Sean, if CHO doesn’t sign a new contract under Frank, Jody and Joe Edwards when the last two have Coached him from him being a young kid after Frank has talked to him then it will be a choice between taking the best fee or hanging on to him until the Summer and letting it go to tribunal who will presumably take into account Bayern’s offers too.

14th July 2019 at 2:40 pm #43364Mav, 80 mill mate, according to the Metro. Congrats if this goes through.
I’d rather he went to you guys then Man City. You need to re-build the defence around De-Gea and Maguire.

14th July 2019 at 2:41 pm #43365Manchester Untied have agreed to pay Β£60million up front with Β£20m in add-ons. According to the Express and others?

14th July 2019 at 2:43 pm #43366If the Express and others have got it right it’s a face saver for both Club’s.
Can’t understand City they need a Centre back and Maguire is the best available at that money.

14th July 2019 at 2:49 pm #43368Hard to gauge the “and addons bit”. Β£60mil up front is probably about right in today’s market. If the add ons are for things like winning trophies, then it’s reasonable. If it’s for things like number of appearances, then it’s just another way of saying it’s an additional Β£20mil in installments.

14th July 2019 at 2:57 pm #43369Re Lukaku:
“United are adamant they will only accept a full cash payment in excess of the Β£75m they paid for Lukaku two years ago, despite Inter hoping to structure a deal involving a loan or players in exchange.” Evening Standard today. ???

14th July 2019 at 3:22 pm #43371Heβs a good player. Is he even in top 5 centre backs in the league?
No on my opinion but utd need someone like him. Heβs very good on the ball. Brilliant in the air but heβs very slow on the turn. Itβs a good signing for utd and I donβt think thereβs many other centre backs they could have gone for

14th July 2019 at 3:30 pm #43372All about supply and demand.
United need a quality Centre Back and are prepared to pay what it takes.
City’s need one too although their need isn’t quite as desperate as United’s and seemingly they weren’t prepared to pay the price to get Maguire.
As Sean rightly says how many other suitable Centre Backs are there. Strange though that United are granting Ole all the requests Jose made this time last year.?

14th July 2019 at 4:07 pm #43373Could the same of Maguire not be said of Lukaku when Man Utd bought him? Premier league proven, reasonable/good attributes but not top, top level. Not saying he wonβt help Man Utd, but for me, Man Utd are still not buying Man Utd players.

14th July 2019 at 4:26 pm #43374But who are utd players Mikus?
Big names have not been a success. Massive nabes, top top players like Pogba, Sanchez, di Maria, Falco etc etc
They have also gone down the proven pl path. Schnderlin, lakuku, Shaw etc. players are just not performing when they join utd for whatever reason.
They are now buying good young up and coming players and their transfer strategy is changing. Itβs going to be interesting to see how it all pans out.

14th July 2019 at 4:28 pm #43375Mikus,I think you could say that about Lukaku because historically United liked to play an attacking game and they had the players to do that Ronaldo, RVN, Giggs, Scholes etc but I don’t think it’s quite the same with Maguire.
United needed a good quality Centre Back and that’s what they are buying it’s not going to effect the way United like to play the United way attack wise which defines a United player and currently I don’t think overall they have the players to play like that anyway. And realistically what were the alternatives to Maguire very very few if any really available.
Good signing by United imo and one that can help propel them towards a top 4 place .

14th July 2019 at 4:36 pm #43378Pogba, Sanchez, Falcao, etc were never Man Utd signings for me: they were somewhat desperate signings almost aimed more to make a statement more than anything. You look back under Fergie, and whilst they made the odd poor signing, you look at players like Rooney, Ferdinand, Vidic, Tevez, De Gea, Keane, Van Nistelrooy, Evra, etc. Those are Man Utd players and even if they looked short some seasons, they went through quite a few summers without spending much – better to wait for the right person and develop what you have – much as Klopp has done with Liverpool – he could have bought when we were short but he didnβt – he waited to buy the likes of Mane, Salah, Alisson, Fabinho, Van Dyke, etc. And it all paid off when it came together.

14th July 2019 at 4:52 pm #43380Mikus, United desperately needed a dominant Centre Back as I said very very few options available other than Maguire. Good signing by United imo albeit a bit overpriced.

14th July 2019 at 4:56 pm #43383That’s the thing. Who else is at this top level we keep hearing about who Utd could have realistically got? De Ligt wouldn’t come to us for EL. Varane the same. Van Dijk is obviously a no-go. Who else is much better than Maguire and gettable?

60m is fine. Heβs a better player then stones who went for 50m
