy them to bring a few more players in but whatβs the delay?
Leicester want 80m so just pay it. Looks like Pepe is going to Napoli. Utd should be in for him. Maguire is some btw ?
Window closes in 13 days.
Arsenal just cannot defend. They need two centre backs lads. Tierney would be a very good buy. They need a right full

26th July 2019 at 8:46 am #43961i also have a feeling liverpool may actually struggle this year in the PL, none of there star players have had much if any rest in the summer and fatigue and injuries could see them get off to a slow start….i may be wrong but its a feeling i have…..
all our clubs still need players in with very little time remaining, this window has been very poor in general for the PL clubs IMHO
same could be said of clubs like Bayern and Barca too…only RM really seem to have made significant changes and additions…
i was expecting much more from this window all over than we have so far, its very odd

26th July 2019 at 8:50 am #43962Each of the three have better aspects than the others…
Goonies probably have the best “attacking” unit but the worst defence….
UnYooUtd are probably the most overall balanced side, some decent players at both ends of the pitch….
Chelski I think are most solid at the back but will miss Micky Hazard up top (a lot of fluff but no trousers!) and don’t have a Boomerang or Lucazade to split the onion bagOh, Swed-Ed, who cares about the teams behind us, it’s those two buggers in front of us who should be worried!! π
